Thank you for these series of tutorials, they are very well put together. I have been a long time user of the original Morpheus rack module and although it is a very powerful synthesizer, the limitations of the chip never allowed Dave Rossum's innovative idea to reach its full potential. I bought this filter and have been very pleased with the capability, it is very digital in its sound... and this is what I love about it. There are sound possibilities to be had from this that are in no way possible with analogue designs. The feature of allowing to set a morphing time between filters within a sequence is very well implemented and I recommend this module to anyone looking for something that can greatly expand their sound design explorations.

Thank you for that excellent tutorial, I love my Morpheus

    Thanks for the video!
Did I get that right, the difference between the pause and halt commands is that inc and dec are ignored, but with the pause command, a reset continues through the sequence and with the halt command a reset jumps back to the first step in the sequence?

Thank you for making these vids the Morpheus is so expressive! To use this and it's sequences with a daw you would need a signal sent to the reset input right? So it resets and starts the filter sequences with say abelton live's playback. If so what can one use to send this reset trigger?

Yes, if you wanted to take advantage of a preset sequencer, and have it reset from the same place at the start of a piece. I don't think there is a way a DAW could start from a random position and know how to load the correct preset, unless it could cue and send out pulses for every missed trigger after the top-of-song reset.

Musically, why would someone want to sequence through a series of filters? To me, it would be similar to the meta-sequence mode on Brains - fun to listen to for a little while, but the 'glitchiness' gets tiring quickly. Wouldn't that be a similar effect if you switched between filters?

There are a couple of different reasons. One is to automatically change between setups during a live set (you can always sequence when no sound is going through the filter). Another is to use it as an actual effect: Unlike Braids which switches immediately, Morpheus allows you to set glide or crossfade times for it to go from the current filter to the null to the next filter, which can be used as an evolving, glitch-free sound.

Yeah, good explanations I suppose. It just seems like a lot of panel space for a lessor function. Why couldn't they have just had a jack reading a bipolar CV for DEC and INC functions? I suppose I'll find out as I just ordered one!

My guess is it was based on either user request(s), or a strong conviction they had about what users could do with it. But rather than just speculate, I'll ask Marco at Rossum and share anything useful he might reply.

Hahaha...good idea! Thanks for the followup and kudos on the great video. Might want to let Marco know that you probably sold more than a few of his modules because of it!

Marco says: "It was a combination of all of your guesses. Playing with it during development, it was just so cool for so many things."

Do I need to have PHD to operate this maverick?

    • @LearningModular

No. You can just twist the encoder dial to choose a preset, press the encoder to load a preset, and twist the Frequency, Morph, and Transform knobs (or send it control voltages, as I did in these videos.). And even editing the presets is easy, as you're not editing the arrangement and makeup of the cubes themselves.

I am not hearing unique sounds. I heard all about the menus, however

This is the fourth of four (4/4) movies I did on the Morpheus, and as you can see from the title, this one is all about editing - so yes, lots of menus. If you haven't found the other movies already, here's the playlist (also noted in the Show More section below the movie): th-cam.com/play/PLli7NH8pJF8Ti76Wpfgn6QrGXvuzljDgL.html

The Morpheus seems to digitally clip pretty easily.

    • @LearningModular
      @LearningModular  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah - anything that's highly resonant like that can add gain, which can hit the limits and clip.
