Another A+. One of the best restorations I’ve seen. Those old Yamaha’s are cheap & can be fast for cheap. The 95 SeaDoo spx I restored sold in 3 days, thanks for your help. So, now I’m looking for an early year GP1300R two stroke. I’ll semd you pictures when I finish it!
Steve Vigus yep. Used to be able to buy those for $500 all day long. Not anymore, unless they are rusted out hulks. Maybe one day when I have more time and garage space...
Thanks! If the rain lets up this evening I'm pressing on with the project. If not, there's going to be a gargage cleaning project in my short term future.
One More question for you. Either of your seadoos have gummy steering pad or grab handle? Have you found a remedy for that? All the forums say theres no bringing um back.
At 1:48 into the video you say intake manifold, but actually you have the exhaust manifold in your hand. Just letting you know. I have wrenched on jet skis and motorcycles for over 20 years. I give you a thumbs up for trying to repair things yourself instead of bringing it to a shop. People who buy toys but choose not to work on them is never a good thing. Everyone should at least get their hands dirty a little bit and try to understand how things work....(mechanic wise). Good luck with your project. By the way, Yamahas are the best watercraft when it comes to being reliable. Kawasaki would be 2nd, then Sea Doo..
Great vid! Waiting for the next installment. I’m a seadoo man but something about the Yamaha’s exhaust note that sounds great! Make sure to get a good sound bit of that Yami engine music!!!
Steve I love the video Sooo much that you inspired me to Do a Plasti Dip Jet Ski Transformation Myself. I really enjoyed doing it and I hope you see this comment and love my 1996 Plasti Dipped Yamaha Wave Runner. Thanks Mark San Antonio Texas. Just finished 2 days ago. Search you tube for I Transformed a Jet Ski into a Bumble Bee Thanks I really hope you enjoy my video as much as I loved yours. THanks
Better to start with engine to ensure it runs, before going into the cosmetic. WD-40 along with heat gun helps take stickers off. EZ Off oven cleaner helps bring back the dull plastics, then pressure wash.
Xylol (Xylene). It's probably overkill but I had some sitting around and it makes quick work of the glue without affecting the gel coat. Also removes plasti-dip easily.
Amazing Editing! I feel like I'm watching some young annoying SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON TH-camr's video, but this one is way better and so much more entertaining. Keep up the great work Steve!
Actually, I used some kind of general soap for pressure washing. We recently moved and it was the first thing that I could find in the pile of boxes. Works fine.
Just a FYI if you ever do this type thing again! a sos soap pad will clean the plastic 10 times easier and faster. FYI #2 you can buy a decal eraser from parts store that goes in drill will remove decals right before your very eyes and not harm the finish. Number 3 Ive changed many starters without pulling exhaust on 700 and 760's but then again Ive been a pwc mechanic sense 1988.
For black plastic, running a light heat gun over it will bring out the oil in the plastic and restore the original black. I’m not sure if it works on colored trims, but scraping off a layer would be last resort for me.
Orignially rated at 63 hp, 320 lbs. Its handling is docile compared to the old SeaDoo 2 seaters but I aapreciate the depandability of the Yamaha. And the things are dirt cheap to buy now.
Yamaha's do not have wear rings the only brand that has a wear ring that is removable is a Seadoo you have to check your impeller and sometimes you will luck out and find a wearing that you can cram in there but most times to do it right you just need a new jet pump and once you change the color and paint a jet ski the value is gone
4 years later, still helping me and interesting to watch!

And what’s up with that one dislike???
Enjoyed your videos. Found you while trying to bring an old Sea Doo back to life. I’m also in VA. This rain just won’t let up.
Another week of it on the way too. BTW, is that your microbus? It looks great! Any chance we could get together and feature it in a video?
Steve Vigus not mine, unfortunately.
Just keepiong your eye on the prize, right? Looks like a nice one.
Steve Vigus yep. Used to be able to buy those for $500 all day long. Not anymore, unless they are rusted out hulks. Maybe one day when I have more time and garage space...
Great channel. I have 1995 Wave Raider 1100 I'm about to start renovating, so these videos are extremely helpful!
Too cool! Upload your reno result and we can see what it's like to have the fast version of this classic ski.
I don't even own a jet ski but these videos are so entertaining for some reason. Nice editing
Steve! Keep them coming man, love these videos!
Argh, that plastic scraping is like nails on a chalkboard for me lol. Great video again, cant wait to see it finished.
Thanks! If the rain lets up this evening I'm pressing on with the project. If not, there's going to be a gargage cleaning project in my short term future.

jlsdsp I would like to know too
Take heat gun to faded plastic on ski and it brings color back out like new try it out it’s great just like you
I used to have the same ski! Loved that thing!
This motivates me to restore my 1996 wave runner
Go for it! Even if you just remove the faded graphics, paint the trim pieces and polish the gel coat it makes a big difference.
I have this exact ski I'm trying to get back into shape. Great video
Hello i am from the nederlands i have these video look more times i like it tank you!
Hey Steve! I was searching Yamaha Wave Raider and came across your video. Great video! Keep them coming!

Great to hear. Are you going to keep it purple or will you be getting crazy?
Hey Steve, You can pick up my jet ski next. Great job.
Great idea! We could do a hot wings and hot Wave Blaster episode.
Keep up the good work man !!!!
Looking good sir and I'm about to watch part 2 lol

That thing is a beast! It's big enought to travel from island to island, right?
Steve Vigus Haha maybe so
As always GREAT video.
Great vid! Waiting for the next installment. I’m a seadoo man but something about the Yamaha’s exhaust note that sounds great! Make sure to get a good sound bit of that Yami engine music!!!
Cool I wouldve never thought of that
I’m not sure if I told you but fast orange with pumice will bring the smooth surface back and the color is great.
Gotta give that a try on the next project. Thanks.
Great it’s rly helping me
You ara amazing!! Lengths from brasil.
Thanks Leonardo!
Sold my wave raider for the sxr. I miss it!!
RIP Raider.
Nice video edition, I love this

Amazing that’s all I can say

At 3:07 what liquid did you use to remove the glue residue
Xylol (Xylene). It's probably overkill but I had some sitting around and it makes quick work of the glue without affecting the gel coat. Also removes plasti-dip easily.
@@StevenVigus thank you my friend
Amazing Editing! I feel like I'm watching some young annoying SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON TH-camr's video, but this one is way better and so much more entertaining. Keep up the great work Steve!
Thanks Sean. That means a lot to me.
What kind of solvent do you use for removing the adhesives?
Xylol. It's the solvent used for rubber paint. Acetone does a pretty good job too.
Hey Steve! Are you using regular fish soap for the initial wash?
Actually, I used some kind of general soap for pressure washing. We recently moved and it was the first thing that I could find in the pile of boxes. Works fine.
If you enjoy it keep it up.

Steve. 3m eraser check them out on amazon or local Napa. It’s amazing at removing decals. It’s a must for all body shops. Used it for my sxr pads
This is the second or third recommendation for this product. I'll check it out. Thanks.
Funny story. I went to get this product and ended up with Magic Eraser. Probably not the same thing...back to the store I go.
When will we see new vids?
Umm...soon? I have been "editing" for months now. Time to get back to work!
Yo keep making videos

What is the horsepower on that ski?
Orignially rated at 63 hp, 320 lbs. Its handling is docile compared to the old SeaDoo 2 seaters but I aapreciate the depandability of the Yamaha. And the things are dirt cheap to buy now.
New videos plz
I’ve never tried peeling a potato with a razor blade before cool idea though lol
If you use a heat gun on the plastics, it does an almost factory finish.
Thanks for the pointer. I ended up buying a new section Poe the pump. Video will be part 6 when I get some free time to edit.
Man you need a power washer, it takes that plastic crap right off easy
Use a pressure washer to get it’s real color back
jesus what about lowering the music volume by like a 1000%
Ouch! Sorry I didn't realize that it was so loud until I hooked up my big speakers.
Prioritise :- get it running then do the cosmetics. Just a thought as it's a waste of time if after all the cleaning you still can't get it running.
I bought a 1995 seadoo. Sitting for 2 years. Filled with water. Very dirty. Paid $1000.
Cleaned it in and out. Started. Guy wants it back. NO !
Sounds like a score. Now get that thing out on the water and ride!
