Brilliant interview. That Tama Bell Brass is a legendary snare drum. That drum has been on many great albums including Foo Fighters The Colour and the Shape. The Drum Doctor is legendary and that snare was always sent if available, because it's one of the best sounding snares in history.

Pop Drummers Session Players Are a Whole different animal from Other Drummers First They Must be Articulate Spot on Dynamics a spot on Phrasing, And Have Endurance They play a Gruelling schedule, They are Restricted very little Comping improvisation But not Rigid like Soan have a fluidity about themselves Reading Should have some measure of efficiency Great ears Be able to Play to a Click. I've been Drumming Professionally 56 years and had Some of those years doing Pop Gigs Recording. Being able to go in Cold sometimes getting a charting or recording of everything but Drums Go into a Studio and Lucky during the sound Check to do a run through That helps tremendously. I graduated Berklee School of Music in 79 and nothing prepared me for this scene Was Hired by a Major Booking Agency to Do everything from Sound Bites Movie Scores video games Music Advertisement It all pays the bills then along the line you get Lucky because someone notices your skill as an artisan of Drums. So I got to Play with Jackie McLean Richie Groovin Holmes Bobby Watson Richie Cole All Major Jazz Cats whom I grew up listening and Playing to and of Course the SOUL Funk Era Many Top Funk Soul Groups I played for and traveled with as Brian Culbertson Lucky Peterson Its a Tough Business you have to have a thick skin Don't let your Ego get in your way, Next I'll explain how Drum Companies Notice you.

So who are the 9 idiots that gave this a thumbs down? Soan is an inspiring drummer with awesome feel and nice chops. A real working man's drummer! Nice interview.
hes only got half a drumset !!!! - i know.... i spent today on guitar doing slow blues one note at a time, then walk over to my drumset and just blast away on everything.... im just learning restraint for timing and effect - something i need to practice on drums... guess when ya always have a lot of pcs , ya can blow right past the foundation blocks...but eventually have to go back to basics to fix timing and effect... props to Ash Soan, he only has to carry the same amount of gear as a guitarist and still gets the job done !!!!

Best session drummer from the UK. Its not a competition but if we are going there I will say that compared to Simon Phillips and Simon's discography and achievements this guy is a toilet.
