One of my favourite things about Chaos Marines is how you can use their heresy models in 40k. It's a simple proxy that adds so much flavour to your army.
I'll be that guy. I like Tzaangors. The models at least. I just hate how they've almost become the mainstay of Thousand Sons. Dedicated close combat Terminators? Yes please. Ditto for some assault marines. We're not short of close combat options, but something a bit more thematic would be nice instead of the aforementioned chickens en masse. A "real" Thousand Sons dreadnought is a given. As much as I like the Helbrute, he looks like he's on loan from Khorne no matter how you build him. Mine is always referred to as the "subtitute teacher".
The Tsons have such potential for their range, using daemons and beastmen as fast light units and having their heavy slow marines as the immovable centre of their force. I still remember when the Tsons were Slow and Purposeful #4eGang #IMiss3.5 Instead we get "hey kids you like tzaangors? Because they're in _everything_ and are basically guard" I honestly think a lot of this is down to the release schedule. Between GW's golden child the death guard, then trying to do world eaters and now EC, they don't have the sculpting resources or production capacity to do them even if they wanted to. Frankly I don't even know why they're still called by their heresy names (aside from trying to cash in on nostalgia). It shouldn't be world eaters, that legion is gone. What Angron didn't ruin was broken by Kharn when he earned his moniker. Same with the EC and Tsons who are more akin to individual warbands than a united legion force. They should rename them to something like "Khorne Berserkers" and "Noise Marines" and have done, since that also allows them to expand the range in ways unrelated to the legion like the mortal auxiliaries without it being weird. Maybe this wouldn't work for Tsons since their curse is basically the only one that's based in what Ahriman did, making their story one of an ever-dwindling force (again I remember in 4e where there was a distinction between Tzeentch-pledged marines and Thousand Sons). For Tsons, this would be some sort of bird-daemon or flying ~monkey~ tzaangor, non-Tsons marines who worship the changer of fates (which would also open up the range to vehicles and the like) and appropriate endless spells from AoS for the most magic god's faction. Imagine a Tzeentch army that moves slowly on foot, but has two moveable warp portals on the board they can scoot units between because they're wizards that makes their slow troops able to actually cover ground and get on objectives or into assaults.
I think that dual swordsman would be a fine conversion. Those headcrests on the Terminators got me thinking: if they were psychic hoods, I was looking at them and thinking that they might serve the dual purpose (at first) of acting as both a normal psychic hood and having a kill switch installed to prevent deamons, overtaking the wearer of the suit and finally the amour itself might have runes on the inside(?, knowing the TS, you can't discount the possibility!) to prevent random warp related happenings on their death... (phew!) But yeah, more Thousand Sons, would be appreciated, as they are what I am using for my Space Crusade Update project, which I will get round to one of these days...
I like your idea's on expanding the thousand sons range. In the old lore from the venerable 3rd edition rule book the thousand sons chosen marines were minor psykers and thus were not automa like their more unfortunate brothers, the kenetai occult warriors could easily fill this as thousand sons chosen. And as for dreadnoughts, surely there must be some venerable ancients in the thousand sons armoury who were of high enough psychic abilities to have not changed to dust, and even if they did succumb to the change, there is a number of lore based pictures of thousand sons dreadnoughts as they were in the heresy era, not covered in mutations like the current copyright friendly hellbrute model.
I couldn't agree more, Robots are cool, but there is no thousand sons space marines in the thousand sons army range!?!?!? We need Occult Blades, could even give out different weapon options, we also need Rubrics with Heavy weapons, and honestly so much more. Thousand Sons have really fallen behind and its sad to see.
Thousand Sons were launched in that unfortunate position of just before Primaris came out. I think they had more stuff planned that got canceled and it's being redesigned. Sadly, there's no chance it'll be out for at least a couple years.

I miss my Thousand Sons 40k army some days. I purposely avoided tzaangors because I wanted a more marine focus. A rubric dread or a 40k chaos equivalent to the Osiron dread would be cool I think
I don’t hate thousand sons but I do wish there was another face for tzeentch space marines. Then again I’m the one dude who actually likes the tzangor.
@@faithgacha1554 could use regular CSM and make your own Tzeentch Warband. I'm tempted to do similar so I can use CSM kits that aren't allowed in KSons.
I'm already thinking about converting Raptors/Warp Talons and making them more Tzeentchian. It's a natural fit, why does the Bird God Legion not have flying troops? There's even a vulture head in the Exalted Sorcerer kit that looks really great if you put it on a regular marine. It especially fits on a Raptor body... I would also kill for a Egyptian themed dreadnought. It's a walking sarcophagus, they just need to put a King Tut Style sarcophagus on the front and give it a plasma cannon + khopesh. Make it psychic. Done. Honestly, all of those generic CSM kits that need an upgrade really need to come back to the Cult Legions as upgraded kits complete with Chaos God decorations so we can tie them to the Legions. Bikers, Dread/Helbrutes, Raptors... But something tells me GW is trying to phase those kits out completely, to be replaced with things that can only be used by specific armies. That seems to be the direction they're going in...
I'll have to disagree regarding the fast attack, i feel like something GW green lite for warhammer fantasy via total war Warhammer is armoured lads on disks of tzeench. It could be sick to have a squad of 3-5 aspiring sorcerers thats more built for melee to be a fast attack choice. Also gives the some HQ's a fellow disk unit to join.
While the image of a sorcerer on disk hurtling across the battlefield is cool I love the idea of him being flanked by jackal themed rubrics on chonky bikes

I like Tzaangors too. I just don't like them everywhere all the time at the expense of everything else.
