- Off Sabbath's "Master of reality". Tried (emphasize that word) to do it justice but I did take Randy Castillo style liberties here and there (still love the way he covered it with Ozzy). Bill Ward is a hard cat for me to cover. Hard song to not rush during the groove and a REALLY hard song to keep up with in the middle.

Aw dude, you really don't know how much I appreciate your comments Badger. For real. That middle section does kick up a notch. Playing it live, it's still not easy but there's some freedom. Doing it to the track, I just got to that part and was thinking "Hope this works"......HAHA!!! I guess it's like a gymnast in mid air thinking "Wonder if I'll land this?" Go for it DMS! Love your covers buddy. For the Sabbath tracks, I've got the music / play along track so damn loud in my ears it's stupid. It's the only way I can stay on track since it's not anywhere near a click. Tempo shifts, subtle things happening - just 4 dudes on the same page making some kick ass music.

@@dmsdrumcovers9506 Dude, for these types of tracks I can't do it either. BPM swings that just came with the time and the awesomeness of everyone cutting together as a band. I just crank the f&*k out of the music and lower my drum volume to the point all I can hear is a little kick and snare. If you ever do figure out how to map a click to any of this, PLEASE do a vid on it!

Thank you again Mark! I had a lot of fun on this track. I can never replicate Bill Ward so it's always an attempt to get his vibe. Best I can do. One of the most underappreciated rock drummers in my opinion even though as the years have gone by, more and more people are really noticing how incredibly good he was.
Dude I always look forward to your videos so much, they are so good all around it's ridiculous, 12 out of 10! I remember hearing Master of Reality for the first time, my mom's friend had the record and I put it on without knowing who it was, omg changed my life man. At the time, way before I started playing drums, I thought Kiss was heavy lol, then I heard that! Your drumming on this is monstrous, so heavy and precise it's almost unbelievable. Oddly enough my cover band wants to play this tune, I won't be able to kill to your level but I think I figured a way to do the rolls at 2:35 and keep the kick going, I still suck at it but maybe one day? I hope I don't have to go against you in the drum battle because I will lose badly! Have a great day buddy!
I watch your stuff and honestly can't compliment you enough WCD. I truly mean that. You just OWNED Misty Mountain Hop. I sat there, watched how you put it together, listened to how clean it was - just amazed man. If you're on IG or FB, seriously dude - hit me up. Me and you would get along great dude. And I'm with you - I LOVED (and still love) 70's Kiss. Somehow, I missed Sabbath until I was pushing 20. It was into the 90's before I got a gig needing to play the stuff so I had to really, really listen. Needless to say, it made an impact. Those dudes just created an entire genre. So, so ahead of their time it's truly insane.

What up Rich! Thanks so, so much for checking it out. This is a bit of a hybrid. I flat out don't play like Bill Ward and I can't fake it. He's incredibly unique and super hard for me to cover so this is a mix of Randy Castillo's take on it but I tried to keep Ward's tom work in tact through the hyped up section (and I'm pretty sure I strayed in that too....LOL) Hope there's some other stuff on the channel you dig. Again, sure appreciate it!

Hey Paco! After doing it this way, I'd bet a hundred bucks that unless I was so tired I was about to fall asleep, I've rushed the groove tempo live every time I've done it. What up Frank! Well, on the studying side - not much of anywhere and I don't say that with pride. I got into drums when I was 15-16 if memory serves. I'd goofed around on them before that but things kinda started to feel natural around 15 or so. I grew up in small town USA so drum instructors weren't available. I toyed with going into marching band but dude, I was self taught. Trying to go in and play quads (let alone snare) that fast - forget it. I did have a friend named Chel Rich who was very trained so we used to joke that we offset one another. I'm grateful for the various channels on here to this day that do help teach different things though. So I learned by just playing, watching others and gigging my friend. Sorry for the long answer but thank you for the question!

Have you played anything off the "No More Tears" album? Randy Castillo owns the drums on that one (and "No Rest For The Wicked).
Dude, I want to something awful. I'd have up at least 10 solo Ozzy tunes and most all of 'em would be from a Castillo album but his stuff is blocked as fast as it goes up. I'm still hoping I can get some other musicians to agree to do a few songs off No Rest For The Wicked bro. Castillo is one of my top 3 dudes. HUGE influence on me
@@TreyBDrums Sucks how things get blocked with alarming regularity on the social media platforms. If anyone's content is practically public domain (or owned by Zuckerberg) then what's the difference? I don't know who controls all that stuff, even if you did original material you might not have any rights to it; think you should be able to play anything you want, I used to alter cover songs way back when & was condemned by my bandmates for it. Was just putting my spin on the songs, it was all live performance & I figured it ought to be risky and edgy. Blocking practically reads like censorship in a way.
