This is so expensive because so many copies were bundled with the SNES system, that there wasn't many individual copies sold in the standard box.
I'm still in disbelief that it was right there in plain sight and I have no idea how long it was there and people didn't realize how valuable it was.
This couldn't have happened to anyone better than you guys. Well deserved. Having the manual previously was a huge bonus. Definitely feels super strange being worth so much. It found a great home. Can't wait for more videos in this series.
Aw that is super sweet of you to say! More than anything I'm just happy it found a home in a collection that didn't get resold and inflate the price even more, whether it would have been ours or anyone else that truly would have appreciated it instead of trying to profit from it. That sounds like I hate resellers lol and I don't. I just think that this game is so expensive as it is complete. It's probably out of reach for most people and that really sucks.
As soon as I saw it had the box, I was screaming at my phone "BUY IT!" Thank God you did. What a score.
I wonder to myself how long it was sitting there and people didn't notice the box was in the background. It's so obvious now watching the video but at the time I glazed right over it

We're still in disbelief over this one. I check the price regularly just to see if it's artificially inflated but it only keeps going up. It's crazy!
Congrats on 5000. This is awesome. I can't believe that was there. That is so rare and hard to find. I would keep it, too. Great find, and I got some good finds at the thrift store, too. Box looks in good condition and great video and love the series idea.
Surprisingly, the box is in pretty decent condition and I'm still shocked we found it there. I don't think they know what they had because they have a staff member that clearly looks up the price of every game but he certainly didn't look up this one properly!

Over here, thrift is almost dead to video games too. You have to be really lucky. Pawn is thriving, so there's still that 😉
I think a lot more people are out there constantly and know the sweet time to go, but at the same time now everybody knows the value of a video game so instead of donating it they take it to the pawn shop. I'm more than happy to support my local pawn shops. Most of the thrift stores are big chains and I'd rather support locally owned businesses
You caught VV slippin’ 100% great grab and I’m still in the pawn train because I follow PP on FB, that place is a collector’s paradise!
Catching VV slipping is almost impossible and I'm still thinking pawn is going to win out on this one because PP constantly has great deals and we have a few other pawn shops in the area that are equally as good.
Nice find at the thrift store, that's probably my favorite 2D Mario game. The pawn shop in my area is pretty sweet, get great deals there all the time

Yeah it goes for that complete as it was a pack in with the system so there are plenty loose but bugger all boxed complete.
It's just insane to me how much a piece of cardboard is worth!

Excellent start to the series. I thought thrifting was dead too. I am lucky if I find call of duty at a thrift store. I think I remember you saying pawn shops in Canada are very different from America. There are no pawn shops by me so I cannot compare.
Oh, I fully expect pawn to win, but I'm happy thrift got a really good one. I don't know about all pawn shops in Canada, but in Moncton we are very lucky! Not only do most stores price slightly below price charting, but their trade value is insane! If memory serves me correctly if you're trading towards another game you get 70% of your trade value 50 if you're looking for cash
I sold a cib copy last year for $700 that I picked up for $50 with a bundle of games! So, yes, the price is legit! Congrats on the score!
Wow that's crazy!! We had no idea and I honestly thought it was just one game that sold for a crazy amount that was probably graded. Pretty stoked we have it in our collection and eventually Alex will have it in his collection ❤️

I can't believe we almost walked away from it too not realizing how friggin rare it was. I used to keep the area pretty clean in the middle for our son to play but he couldn't really be bothered. You're right, It's the absolute best secret little spot. I would have played in there all day when I was a kid

This was a really fun video! That's so cool you found a boxed Super Mario World. I don't think I've ever seen one. I rarely see anything gaming related worth buying at the thrift store anymore. Back in 2010, I was the best place ever to pick up retro games. Now it's a barren wasteland. I can't wait to see more of these videos! Congrats on the 5K subs too
Yeah it's not one we've ever seen before either and had no idea of its rarity. I wish I could have participated in game collecting back in the early 2000's but at the time it wasn't on our radar.

What a find in the end. The price has kinda gone a bit mad for the European version too - one recently sold for £500+ on ebay. Crazy! Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Yeah it's been pretty crazy with the increase on this one. So I did a deep dive and checked out the historic price chart in price charting and this one was under $150 Canadian in March 2020..... So you see what happened right?. Not even a year and a half later it had gone up to $650. It's madness!!!

Absolutely amazing find! I wouldn’t sell it either. Too cool of a story to part with it just for money…unless hard times hit. I know a few things about thrifting from the past few years. There is no key time to go exactly but you have to go a lot. Like every day or even multiple times a day. And certain stores/chains always have better inventory. Pawns though are slim in my area. Sounds like this will be a cool series. 🍻🤙🏻
I'm still really shocked that we were able to find that and even more shock that we almost walked away, not knowing what it was. There's always the option that if we fell on hard times absolutely the game collection would get hit first. That's at least a little reassuring knowing we have a safety net if we need to use it. I wish I loved the hunt and while I enjoy it, you know maybe once a month really get out there every day sounds like a job. Probably why we don't have huge success all the time. It totally makes sense.

You know what in general terms for most merchandise, I would absolutely agree with you on salvation army in our area but for some reason they keep their games behind a glass case and oftentimes they are double price charting. Value village isn't much better but the few times we have found deals it's been at Value village.

Thrift stores are more like valued village salvation army. So essentially yes charity shops. Places where you would make donations and then they would sell them. Pawn shops you basically go in and you trade stuff in for money or other items in the pawn shop or you take the money with the intent on paying it back within the time frame so that you can recuperate your items. But there's always a fee associated with that as well.
Yeah we have a crazy amount of storage space and we've been in this house 14 years. We've talked a time or two about selling now that my daycare's done and we don't have to be right in the city but at the same time, Damn, I don't know how we'll find something else like this!
You feel very free to steal any ideas you see. My favorite part about TH-cam videos is seeing everybody set up as well. It's great inspiration and also love seeing everyone's physical games.
So I just looked it up and Super Mario World complete would go for close to $500 GBP. Every time I look at it it just keeps climbing. It's crazy!
We really loved making this video and I wish we loved hunting more. It's more of a weekend fun thing to do but if I had to do it every day I would cry cuz I just want to play my games 🤣🤣🤣

I've never disliked animals but before we got Teddy I was certainly not an animal lover. I always thought animals were great .... In other people's houses. Teddy melted my Grinch heart and I love him so incredibly much!

I have much better luck at Yard Sales still.
I also have a stack of booklets, as well as empty covers, inserts and more odds and ends o complete loose or otherwise incomplete finds.

This was fun! And you're absolutely right: I'm in Montreal and thrift store barely have anything video game related and when they do it's ridiculously overpriced! Which is why I just stopped to go there! But even our pawn shops are not that great. I get better prices from online friends in the States that I've met via YT! For around me, the best deals are all online: FB Marketplace, Kijiji, eBay and Amazon. Can't wait to see the next episodes! Great video and keep up the good work!
Yeah, I think our pawn shops being as good as they are here in Moncton is a bit of an anomaly. When we went to PEI they were severely overpriced and we didn't have a whole lot of luck in St. John or Fredericton either. It might be the case of we just didn't know where to go but yeah....
Certainly, if you can trade with friends on TH-cam, that's always going to be great because you know you're getting a working game that's been taken care of and loved by a gamer.
Awesome find! I didn’t know it’s rare to get it in the box either. It is hard to find good stuff at thrift stores though. Maybe 1 out of 20 times I’ll find something worth selling.
Our thrift stores aren't great here either, but we don't frequent them nearly enough. Mind you we've gotten lucky a few times with just walking in randomly, but this one is easily by far the best.

Second I seen the box I would have bought it. One of the odd ones. The game was a pack in so not many of the orginal boxes were bought. You see the players choice one around mostly
It's so obvious now when I look at it on video but at the time I just glazed over it and I was filming without really paying attention to what I was filming. I'm so thankful we went back and got it!

I think i'm missing Super Mario for Snes. I doubt the game in complete is over hundred though but then again last time i checked was like probably over 5 years ago. I think it was around 50€ or something.

At one point, the storage room in our basement was way less full and we used to keep it clean in the middle, especially so that Alex could play in there. He never did.... Which sucked because when I was a kid that would have been the best place to have a spot to play. If I stand between the rafters, I can stand upright, I'm 5'3.
The reason it's so damn expensive is because it came with your Super Nintendo so I kind of wonder if you guys had it packed in with the Super Nintendo as well.

@@RetroRivals i think we had that with some snes consoles but i remember Super Mario All stars coming with the super nintendos my friends had so i would imagine that Super Mario World was also available separately. Not 100% sure of that. I checked from a finnish online store and you can get Super Mario World with instructions for 46€. Maybe the north american version is rarer then.🤔

I bought a few games at Half Price book store and Salvation Army. Originally, i bought games at Hollywood video and Blockbuster but they no longer exist. 😢
We have never had a good score at salvation army so I would love if we could get one with this series. It sucks that there's no more Blockbuster or Hollywood video. More than anything I miss the Friday or Saturday night date night, rent a movie and pick up a pizza. Those were the good old days
@@RetroRivals i got Scud and Virtual On for $5 each at Salvation Army. That was probably 10 years ago. Both are Sega Saturn games. Presently both goes more than $50.
I order from Japan the controller for Virtual On (dual twin stick) that resemble very much like the arcade. I got it for $80. The owner give me a free copy of Virtual On (Japanese import). Oh, he gave me that big box covering the twin dual stick which is quite hard to get. You know paper boards doesn't last that long.
@@RetroRivals In Hollywood video, I bought the Ninja Gaiden trilogy for SNES for $10. That was 2010. I didn't realized that it was rare back then to get that game. I am a fan of Ninja Gaiden on NES. It was a love and hate relationship on that game.

I honestly think it's a me thing because I used to have a daycare and my kids loved to talk to me about video games (because not many adults in their life loved video games as much as they did ) and when I would say it the wrong way they would be very quick to correct me 🤣
Pawn shops suck in the states
Usually guys with thick gold chains, lots of cologne and bad attitudes run them in NY where I live. They act like you are wasting their time. Normally they are playing the most nasty rap music as I walk in, Yo Yo, bang that hoe bee-outch etc.
Yeah I hear that from a lot of people that's why it's always so shocking to me because the pawn shop that's closest to our house constantly has amazing deals under price charting.
