They weren’t touching that second verse with a 10 meter cattle prod
ya scumbag ya maggot
To bad really is my favourite Christmas song
@@booksaremybag4684 You lousy Bob Saget
You're grumpy and crabbed
@shutup tell that to a certain radio station in Dublin.....
This is a lovely rendition. RIP Shane MacGowan
What a weird coincidence that I had "Fairy Tale" in my head this morning and got wondering what the song "Galway Bay" was and then found this and THEN see that Shane just passed yesterday. What a life he had.
And I'm SO impressed with this rendition. SO beautiful. Jimmy hit it on the nose without seeming like a parody. Well Done all. *sniff* 😔
Fallon is such an ass. It’s so painful and disrespectful.
What, he's gone?
@@ruanyuexinyes
Heartbroken 💔 😢😢
That was beautiful! RIP Shane. When I close my eyes I imagine Kirsty and Shane singing together again this Christmas. Thank you, Saoirse and Jimmy, No Christmas without this song.
But never did I hear Kirsty’s vocals blessing this. RIP Shane, and god bless Kirsty MacColl.
I'm glad Jimmy didn't joke about doing the voice and did an actual cover, it sounded really good.
agreed
Singing is the one thing he always takes seriously
Well, he did make "a voice" tho, not his natural voice at all.
Still a decent cover
HE SUCKS ASS. he's making a mockery of the song. Grow some ears.
@@Fizzure3000 he did but he was just trying to sound like shane, it wasnt in a joking way
Jimmy Fallon really sounded like Shane MacGowan, performing this song. And, Saoirse Ronan was charming and delightful as the beautiful and talented Ms. Ronan always is.
Beautiful performances from the both of them.
They’re not really singing this junkies
Lol they’re just celebrities
Dont you dare comparing him to shane you idiot
You think that was really jimmy singing?
Saoirse Ronan is not only absolutely beautiful, but she also seems to be a genuine person. She is the entire package!
Oh, what a lovely woman!
Except for the phoney Oirish accent
@@oiooi6460 Phoney?
@@deanlowdon8381 that accent is so put on
@@oiooi6460 What?
This hit my heart in the bullseye. Jimmy is such a goofball that people forget what a brilliant artist he is when he dials down the silly and gets real. Love this. And Saoirse was beautiful and perfect for this.
100%
They didn't sing the insults, though! I'm sure the writers could have figured out some way to write out "f----t' while still maintaining the spirit of the song.
Great duo. Fallon's brilliant and Saorise is the most gifted actress of her generation. She can belt out a tune too.
she has the voice of a child , so innocent I love it!
Jimmy's singing is spot-on. They skipped the sad verse! Lovely rendition.
Oh yeah, right. I didn't even catch it but you're right, they left out the part where they insult each other.
@@BLenz-114 That's the best part!
Yeah, that verse had offensive slurs going back and forth. I'm sure the standards and practices department would have had a field day even though this is supposed to be a late night program.
@@728huey Absolutely, but without it the song loses its bite that Shane McGowan intended it to have.
They also skipped part of the beginning, this verse here:
Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
I've got a feeling
This year's for me and you
So happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true
Honestly anyone who takes the time to pay tribute to this song by singing it or performing it to the best of their abilities deserves a high five or a handshake or a respectable nod. This song in general is amazing and I applaud all of those who support it
Shane probably threw up when he saw Jimmy Fallon singing this
@@nochepatada He could well have. At least this fella enjoyed it 👍
@@jackjude you like how they censored the best verse? The one that sets it apart from other Christmas songs
@@nochepatada No I don't. (I just agreed with you in my last comment btw.)
I thought you meant "this guy" referring to yourself as in:
"Who has 2 thumbs and misunderstood"
"👍👍this guy!"
2:47 it's such a small thing but I find it really sweet that he said happy Christmas to her without the microphone it felt very personal
No, it’s apparently controversial to say it with the mic. Happy holidays is unproblematic I heard.
Each time I see her, Saoirse has become more beautiful than the last. No surprise that she sings beautifully too. She's a testimony of Irishness.
I love her!! She is so talented and full of heart and soul and so beautiful!
It doesn't matter when or where - when I hear this song I start crying
Yeah me too
Jimmy was spot-on with his Shane Macgowan impression. Get a few pints in him and he'd be exactly the same😂
I just have to say Jimmy was amazing doing his part here. They sung this beautifully. I think this is one of my favourite xmas songs. For personal reasons and I dedicate it to my partner who also loved this song and passed away in 2018. I miss my Danny every day. ❤️ And I wish he was still here but like many others who have experienced so much loss, all we can do is try and come through and remember them and the good memories. 🙏😞❤️
Lauraaa... big hug from Germany
To Lauraaa Your Jimmy is waiting. For him, you'll be there in a few minutes. It's we who are still the prisoners of time who must endure. But, I hope the knowledge gives your spirit a lift. Plus, It's true. I wish you every happiness.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
He ruined the song
To your Danny 🍻 💚🕊
Jimmy nailed the Shane McGowan impression
Wrong.
No one can sing like Shane McGowan though he's unique he grew up singing they said he sang before he talked !
He did In His hoop
Jimmy Fallon is a goose 🦆
Nobody is Shane but Shane... but I was truly stunned by what a good job Jimmy did! I almost didn't click, thinking it would be cheesey and cringey, but I was pleasantly surprised!
Great Job by Fallon singing with Shane McGowans classic raspy voice
No
I HAVE LOVED THIS FROM THE NIGHT THEY AIRED IT!
Swerved around that second verse lmao
Sadly.
The fact they skipped the arguing part of the song is atrocious
I mean I get it, there would have been a thing if they did it
@nathaniel koutsostavros
Yeah, two words in there that they would have had to omit completely
@@nathanielkoutsostavros2779 Just go down the “you’re cheap and your haggard” route
And of course it's all because of that unbelievably awfully "offensive" word which only became "offensive" in the song a few years ago.
@@tylarjackson7928 they say it’s one of their favourite songs. It didn’t become people’s favourite with the thought who is offended or not. If you’re not completely dumb and listen to the lyrics, you can see the context is not to offend someone who’s gay. So many snowflakes these days, especially in America
I started off thinking "oh no, surely he is not going to try an actual impersonation of Shane MacGowan singing this..." 😬 and then, within minutes...no, within seconds "...actually...that is really good" 😅
Damn, her voice sounds really good
Wouldn’t mind a winter lock in with that one either, she’s a beauty.
RIP Shane McGowan
Shane MacGowen wasn't doing so good , and was in hospital , but he's doing better today thankfully . So Happy Christmas to ye Shane , I can see a better time when all your dreams come true . Good luck with your art .
Jimmy is such an underrated singer, man's certainly talented
RIP Shane MacGowen, thank you sir, hats off
WOW, Jimmy that was amazing, well done both of you, really enjoyed that
RIP Shane Macgowan❤
Is there anything this woman can't do?🤔😍🙏
They did a great job! Wish they had done the whole song. Probably not appro for Jimmy’s upbeat show.
They both really seemed happy and touched by the song. Loved it.
that's much better than expected by Jimmy Fallon... sounded near exact
I love this song
He did fantastic! And she occasionally sang in tune. Well at least it was live
Look at the audience trying to clap along 🙈😂😂😂
the best christmas song ever !
We need a revisit of this song considering Shane McGowan has passed away.
Post Script:
You both sound great.👍
Gosh Jimmy……….IMPRESSIVE!
Yo Jimmy killed this. Mad talent.
Absolutely amazing! Saoirse is so beautiful ❤
I really love the music of the Pogues. While they were actively touring, I would go see them if they got with in 200 miles of me.❤
Surprisingly good!! Well done Jimmy Fallon
He can lip sync with the best of them.

What a beautiful song
i love jinmies voice and face - you can tell he loves the song! and she is lovely as ever!
Beautiful cover, especially from Jimmy got the accent and gritty voice down to a tee
The Roots musicianship may have no comparison. Each of them are the top.
Too bad they left out the verse with "you're a bum, you're a punk...." but Jimmy does surprisingly well. Cheers!
It jarred me at first then you realize that it's broadcast over the air so probably didn't want to upset folks upstairs. But that last line always hits home to me. Along with Bruce Springsteens "River". "Is a dream a lie if it don't come true or is it something worse.
nah, they are just cowards, 4 days ago they played the song at Shane's funeral in church while televised on live tv with the prime minister of Ireland in attendance in the front row. by the end of the song everyone was in the aisles dancing. @@selewachm
I'm surprised they didn't change "drunk tank" to "toy store."@@AR-fb2cz
Great Shane McGowan impression by Jimmy
this is very well sung - bu the pogues are the pogues. I love this!
Better than I expected, but without the middle verses this song is nothing
New found respect for Jimmy Fallon , RIP Shane 🙏🏼
RIP Shane MacGowan.
Saoirse Ronan oltre ad essere una bellissima ragazza ha una voce fantastica.
RIP Shane McGowan… A legend.
ah, sanitised for tv, Still, it's the thought that counts. RIP Shane MacGowan and Kristy MacColl. Every year you will be missed.
Im from ireland and this is EPIC...
Jaysis that Fallon fella can sing! Well done!
Sure, take the middle part out - the one that makes this song so much more complex than you're average Christmas song.
Wow, I love this. Very well done!
RIP Shane and RIP Kirsty.
I love them both! They are wonderful and amazing people! Jimmy is so nice and funny! Saoirse, she's beautiful, isn't she?
I hope to meet Saoirse one day!

Hats off to the roots
They did slow it down a bit though compared to the original
Such a beautiful song, god bless poor Kirsty 🙏

Rest in Peace, Shane
They left the best bit of the song out
one of my favriot holiday songs, for people that dont know and i play it for takes them so off guard.
The band is just so good
IF you’re going to sing a classic song like this, sing the whole song!!!!
It was done well but I guessed they'd miss out the F word. It's insulting not to sing it, it was written in the 80s, get the context right.
it's amazing how many people in the comment section don't understand censorship in American television.
I was surprised. Jimmy did so well ❤️
Oh wow. Jimmy actually nailed it!
I love this so much. I just wish Jimmy did it straight and not do his always over the top acting. This video would have over 3 million views. He and Saoirse should do it again and make it a yearly thing.
he's doing an awesome Shane macgowan imitation
Coming from an Irish guy who has suffered through horrendous Irish accents from Americans, I wholeheartedly approve of this cover. Excellent job 👌🏼
Mike Ryan in from Roscommon.
Alan Sweeney Sorry, where is this “Roscommon” that you speak of?
Well at least one of the singers is Irish which helps. Didn't realise it was Saiorse Rohan watching this, I need to learn to read.

That’s as good a mimic of Shane MacGowan’s voice that you will ever hear. Jimmy is one hell of a singing voice ‘chameleon’.
Holy shit, right?!? The opening lines especially were especially spot on.
He’s an impressionist
Sounds nothing like Shane! Like he is a good impressionist but all he did was put on a gravely voice with a very bad Dublin accent!
Were you watching this on mute and listening to the pogues. Only thing that makes sense to me. Sounds nothing like Shane McGowan
It was such credible Shane MacGowan impersonation, I was concerned for Fallon’s teeth for a second there...
Not only one of the best actresses of our time but also a good singer!? Someone give her an Oscar already
Omg Me should’ve had one this year!
landshark321 she really should've! maybe next year

She has a song called Tell me. She has a lovely voice. 😊
She has great voice
She is a real artist. A multi-talented one.
@Demo Gorgon yeap. th-cam.com/video/Sx83owWT5Ck/w-d-xo.html . This was featured on her film Lost river.
Are you tone deaf? Her voice was terrible, especially in the last verse. Sounds more like pub idol than American idol.
As an Irishman that was actually pretty good, was a good attempt at Shane Mcgowan.
Kenneth Fox are you really Irish tho🤔

Her acting is The Lovely Bones always gets me emotional.
that movie was something else, great actress
Her acting in Atonement 2007 so amazing
If you thought that was impressive you should see Lady Bird. She's been in so many films since then. Kinda makes me sad when people say that's all they know her from.
@@TheBrownLamb I have seen all her movies but for me, her acting in The Lovely Bones is the most underrated and underappreciated acting of Saoirse Ronan's career. Every frame in that movie was lit with her acting charisma in it, even when the movie got bad reviews, Stanley Tucci got an Oscar nom, Saoirse was snubbed that year. And years later there are people who still forget that she was that girl who acted in that movie. She was 13 year old and she had not read the Alice Sebold book because she was too young and the book was too graphic, without even knowing the horrifying details she gave a fantastic performance. Her LadyBird perf got a lot of limelight last year, even launching her in as a popular actress, so I don't feel the need to talk about it.
Below is my favourite bts scenes in that movie.

THIS MAKES MY LOVE HER MORE. She is far too perfect. I literally will watch anything she is in.
I've developed a crush on Saoirse Ronan in the last couple of days. The more interviews I see her in I like her even more. She seems so down to earth and fun to be around with.
That was great. I love Saoirse - she seems so genuine and unaffected, and her acting chops are fantastic. I mean Seriously...who pulls off a role like she did in Atonement at age 11 or 12.? Crazy good.
I know right! I agree, she seems very lovely and down to earth :)
She has 3 times Oscar nominated amazing actress 👍
Canuckmom1958 and she’s never had an acting lesson , never gone to drama school just shows when you got it you got it . Her father is also an actor & she spent a lot of time on sets with him as a little girl ... she’s a natural.....

Alex Wright Yes it sure as hell was ,,, she’s marvellous..... makes me so proud to b Irish ☘️

Saoirse is seriously amazing. We're talking a generational talent. I really hope she finds great scripts the next 50 years because honestly there is no one better at their craft. She's that good and seems like a very sweet and humble person.
