I'll be 90 in Nov. 2023 and still remember a bitter cold day in Mar. 1944 when several young soldiers came to visit my beautiful first cousin, Jean, with whom they had been in H.S. In the group gathered around the fire was a 17 yr. old named Calvin whose mom had signed allowing to join. Calvin loved this song (the version released by Wily Walker and your grandpa in 1941), and sang, hummed, and whistled it continuously. Calvin hit Omaha Beach on June 6, and a round blew his leg off. From his stretcher his last words were "well, goodbye boys, and don't forget to be good Christians" as told by one of his buddies. He died of shock before they could get him to the hospital. ship. I've never forgotten that evening.

One of my favorite country singers. What a voice he had. The world lost a gem in country music when he passed away. This brings tears to my eyes for the loss of him
