Thanks for the description on the footnote of the video, It helps greatly to know you tested some things and what worked best at the end. I’m just getting the Morpheus and I’m intending to use it with more or less pad’s and complex samples on my beatbox too. I do happen to have the Buchla 281 and 266t, I’ll start right where you left off. Thanks❤
Definitely a unique and timeless module. The biggest challenges I find are the sheer number of filters, making it hard to know where to even start, and controlling the resonance, which quickly turns into distortion or is just generally not usable. There's a lifetime of filtering in here if you have the time, energy and skill to discover it. Looking forward to hearing more from you with it.
Yeah, finding an appropriate filter cube can be tricky. 200 is a lot of personalities to get to know. When you find something good, there is always the temptation to root around for something 'better' which inevitably ruins things.
Great video and homage to the z-Planes. So much fun and the threat of danger if not careful! hahaha FWIW, (1) Morpheus/UltraProteus under the influence of Sean Luke's Edisyn is amazing!; (2) in VCV-Rack, Frequency Domain's Box Of Revelation provides z-Plane filter madness to virtual patches.
nostalgia: The Morpheus was one of the module that made me decide to enter the world of modular! And after all these years, it continues to sound fantastic ! thanks for the video !
Great video, I really love what you did here. By the way, the Morpheus came out in 1993, not the “80s”… it was an underground classic for those who knew and could get their hands on it! Thank you for doing the awesome tribute to the Morpheus, you did the gear justice! ✌🏽
@@CinematicLaboratoryjust found editing software for it so will see how that works. Romplers put me off hardware synths for a decade but there seems to be a reevaluation going on as Alex Ball and Benge have also made videos that are tempting me to get mine out of storage. Still prefer modular and analogue hardware though
It is good to see A Rossum module covered. Morpheus was my second filter and i tend to use it more extensively within the sampling portion of my rack. Some of those presets can be pinged and plucked for some every interesting cello like sounds. Frequency for pitch and morph for the bending of strings. I am forgetting the exact preset at the moment and i have not been able to revisit the patch. Looking forward to more Morpheous videos!
Lovely.. you really made this baby sing. Glad to read your analysis on this.. I picked one up and got rid of it! I did not try running polyphony through it.. only drums it sounded thin... guess Im going to have to pick one up again 😅
Sounds very similar to my first patch experience. I am thankful with my 80's experience with E-mu. It was almost like it tapped me on the shoulder, pointing me to the original module.
I had to let it go because I couldn't read the display and honestly I did not like the 8 x mono sample approach where you'd have to link two channels for a stereo sound. So this is not going to happen unfortunately...
Yep. Wonderful, inspiring device. Notable that it has not been replicated in software.

Control Forge on the way :). So curious!
Really want one of these.
Well worth it in my opinion. Capable of some otherworldly sounds. It greatly transforms any sounds you run through it, especially field recordings.
dave need to come up with a vst version of the morpheus. still miss mine after getting out of euro

thanks for the video !
Couldn't agree more!
Great demo, makes me want to get this filter! Or even dig out my old E-Mu sampler

Rossum modules are all top quality! I’ve got the original Morpheus so this has inspired me to get it out of retirement. I never tried programming it.
I am not sure how that will work on a 2 line screen when the 'big' Morpheus eurorack screen is already confusing :)

Thanks for sharing! Seems there's still a ton of things to discover!

@@CinematicLaboratory very cool. Thanks for sharing your experience. Appreciate what you do
Sounds so pleasant. Want.
Would love to see your thoughts on the Linnaeus too - it hardly got any YT coverage.
The linnaeus is my favorite filter. It's so much fun to use.
I'll keep an eye open for it, but since I need to pay for my gear, no promises I can't keep :).
A fascinating Z world... 😍
@Cinematic Laboratory was the morpheus a keeper in the end?
Well it's still here, and it's not going anywhere. But honestly, this video was the last time I used it.
@@CinematicLaboratory Guess its too good to let go but also too much hassle to patch up.
bibox over assimilator? but assimilator sound is incredible! that pitch shifting..
Too sad the E-MU system we knew are not anymore.
Totally agree...
Do a Assimil8or vid

You’re lovin that Buchla 216e huh ?
*duh.. after I type that u literally said u love it
🤦♂️
Absolutely one of my best decisions so far :)
