@gregwilliams4926 - .... full roster; No dlc 👍. That said, it's missing ALL of the legacy soundtrack + cut scene dlc packs that came out for the PS3/XB360 versions.
For context, Bandai Namco and Nintendo had a partnership during this time where Bandai would help develop games for the Wii U. The 4 games were Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros 4, Pokken and the Wii U port of TTT2
@@MrDp115 from what I remember, Sakurai mentioned that he wanted Heihachi to appear in Smash for WiiU and 3DS, but he couldn't figure out how to translate Tekken's playstyle into Smash, by the time Ultimate came out he figured it out and he choose Kazuya since his devil form made him more interesting, especially for his Final Smash
At this point in the Switch's life I don't think it would be a good idea, though honestly I always find kind of weird that out of all of the third-party characters in Smash Ultimate, Kazuya Mishima is the only one whose main series has not a single game on the Switch. I've heard that Harada mentioned that his team tried to port Tekken 7 to the Switch, but the console couldn't handle the game, but he also recently mentioned that he would like to see a Tekken game on Nintendo consoles, and honestly, there isn't a single 3D fighting game on the Switch, but there's plenty of 2D, platform and arena fighters available
@@pablocasas5906 i mean, theres a bunch of 3D arena fighters on Switch, i dunno how that's different than Tekken. Games like that need to downscale or find a porting team for it. Like Mortal Kombat on Switch. Its not perfect but it works.
@@pablocasas5906 I mean technically ARMS is a 3D fighting game and there's also Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm and Dragon Ball Xenoverse which are 3D arena fighters but I get what you mean.
I'd prefer Tekken 5 DR, Tekken 6, and Ultra Street Fighter 4. The best part of TTT2 was the legacy soundtrack and CGI ending dlc packs that are NOT in the Wii-U version.
The best feature about Tag 2 (and i mean THE BEST) is the ability to do 4 player matches with 4 controllers. 2vs2 essentially. It was THE party game during my university years. I would bring 2 controllers to my friends houseparty while he had a PS3 and another 2 controllers, and we would set it up for people to play. It was crazy fun.
I LOVE this game. I'm a big Tekken fan to start with, and this one was the perfect way to get my kids into it with me. Even better, I used to keep my Wii U in my van so I could play it wherever I went. On break from work? Waiting for my food order to be ready? Parked out by the beach? I could play Tekken ANYWHERE. Thanks for covering this. Awesome memories. Keep up the good work, Khan!!!
This was the first Tekken game I played! My brother and I had so much fun goofing around playing this game, especially since we could tag out as a co-op team on pretty much all the modes. The music was really great too, especially for hours and hours of customizing characters with all kinds of outfits and items. Once we realized that you could use items as attacks in matches, it was hilarious trying to use them online. I remember getting some crazy wins with the super-slow wind up item attacks like the revolver.
me and my mother play the game that way still these days, sadly its not all modes you can tag in and out in co op its only a pair play mode. i wish it was all modes so we could play ghost battles but thats not possible.
Oh right, it was Pair Play mode only that you could tag out with two players on. I wish more fighting games had features like that where two players can tag in with each other.
it has extremely bad online lag and trying to learn that many match ups made it really difficult to be good at, i still love the game but it almost killed Tekken as a series because of that stuff which is really sad
Always a joy to see the Wii U version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 get shown off... which admittedly, I didn't even know non-Wii U versions existed. The inclusion of Zelda outfits and Mario mushrooms certainly make it the more eyecatching and memorable version. 0:37 - The game release in the launch window of the Wii U, so no one had any idea how the system would do at this point in time. After the success of the Wii, many 3rd parties like thought the Wii U would do better (and I wish it did; lovely console). 1:56 - A stage creator would have been neat, though without stage interaction, would there have been much point? An if gamepad and stylus usage was allowed then I could imagine some... questionable stages being sent over to folks. 2:47 - That would be hilarious as a sort of, 3 player mode. Two players fighting it out whilst a 3rd player messes with them using the Wii U Gamepad. 4:18 - In a rare case, the Wii U version of a game is the most complete version. 5:17 - Tekken Ball appearing is always a plus and it fits within that more 'casual' focus the devs were originally pitching. Shame there is no Gon though. 7:22 - The Wii U Gamepad has some of the most comfortable trigger (ZL/ZR) buttons I've ever used, so utilising them for the attacks sounds delightful. Besides, Pokkén Tournament worked wonderfully with the Gamepad so I'm unsurprised that Tekken here also works well the controller. 9:34 - Bit strange it wouldn't been considered given it does have the most features, all the content without needing to worry about DLC or not, and options for Pro Controllers if need be. Free online as well back in the day, which would have made setting up online matches easier. 11:38 - If there is a legacy, I'd say it would be potentially paving the way for Pokkén Tournament. Bandai Namco and Nintendo would been co-involved with this project due to the Nintendo crossover features and it gave the Tekken devs experience with the Wii U.
It may be the only modern Tekken that I really played but it is my favourite by far. Massive roster, endings for days, customisation which includes the ability to paint directly on characters, Ninty costumes, the first return of Tekken Ball. As I pretty much only played offline and with family, high damage was mainly an occurrence with gimmicky attacks or Tekken Ball. On that note, why didn't the Tekken scene adopt a low damage setting for the game? I get if Online forces the rules to be a certain way, that's unfortunate but Tekken relatively speaking is always pretty high damage and I've seen some scenes (Super Turbo, Clash of Ninja EX3) deliberately adjust speed or damage as the default settings aren't always gospel. Smash players know this too well but actually don't adjust speed or damage.
I always forget that the wii U had this particular version of Tekken tag 2 in its repertoire especially when it never got ported to the switch years later. They ported the Pokémon fighting game over but not this. Although I will give this props that it was able to run the game perfectly well and it was able to get all of the content from the other versions with nothing being cut out which is a victory that I can't say very often for most ports.
This was the 1st tekken game I played and I loved I remember getting this game the same Christmas I got my Wii U I remember my dad being impressed with how realistic the fighting looked
Actually, this game is well liked by competitive fans for its fluid movement (sidesteps were more evasive than now) and the big roster which enabled crazy cool combos and synergy
Actually Tag 2 is right there with Tekken 5 as the most universally beloved tekken game among competitive players. If you ask them most of them will outright name Tag 2 as their favorite or second favorite. Tekken 7 was routinely called out as dumbing down the series while tag 2 is considered the peak of tekken's depth as a competitive game. Arslan Ash, Jimmy J tran, Speedkicks, FightingGM, Fergus, Bronson Tran. All tekken 7 players that will tell you tag 2 was the best. And in fact the devs blame tag 2's popularity with competitive players as the reason for it's financial udnerperformance. the skill gap was considered too high. Michael Murray has said how much they talk to guys like Nobi and hear how great tag 2 was but they blame it being too hard for why casuals didn't buy it.
I've had this game on my Wii U since 2015, and I play with the GamePad. I would love to see that Pac-Land stage in the final game! This version is where I first played Tag 2.
this game is still the best Tekken to me, specifically the Wii U version for Tekken Ball and all the Nintendo crossover stuff too but i really liked playing it on the other systems too. really wish we could have gotten a PC port of it
0:48 - Bamco published TTT2 Wii U at the request of Nintendo which was focused on bolstering their launch titles with the new console. Nintendo also planned on subcontracting the Tekken team to co-develop Smash 4 Wii U/3DS. Nintendo was so pleased with how smooth that went, that they lined up a Pokemon license with Pokemon Co so that the Tekken team could make Pokken to release the following year. Tag 2 was ported to get their feet wet with the devkit for Wii U, and was the natural choice because it was a 4 player "party" game.
i actually never knew a wii u version of this game existed 😭 i've put hundreds of hours into it on ps3 but i still wanna check this version out for some reason lol
I love playing on the gamepad, even more than the Wii U Pro Controller. It's actually pretty well designed, and the ergonomics fit well for me personally
Remember, tekken ball wasn't in the ps3 or 360 version of tag 2 but for some reason it's technically in Playstation Allstars via Heihachi's Tekken Ball move, & it looks similar to that ball in tag 2 WiiU. 🤔
This is the version that got me into competitive Tekken. I spent hundreds of hours learning every character I could and the online scene was actual pretty decent. At least from what I remember just barely dipping my toes into more serious Tekken play. Even though it wasn't that popular, it's my favorite Tekken game by far
There was one single content thing that was absent from the WiiU version, which was present in the Playstation version I know people wanted really bad, but there was absolutely no way it would work on Nintendo... People actually wanted the Jukebox mode, that lets you change the music of the stages to any song that you had on your system memory. The WiiU version has a version of this, where instead, it still allows you to change the music to all the DLC music. Which was every single song from every single previous Tekken game, so you still had a massive library of songs, but unfortunately, the only way to add any Nintendo songs is on the Playstation version. LOL EDIT: OH, and the online was absolutely dreadful. That's what made ME go back to the Playstation version. 💀
In response to competitive people being upset about large rosters that have a lot of options: Being upset about something you can't control is not productive. Looking at a game with a different perspective is productive. Being competitive with every game is will inevitably make you upset. Being upset in this case is a choice. Maybe competitive gamers should learn how to game their emotional mechanics. Now that would be a meta I'd be impressed with seeing.
Competitive players don't hate large rosters. It's intermediate players who do. guys that get stuck at a low rank and then complain about matchups. they are the ones who complained.
Despite how terrible everyone says the game is, I absolutely loved Tag 2. yes I am a casual Tekken player but it was still so much fun and unbalanced 😂 I can also see how competitive tourneys soured with the game. the customization took things to a whole new level. Love the cake accessory for throws.
Honestly I don't blame you for using the d-pad for this game. I don't know about anyone else but unless it's smash bros, fighting games just don't feel right on Nintendo systems. I don't if it's just the feel of the controller or the control stick but fighting games just never feel good on these things. Am I the only one who thinks this or am I not alone?
Nah, totally agree with you, the only FG that i feel worked in a Nintendo console was Tatsunoko vs Capcom, i mean yeah, it was a enhanced version of a Arcade game, but somehow it felt natural compared to the other ports
I don't understand what are you referring about fighting games not feeling right on Nintendo consoles, the Super NES had tons of fighting games, all of the Street Fighter II versions sold more than 10 million copies combined, and there were also other popular fighting games like Mortal Kombat, SNK fighters and Killer Instinct. Speaking about KI, there was KI Gold on the N64, which I admit, had very few fighters, only Smash Bros and Mortal Kombat were on the system. The GameCube had some better titles compared to the N64, and Link's inclusion in Soul Calibur II helped the game to sell well on the GCN. The Wii actually had more fighting games than the previous 2 Nintendo home consoles. The WiiU only had 2 majors one, Tekken TT2 and Smash, but the Switch is has the most fighting games than other past Nintendo consoles. And that not taking into acount purely handheld Nintendo consoles, which surpringly have hosted some interesting fighters
It's mostly a control thing for me not they control poorly it just doesn't feel right. Like the switch pro controller for example just doesn't feel right when playing something like street fighter but when playing smash ultimate it's great. I think it more so just has to do with the fighting games available. Like when you watch footage of tournaments you're never gonna find them playing the switch version of something like skullgirls it's either the pc port or the port on any other system.
@@nightmarearcade2663 well, when it comes to tournament play of course no one is going to play the Switch version of a popular fighting game, in the same way that professional Street Fighter Alpha 2 players aren't going to play the Super NES version in a tournament, ignoring the fact that majority of fighting games on Switch are late ports, like Ultra Street Fighter II Turbo, The King of Fighters XIII, Persona 4 Arena, etc. I'm just mentioning that the Switch does have a bunch of good fighting games that could be entertaning for some people. It kind of reminds me when the Switch port of Guilty Gear Strive was announced, some of the first impressions were things "who would want to play GG Strive there?", well, I don't know, there's more than 140 million Switch unites in the wild, ArcSys probably thought that there's an audience on Switch, like how games like Killer Instinct, Battle Arena Toshinden and Street Fighter Alpha were ported to the Game Boy
And I'm not trying to down play these ports most of them are extremely well done. Don't know about strive as I never tested it on switch. It's just for some reason they don't feel right to me like when you play something like the street fighter 30th anniversary collection chances are you got it for pc, PlayStation, or xbox. the genre just feels better on other platforms? It's really hard to explain so I apologize if I'm not articulating it very well.
If anything, keyboard may be an advantage due to it being instant. For as difficult as Tekken inputs can be, fighting game inputs aren't something that arcade sticks can do alone.
The part you mention of competitive players hating this game because TTT2 having a huge roster is the reason why I hate the FGC sometimes and cannot take them seriously since this is the same part of the fandom that defends SF5’s early launch
Competitive players most certainly did not hate tag 2. It's the other way around. It seems people get their impressions of that era entirely from guys like Aris and Themainmanswe who essentially rage quit the game entirely and they weren't aroudn for the scene themselves. Aris got A LOT of shit at the time for quiting the competitve scene and he got called out on it by jimmyjtran on his own podcast. That's how much aris was the unpopular opinion.
I've heard that Namco tried to port Tekken 7 to the Switch, but it seemed that the system couldn't handle it, and Namco has never tried to port an older version or Tekken and there hasn't been any rumors of a classic Tekken collection in the vein of how Capcom and SNK usually re-release their old fighting games. Still, it's kind of weird that out of all third-party characters in Smash Ultimate, Kazuya is the only one whose game of origin is not present on Switch, just compared to the other characters: - Solid Snake: the Metal Gear Solid Collection; - Sonic: there's plenty of Sonic games on Switch; - Mega Man: the collections and Mega Man 11; - Pac-Man: the Namco Collections and Pac-Man World's remake; - Ryu & Ken: Ultra SFII Turbo and various collections; - Cloud & Sephiroth: FFVII and Crisis Core; - Bayonetta: the complete trilogy and Cereza and the Lost Demon; - Simon & Richter: the Castlevania collections, which includes Dracula X in Richter's case; - Joker: it took a while but Persona 5 was ported to the Switch, and there's also P5 Strikers and Tactica; - Hero: DQ XI S, some ports of classic DQ games, DQ Monsters 3, DQ Builders 1 & 2, The Adventure of Dai spin-off, and the upcoming DQ III HD-2D remake; - Banjo-Kazooie: the original game and Tooie were added to the NSO service; - Terry: plenty of SNK games are on NSO and they ported KOF XIII; - Steve: Minecraft has sold over 5 million copies on Switch; - Sora: at least the KH Trilogy and 3D is playable on the Cloud on Switch, but there's also a rhythm game released.
Still bummed the Switch never got Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition DX.
They dont even need to add anything new, by itself has a ton of content.

The definitive version of the game is stuck on a platform a small fraction of the fanbase actually owns.
Oh nice I don't need to buy a copy I already have one
Best tekken game
I with namco would do a remastered version of tekken tag 2
Is this Tekken tag tournament 2 version different from the ps3 version!? 🎮🕹️🎮
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wish theyd bring this to switch.
Zero suit asuka is cursed
How did you not have internet in 2010 onward lmao
Give me Gide how to download the game in PC
7:14 - Bro, i'm playing on keyboard)
If anything, keyboard may be an advantage due to it being instant. For as difficult as Tekken inputs can be, fighting game inputs aren't something that arcade sticks can do alone.
the last good tekken game.
Agree
Crazy
That's how much aris was the unpopular opinion.
wtf cch khanage??😭😭😭
TTT1 is better
This was my first Tekken game and I'm still bummed there's no Tekken game on Switch.
Still, it's kind of weird that out of all third-party characters in Smash Ultimate, Kazuya is the only one whose game of origin is not present on Switch, just compared to the other characters:
- Solid Snake: the Metal Gear Solid Collection;
- Sonic: there's plenty of Sonic games on Switch;
- Mega Man: the collections and Mega Man 11;
- Pac-Man: the Namco Collections and Pac-Man World's remake;
- Ryu & Ken: Ultra SFII Turbo and various collections;
- Cloud & Sephiroth: FFVII and Crisis Core;
- Bayonetta: the complete trilogy and Cereza and the Lost Demon;
- Simon & Richter: the Castlevania collections, which includes Dracula X in Richter's case;
- Joker: it took a while but Persona 5 was ported to the Switch, and there's also P5 Strikers and Tactica;
- Hero: DQ XI S, some ports of classic DQ games, DQ Monsters 3, DQ Builders 1 & 2, The Adventure of Dai spin-off, and the upcoming DQ III HD-2D remake;
- Banjo-Kazooie: the original game and Tooie were added to the NSO service;
- Terry: plenty of SNK games are on NSO and they ported KOF XIII;
- Steve: Minecraft has sold over 5 million copies on Switch;
- Sora: at least the KH Trilogy and 3D is playable on the Cloud on Switch, but there's also a rhythm game released.
This was actually the first tekken game i ever owned. i never owned a playstation growing up
Same. I'm only a Nintendo gamer so I never heard of this series until the TTT2 Wii U port. Shame we never got one on Switch.
