After looking through over a dozen videos I finally found your video that shows exactly what my refrigerator is doing (I have a Kenmore Elite 71053). Thank you Jim for the great explanation and information. Kenmore Elite is made by LG so this issue may very well apply to some of their models...
I believe this is the problem with my Frigidaire refrigerator. The knocking sound is exactly the one heard in this video. However, my fridge has been in the same spot for about 3 months now, and the noise hasn’t abated. It seems to occur whenever the refrigerator motor starts, and may last as long as 10-15 seconds. And ideas about what is happening and what I need to do about it? DO you think there may be permanent damage to the linear compressor?
Have exactly the same problem, it makes it several times a day for about 3 to 10 seconds then it stops but it loud clanking sound, please let me know if you fixed it.
THat's the same sound of my GE refrigerator. i really dont know how ot fix it. does anything have to do with unbalance floor or surface? i really hae that problem until now. it started when I relocate the the fridge after that I can hear my fridge with that vibrating sound like in your video. How can i fixed it? thank you. please help me.
Does it continue to make this sound periodically? I'm trying to diagnose a bizarre sound I've heard ever since we moved into this house 3 years ago. I always thought it was a cat or something jumping on a trash can just outside my back door but just realized yesterday that the sound seemed like it was in my mud room and the only thing in there is a refrigerator that the previous owners left.
Ditto. Mine makes a faint noise during the cooling cycle and then when it stops, it makes that god awful racket that sounds like the thing just fell out the second floor window and hit the ground. Just went in there and tried to jar it and move it forever and back quickly and heard the loud clankety noise, but went back to the sabretooth tiger purr. As typing this, the cycle stopped and still made that racket. Lord help me.
