The diamond market is such a joke. When I was younger, I worked for a jewelry store. They had a case of cheaper diamond rings with "flawed" stones...mostly ones that weren't completely clear. Some of my favorites in the whole store were the supposedly inferior yellow diamonds, because they had such an unusual color. Fast forward a few years, and those same diamonds have been rebranded to Canary Diamonds, and are sold for higher prices. All it takes is a good marketing campaign to make diamonds that people would have passed up years ago into something really sought after.

I've never been a diamond fan, nor gold (silver and copper are my favorites). But black diamonds I think are beautiful. Don't care for the white or yellow ones, but the black..... something about those ones I like. Anything interesting you can tell me about black ones?

Can you please tell me what is the deal on those awful looking chocolate diamonds? What exactly are they how flawed or what is the whole deal with them? Are they actually even diamonds I would just love to know the real deal on how Le’Veon Jewelers actually convinced so many people that they were a cool thing. Thanks in advance. No matter how many Beautiful and gorgeous hand models they could not convince me that they were cool or valuable. But perhaps you know since you worked at the jewelry store. Thank you so much!!

@@Ilovevintage77 because chocolate diamonds and champagne ones are darker than your typical top light brown (usually heavy inclusions and just light brown from where they are mined) diamond, so it puts them in the fancy color range, along with deep yellows. Some of them are natural, some are irradiated to get their colors. There is a fancy color range, so not just any yellow is a fancy color. Anyway, the chocolate, champagne, black diamonds always look really good when set into rose gold. Its just fashion 🤷

My husband is an opal cutter and going to love this episode because it tells the truth about the diamond industry and how it’s all a lie. You’d think people would know this since the US had state parks where you can pick up diamonds if you find them, but marketing is a powerful tool. Good episode, I wonder if there’s any more historical scams y’all can teach us about?

My husband is very traditional and adamant about upgrading my ring in a few years. I’ve finally convinced him to get me a lab grown one when he does! It’s definitely the way to go, especially with how strongly I feel about conflict-free diamonds. He knew this, so mine is from Canada and I thought that equaled conflict-free, but unfortunately that’s not entirely true. So I will be getting all my diamonds lab grown from now on!

When I bought my niece her high school graduation diamond ring I made certain that the diamond was non De Beers and came from Canada. The indigenous people, the San, gave De Beers mineral rights to their land with the understanding that they would be allowed to continue their traditional lifestyle. Instead, De Beers forced the San to work their mines and the resulting damage to their lives was heartbreaking. I couldn't see supporting that corporation.

Our engagement rings were $10 silver rings from a department store, wedding rings were real gold but still we didn’t spend a fortune on them. Our wedding was a picnic party with a handful of friends. No pressure, no awkward situation with family, just us. We’re still happily married after 10 years. On the other hand, my cousin had it all. Super posh wedding, princess dress, reception at a castle… one year later she got divorced because her husband cheated on her and left her and their baby daughter. Love is all that matters, no ring or dress

@Patricia Walker if only opals were more durable in a ring. Its my favorite stone. But I would rather wear one in a pendant so it doesn't break as easily. Used to have a black opal ring. My mom found the stone and designed the ring around it. She had a jeweler make it. The thick gold band was as wide as the stone and the opal was set into the ring with a band of gold. It was a simple yet dramatic ring. I wish I still had it. It was stolen. Since my mom died young it was a priceless remembrance of her.

I wouldn’t be wearing a diamond, but my mother-in-law inherited a gorgeous European cut diamond that belonged to her great aunt in the 1920’s. They’re rare now, as they were hand-cut and have less facets than the newer, flasher, laser-cut diamonds. This one was cut by hand in NY and it’s super cool to know I’m the third generation to wear it. My husband’s great aunt had it in a simple white gold band, then my MIL had it in yellow gold, now I have it in rose gold… all of the prongs are the original white gold though. It’s neat because it doesn’t look super fancy to the naked eye, but it absolutely glows in low-light settings. After all, it was cut back when not everyone had electricity and many still relied on candlelight, fireplaces, or lanterns. When you see it in that light, you see a little glimpse of family history. One of my boys will have it someday to pass down. I hope they never buy some new, random diamond from who knows where…

Exactly! They're not even interesting looking! Personally I like really vivid blue stones best, but the shimmery color-changey ones like moonstone and opal are really cool too, as are patterned stones. Then there's diamonds, which just...kinda look like rhinestones to be honest...

Honestly, you were better off with the diamond. At least you (presumably) still have the ring he gave you. It’ll stay as it is, unaltered, and safe until it’s time for you to meet him again. Not that diamonds are indescribable or something that cannot be lost. But they’re difficult to break that’s for sure. Pearls on the other hand are quite soft. They’re really not suitable for daily wear and common cleansers can harm them. Hand sanitizer for example could destroy such a ring. That’s just extra heartbreak. 😥

Diamonds are overrated. DeBeers marketing team, however, are apparently not. Nobody should be enslaved and/or murdered over pretty rocks.
I do have one diamond ring, an inheritance from my grandmother who got it from her grandmother. The band's cooler to me than the shiny pebble. Told my spouse long before our engagement that I had zero desire for another. (and he listened. He did give me a lovely opal pendent to wear for our wedding though)

I have a diamond ring that was passed on to me from my mother and it will be passed on to my son when he finds a woman of his dreams. The 60's rock band Gary Lewis And The Playboys recorded a song called, "This Diamond Ring". The premise is, some guy is trying to sell the engagement ring his fiance returned to him. Lyrics to the song include the words:
This diamond ring doesn't for me shine anymore.
This diamond ring doesn't mean what I bought it for.
This diamond ring will shine for you,
    If your love is true.
Nowadays, synthetic diamonds are being produced that can even fool the experts.

I laughed that they made it so specific yet so arbitrary, yet so ridiculously high. Young people who are just starting out often don't have three months salary just sitting around burning a hole in their pocket. I personally am against the whole diamond ordeal. Therefore I planned on buying my future wife an Alexandrite engagement ring. My lovely lady had other plans, which only included diamonds😏. So although I was against the diamond, I guess I got off cheap. The Alexandrite engagement ring I was going to get her was double the price for the same size stone. She ended up with a Neil something-or-other (Neil Lane maybe) registered diamond ring. So although it was an expensive ring, I got a deal because diamond rings are a dime a dozen. I tried to explain that to her, but whatever.... she's the one who's got to wear my woulda been a classic sports car on her finger🤣😅. Love ya babe!

    • @mattesyl33
      @mattesyl33 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@starrfaithfull6934No offense to you Kathleen, I'm absolutely positive the Alexandrite was a much more expensive stone. Sure, maybe you can buy some cheap foggy Alexandrite which will barely shift shades. The Alexandrite stone alone (which I was shopping) cost more than the entire Neil whatever diamond ring. They were approximately the same size stone. It was a clear diamond of equivalent top value, and it was no comparison to Alexandrite. We're not talking about a pink diamond here. A pure transparent, color changing Alexandrite is a more expensive stone than a run of the mill regular clear diamond without color. Clear diamonds without a hue such as pink, are common. Reguardless of flawlessness or clarity. Unless you get into the 3+ CT. range, and even then, compared to an Alexandrite stone of equivalent size and quantity, the diamond is cheaper.
And on my could have been classic sports car 😅, you assume it would leave my garage except on special occasions reguardless😁. Such as a few times a month, in the summertime to cruise with the little lady...🧔👩‍🦰. Either which way, she'd probably get to drive it more than me anyway😅.
On stingyness, I have a few thoughts. Most men and women now a days lack true commitment into a forever relationship. Probably because very few view marriage as a lifetime thing anymore. Either they feel they are settling (with ulterior motives in mind) , or they're not completely sure, and they see it as a thing they can easily get out of. So they figure, why fully commit. I was married once before, for almost 2 whole years (wow right). She thought she was able to use me for personal gain, which she did (slightly). I became fully aware, and gave her an altermatum. Ultimately she got a townhouse, which she now has to pay for herself. I got a future free of her, where I found the love of my life. A beautiful woman, that loves to spoil me. Since she devotes her all to me, I wouldn't want to devote a drop less to her. Love is not a rushed endeavor. Sometimes, it can be a bit of work. Yet most times, it should be easy as cruising down a country road in a classic sports car, on a bright sunny day. 🌞 You like what I did there? Always back to the old sports car😅. Point is that most people now, are addicted to immediate satisfaction. That has very little to do with hand in hand, never shall they part. A commitment such as that, can not be entered into with a stingy heart. A love like that, cares little of personal sacrifice. That, has to be entered into equally from both ends, hers as well as his. I couldn't care less if I ever buy that classic sports car now. I have a woman who makes me laugh and smile. We share in life's happiness as well as it's pain. It is when something doesn't feel like it matters until it's shared together. That is when everything seems small individually, so of course... give it your all together.
So yes, to wrap up this frickin' dissertation, I'm not surprised to find stingy men. Although where I find a man not willing to fully commit in this, I often find a woman who leaves her man wanting. I spent a minimal amount on my 1st wife's ring, plus it was bought used. We were both settling. Although for different reasons, the commitment showed... on all levels. Thank you for your best wishes, the same to you. Stay well and congratulations if you managed to read this entire thing. THAT was a commitment 😆 lol.

THE TERMINOLOGY AND HORSEPLAY OF MARRIAGE
What is marriage and why do people get married? Obviously, the pre-programmed answer to this question is to say; "marriage is a sacred union between two people as partners in a personal relationship, and they do this because that's what two people do when they truly love each other". However, to truly answer this question, one must look deeper into the meaning of the "sacred bonds of holy matrimony".
What is a "bond"? A bond can refer to a thing used to join two or more items together but it can also refer to an agreement or contract with legal force. In the case of marriage, the word bond refers to both definitions. However, there is usually a third party accompanying this binding legal contract, and that's where the legal force comes into play. Of course, you know who that third party is, it's your old pal, the government, whose always looking out for your best interest. But why does the government have to get involved in your marriage? Perhaps the reason can be found hidden in plain sight within the terminology relating to marriage.
Marriage, brides, and grooms, are all terms relating to horse breeding:
    • The word "marriage" relates to a "mare", which is a female horse.
    • The word "bride" relates to a "bridle" which is an item of equipment worn on a horse's head, enabling a rider to control the horse's movement.
    • The word "bridegroom" relates to a "groom" or stable boy, which is a person responsible for some or all aspects of the management of horses and/or the care of the stables themselves.
    • A "stag" is a young, unbroken horse, which is why a bachelor celebrates with a "stag" party before getting married.
    • The word "engagement" refers to the use of the horse's back and hindquarters to create energy and impulsion to forward movement.
    • Perhaps, you are familiar with the phrase "barefoot and pregnant", which, you guessed it, also comes from equestrian terminology, as a breeding mare is usually kept barefoot (without horseshoes) when breeding.
From a traditional legal standpoint, horses are considered as livestock properties, often bred for performance and for other commercial enterprises.
Are you seeing a pattern yet?
