Ovechkin's reaction to winning the cup still makes me tear up when watching it. I'm not a capitals fan but this man really truly deserved this win. Of course any team who wins the cup obviously deserves it. But for some reason Ovechkin's reaction hit me in all the feels.

I have been a Capitals fan for almost 30 years. I didn't cry when the horn sounded-I just say "Oh My God" on repeat for 1 full minute. All the years of frustration. The Caps were a meme for failure. A crushing loss and knowing you had a full regular season where my heart would be broken yet again!
Seeing Ovechkin just let out that primal scream was the catharsis that I felt. It's something that can never be taken away.
I could watch this forever.
No athlete in the world of sport more deserving of a ring than Ovi!

As a penguins fan this brings tears to my eyes, tears of pure joy, the emotion from Ovechkin is unreal, I hope this guy lifts another before his time in the nhl comes to an end.

Niclas Vestman Yea the St Louis hoist definitely not as exciting and emotional as the Caps, but I think the Blues game was better because it had that Game 7 atmosphere and they completely shocked Boston.
Boston treated the Blues' Cup like it was a funeral (with lots of f-bombs) tbh.
@@OfficialChrisW Well the great thing about the caps victory was the fact that so many great players got their first cup. Backstrom, Oshie, Kuzy, Holtby, Beagle, and Smith-pelly after dealing with racism in chicago.
Because there was no specific player that waited a longtime to hoist the cup
I think the only one that rivals this was Joe Sakic giving Ray Bourque the cup so he could lift it.

Ovechkin holding up The Cup is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in sports !
I am a Bruins fan but I was jumping with excitement and joy for the capitals , but more importantly, for ovi. He’s been through defeat too many times, always falling to the penguins and never making it past the 2nd round. This year however is different, the tables have turned in the capitals favor. Coming back against the blue jackets, knocking out the penguins in 6 games in ot, shutting out the lightning in game 7, now they have taken the sword and shield from the knights to win the Stanley Cup. This season is probably one of the greatest seasons to ever happen in NHL history. Like Ray Borque when he won the cup with the avalanche on 2001 we are all excited and happy for Alexander Ovechkin as he finally gets the cup and raises it high above him after 13 years in the NHL. It was a difficult journey for Ovi and the capitals but they overcame to finally win the cup. So, in celebration for Alexander Ovechkin.

The best feel good moment of 2018 in sports. I'm not a capitals fan but seeing ovi finally hoist the cup is one of the biggest satifactions for me.

When this happened I was actually doing my military service which is a obligatory thing for all men in Finland and when the game ended, I felt that all of us Caps fans around the world had just won a war. To this day, it is still the happiest I've ever felt. Been a fan since I was 9 years old and it was over ten years in the making. I know a lot of people had waited much longer but it still felt like an eternity, because Caps always had a team to compete with, but never managed to get past the 2nd round.
I have never been so drunk when I finally got to celebrate on the next weekend. Man, wish this could happen again.

Just like I got goosebumps whenever Sid the Kid raised the cup as a Caps/ Sharks fan. Looking forward to the Pens/Caps rivalry becoming even more heated.
I 100% agree and I am also a pens fan. Ovechkin and the capitals have been too good since hes been there to never win a cup. Well deserved and seeing Ovechkin hoist that cup even had me pumped. Next season we can hate them again and enjoy the rivalry that both fanbases have been spoiled by.

In the last couple of years I got the feeling that Ovechkin had accepted that he may never lift the cup, which made this so much more emotional. You can see the pain and joy all wrapped into one when he lifts it. Beautiful!

Bin in the leauge since he was 18 even tho im a loyal sharks fan, ive always watched alex since i started watching and playing hockey, i watched all the times alex struggle against a dominate penguins squad but no longer as hes relieved from the curse he was droughted in a long time. It really is. You would think that baseball's Commissioner's Trophy or the Vince Lombardi Trophy would be more prestigious.... but each team gets their own copy! This trophy on belongs to the Capitals until the next season starts.

Nah, WC is only 7 games to win it, three in the group stages and four in the playoffs.
The Stanley cup requires minimum 16 matches to win it but that's in fantasy conditions. The reality is it takes 20 to maximum 28 3-hour games to lift that trophy!
That goes two ways. If there is knockout stage with best of 1 game, i actually think it makes it harder to win. Inexample, Washington Capitals would had been knocked out from their first match against Columbus.
I was hopeful for Vegas to win, but after seeing how happy Ovechkin was to lift that cup, I'm glad he won, he truly deserves it. Good for him!

I feel this is the greatest moment in Washington sports! Seeing how the Caps fell short so many times and suffered through abysmal seasons. Ovi expression of joy lifting the cup was primal and it was as if all of us we holding the trophy. The trophy was light compared to the great weight we had experienced for so long.

Jay Beagle is the first player in history to hoist the ECHL’s Kelly Cup, AHL’s Calder Cup, and the Stanley Cup. Wow
That's a cool accomplishment no doubt... but to be fair almost no NHLer's will ever have a shot at winning an ECHL cup, since almost all are so far above that level that they never are even demoted that low. Don't get me wrong that's incredible for Beagle, considering how far he has come... but the stat is pretty skewed.
There have been 6 cups that have brought tears to my eyes. 93 I cried tears of sadness when Montreal won the cup. 2001 I cried bittersweet tears when Rob Blake hoisted the cup for the Avalanche. 2002 was the hardest to watch when my favorite player of all time Robitaille hoisted the cup for the team I hate the most in hockey the red wings. Then finally tears of utter joy in 2012 and 2014. And then this one. Ovi and Oshie made this one special.
Congrats to the Caps and their fans. That is one fan base that deserves it!

So much raw emotion. As a Canucks/Pens fan since '90, this made me smile. Congrats to Ovi, the Caps, and Washington fans. This is your moment and it was well deserved. It's been a long time coming and you've had some really good teams - too many to never win a cup. We'll try to take it back next year.
