Try a shopska salad, one of the worlds greatest dishes. Thank you Mr Giant for your presentation. A true gentleman with an open mind. A lesson for us all.

    This was an interesting video to watch, To answer your question at 12:55 - yes, most Balkan counties still hold grudges and prejudices against each other. Especially against Turkiye, as they are what remained of the Ottoman Turkic Empire, that conquered and subjugated much of the region for centuries. The Balkans are called the powder keg of Europe for a reason, and there are many reasons we remain segregated nationally to this day.

    When focusing on battles and territory expansions, all these videos miss the most significant facts. During the reign of Simeon, the Great, the Bulgarian church received the rank of Patriarchate. Simeon completed his father's plan. In the 9th and 10th centuries, the new center of Christianity besides Rome and Constantinople arose Preslav. Simeon fought those battles for recognition of the Church and language. He did not just receive the title of Emperor. There were 2 languages used in preaching Latin and Greek throughout Europe. After Simeon, it was Old Bulgarian also known as Church Slavonic and Cyrillic script. Simeon did not want to be dependent on Rome or Constantinople. It spread from Simeons Bulgaria and even reached Russia. Bible was translated into Bulgarian. First Bulgarian books were written. For England and Germany which happened 600 years later, they used Latin. Pope recognized a new language to be used. It is so superficial to view Simeon (and all his dynasty, his father started the cultural revolution) as the only warrior. Boris blinded Rasate-Vladimir by Byzantian tradition (they did with many) .Bolgarian tradition was to kill him. Old Bulgarian become the base of the creation of the Russian language. They hate to recognize, that their language comes from Bulgaria. It is like Jamaikian to pretend English was created in the Caribbean. It was used in the Church and administration of many principalities. It is called the Golden age not because of the territory but because of book writing and translation. Golden because creation of culture.

They cut noses and castrated as well. According to Christian ByzantiansEmperor had to be whole with no physical defects.I do not know why narrator say ,,Bulgaian tradition'' ?!! Only Vladimir was blinded otherwise they killed the pretender.

    Precisely. Religion at that time was also a political play. Especially since there were bigger powers then Bulgaria and religion was both something to be used as making allies, make peace treaties, or see common enemies. Of course, religion has it own side, but it was 100% used for political means and also forging or breaking alliances, among other uses that are beyond the religion itself.

    4:06 Yes, it sounds strange, but this is Boris's plan to unite the Slavs and Bulgars into one nation, Bulgarians. Both peoples were pagans, but with different gods, the Slavs with the supreme god Svarog, and the Bulgars with the god Tengri whom they called Tangra. The two different religions, as well as the different way of life, did not allow the two different groups of people to become one nation. The Slavs were the majority of the population and the Bulgars the ruling elite, which also did not help the unification of the two groups into one nation. With the adoption of Christianity, the two groups actually became the same, in terms of religion, moral values and lifestyle. But, of course, Boris will punish his son according to the old Bulgar laws, firstly, because he lived by these laws all his life, secondly, his son himself wanted to return these beliefs and laws, It is written in the chronicles that Boris told his son "You want to bring back the old beliefs, so I will judge you according to the old laws", so I think it is fair enough. Because of his decision, we Bulgarians now exist as a Slavic-speaking people with a not-so-Slavic appearance...

    Nikov is the first Bulgarian historian to pay special attention to, and attri bute great significance to, the Turkic components in the Bulgarian ethnogen esis (i.e., after the Bulgars) and among the ruling aristocracy. He elaborated on the issue of the "Turkic element's" influence upon Bulgarian history in a 1928 unpublished manuscript (delivered as a public lecture). Nikov began with the following policy-setting statement:
    There is no period in our history on which the Turkic element did not exert its strongest influence and did not leave the deepest traces in the development of our people. [...] None of the Balkan peoples has experi enced the Turkic influence so strongly as our people,
    The Turkic pressure began from Central Asia and had two directions to the northwest through southern Russia, and to the southwest through Persia and Asia Minor. The Bulgarian state was founded due to one of the Turkic peoples, the Bulgars, who themselves joined a number of Turkic tribal alliances (of Huns, Kutrigurs, Utigurs, Avars, and Khazars). During Byzantine rule, the Turkic Pechenegs and Uz came from the north; many of them crossed the Danube and were assimilated by the Bulgarian people. Then came the Cumans, without whose decisive help the uprising of Asenevtsi would hardly have succeeded. Thus, just as the First Bulgarian Kingdom was founded with the help of the Turkic Bulgars, the Second Kingdom was founded with "the decisive collabora tion of the Turkic Cumans."129 Not only did Cumans settle south of the Danube and become assimilated and absorbed by the Slavic-Bulgarian people, but they were also of great significance politically in the Second Kingdom, whose dynas ties all had Cuman blood in them. There were also many Bulgarian boyars of Cuman origin, including Balic in Dobrudzha. It could even be said that the Cumans acquired a dominant position in the political life of the state. 130 There followed the influence of the Mongol Tartars, who even supplied one Bulgarian king, Chaka. But of greatest importance were the Ottoman and Seljuk Turks, who conquered the Balkans from Asia Minor. Concerning the Cumans, Nikov considers the "transfusion of blood" from Turkic "elements" an asset, a means of rejuvenating and strengthening the "race" and enhancing the vitality of the Bulgarian people (in contrast with the conquering Turks).

      Again act as some toxic presenter of anything "concerning" turkic stuff. You aren't correct to glorify the presence of turkic anywhere here as the fact that it wasn't purely turkic might have made it what it is. Again Bulgaria was created on the "union of bulgars and the seven slavic tribes" it was never meant to be turkic only. It makes no sense than to look stupid. Calm down you pride of turkic and chill for a moment. You could have written this for any turkish history or a still very turkic nation but no, you deal with Bulgaria of all places.

      Buzz off.Turkish nation and language was created by decree of Cemal Ataturk 1928.,, On 1 November 1928, the new Turkish alphabet was introduced by the Language Commission at the initiative of Atatürk, replacing the previously used Perso-Arabic script. The Language Commission proposed a five-year transition period; Atatürk saw this as far too long and reduced it to three months.''

      You definitely get paid to write comments under every single video about Bulgaria. What do other people care if the early Bulgars were of Turkic origin, for your information in the DNA of Bulgarians only 2% is from East Asia. And the Mongols had a little impact on Bulgaria and only for a few years. The one you mention Chaka, was brother in law of the Bulgarian tzar Theodore, helping him to gain the throne and was killed little after that and it is not certain whether he reigned as Emperor of Bulgaria or simply acted as the overlord of Theodore.

    Also the reaosn so many conflicts are in the balknas is because usually we look at our naibours as lets say cousins mostly we have simular languages we have sheared history but the problem is that when some of them dont recognize what the others have done for them we are very proud and we take it as a very serous insult also for example Bulgaria views Serbia usually as cousin like country and people however they have always everytime they had the chance they stabed Bulgaria in the back and you know am if i can say it metaforically the knife cuts deepest when its from the family or from the closest friends and we at the Balkans tend to remember those thing and its hard to wash that if you nkow what i mean.

  • @Tatkovi-px7mx
    @Tatkovi-px7mx ปีที่แล้ว

    Just to let you know something First of all Slav or Slavic is a term for people speaking simular lagnauges there is almost nothing related to the dna Second It was not a union beatween Bulgars and Slavs what history and dna etc has shown us toady is that actually the Bulgariarns were many if not even more then the slavs in the region and todays Bulgarians are the same as the Bulgarians before thats what a study by Svetoslav Samov a dna sciantist backed up from Harvard have found out that todays Bulgarians have 70 or even 80 procent the same DNA as the Bulgarians from the time of Tsar Simeon the Great so Bulgarians are Bulgarians sure there is alway a little drop of slavic in this region however it doesnt matter if the magority is in this case Bulgarian. Love the reaction by the way there are just some things that this video misses or gets wrong a little bit and Bulgaria is a super power since it was established in 681 by Khan Asparuh it defieted the Byzantium Empire or what it is actually is ROME Also Simeon was never a Prince he was Tsar which means Emperor they got that wrong as well. good luck bro and have fun with the videos keep it up.

      Ok, professor, the Bulgarian state today is made up of 6 million Bulgarians (South Slavs), 350 thousand Bulgarian Turks (who also have a South Slavic element, because they were Turkified during the Ottoman rule.) and the Bulgarian Roma (who are of Indian origin). The Southern Slavs from the Bulgarian group are the closest ethnically to the Eastern Slavs in Russia, foreigners regularly call me a Russian. And Hollywood uses many Bulgarians to play Russian roles. The Serbs and Croats are a mixture of Slavs from the Bulgarian group and Austrians. The policy of emancipation of Bulgaria from the Slavs because of Russia has no place in science. I am a Bulgarian Slav, I am not a racist, but it is a fact that Bulgarians and Roma have nothing in common genetically, and most Roma today have mixed marriages with Bulgarian Slavs, but they retain their Indian way of life which it's like in india not europe.Azis claims everywhere that he is Bulgarian, but watch the interview with Lora Krumova, he says that he has Greek, Turkish and Bulgarian Slavic blood, he even jokes that his grandmother was going to name him Svetoslav, but his father didn't allow it, can you imagine now we would we have a very popular black Slav (which everyone hates or everyone loves depending on whether you love kitsch for no other reason).
