@@Greedonlife : Absolutely. There will come a time when security guards will be replaced by Fire and Life Safety Directors. Corporate sites now want less guards and more F & L S D.
Twelve Security Guard Realities 1. Security guards seldom get a salary raise. When they do, it's typically no more than 50 cents every 3 or 4 years. 2. Security guards must wait for a relieve before going home. If your relieve does not show up, you must do another 8 hours. Some companies allow security guards to work 24 hours straight, which is against the law in the United States. 3. Security guards must stand for long periods of time and patrol inner and outer perimeters regardless of weather. 4. Security guards are not respected by the guard company hiring them. 5. The job site determines the rate per hour for security guards. 6. Security guards cannot take their raise in salary at one site to another site if a transfer is requested or not requested. 7. Security guards are often required to join a bogus union that weekly deducts a set amount of money. The union does not protect security guards from termination or legal matters. In other words, the union is there to simply take money from the guards. 8. There are second-rate security guard companies that will require a weekly deduction for uniforms and shoes. 9. The client is always first and correct (even when they are not) over security guards. 10. Security guards are blamed for everything that happens at the job site. It doesn't matter what the situation is, security guards are blamed. The contract between the client and the guard company is more important than the security guards and FSD staff. 11. Security guard medical, vision and dental coverage is a joke in poor taste. Money is weekly deducted for benefits that pay for less than 50% of the total cost. Security guards end up paying most of the bills for medical, dental, and vision. 12. Security guards are a dime a dozen. The requirement to be a security guard does not go beyond a GED or high school diploma in terms of contract security. Guido Feliz
Bruh you just said everything I wanted to say 💯… Started Security 1995 in Yonkers to working at Bell Security … Allied-Barton… Securitas … but no matter how good you are at your job… You Are Always Replaceable… I learned that working for Amex with Securitas for doing my job … but the Client always comes first… so I was changed to a shitty site… Working Security 2009 at a bronx hospital I transferred to housekeeping in 2020 for the 1199 union which is paying for my Turner school for Engineering in the hospital … I keep telling my Security coworkers to get the fuck out of security and get something out of it… Security is always looked down upon … I was messing with a corporate chick from work on the low and she told me they are told not to talk to security because that’s the “ Help” like we off the boat people 🤦♂️… But you said it all Bruh !!!! Much Respect 🍻
Is it worth it for me to get the FLSD license if I only consider Security a side hustle? Im tryna pursue my career as a Graphic Designer and probably get back into school.
If you would waste your time working security, why not earn more while doing it? It’s a bit of a hassle at first but it’s worth the extra $5-$10 per hour. Also, it makes you more marketable. Hope that helps, take care.
I need to stay in contact with you, Next week I will be submitting my gun license to become an armed guard and within that process prep to become FSD🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 this only pushed me more I’m 25 looking to secure myself financially
Amazing!!! I’m so happy for you. I know of so many people who don’t get ahead because they don’t know how. I see you are well on your way to success. Keep your faith in God and your path will become even more clear to you. Thanks for your comment and much success to you in all your future endeavors.
@@Greedonlife I’m one of those and I’m in NYC. When I look these up online these steps sound sold confusing. I’m at month one as a security guard. So I’m new to it. But I want to get a jump on these things now.
The main thing is, your employer needs to give you the letter. It just states that you were employer for whatever amount of time and in the capacity of someone who is responsible for emergency response. If you want to be a FLSD, you have to put in the time. You might get lucky and find an employer willing to sponsor you without the years. If you go to the school and have the COF, you will find an opportunity. When you do watch the prep vids I put together and you will sound like you know what you are talking about.
NYC will only hire active or retired law enforcement for armed security. You probably can get a firearm permit for work only if you can get a job with Armed Car jobs.
Hey it’s been a couple of years since this video released so I hope you still respond. I’m 19 and want to get into security just to have save some cash for a year or two, the ONLY reason. Do you have any hookups for me ?
I don’t work in the field any longer. Only advice I can give you is to try Securitas. Yankees is about to open and they pay decent plus it’s union. It’s not a bad starter gig. One downside is you have to commit to a schedule
@@explosivediarrhea4671 yes I passed courtyard Marriot🙏🙏you were right about the pay not Eva going passed 30 smhhh time 4 hvac school then Florida 😝hey you know any good place to learn hvac in NYC if you hear anything it would be big help your the best bro💯
So in new York you can extra license and possibly get pay 30 dollars a hour and california you no license Past your gun permit and clients with most security companies are cheap 👌
Henry Ross yes there are quite a few additional licenses you can obtain. Also if you must work for a contract security company, FLSD position would be the best.
Fire and Life Safety Directors make no less than $27/hour.
That’s amazing. The video is a bit older, so the compensation available today is slightly higher than it was back then.

Everything this man is talking about is 100% correct!
Museum security guard jobs are far better than contract security companies. A big difference in terms of pay, benefits and professionalism.
Its best to get away from security
I just got my F01. Not staying a guard definitely resonated. When you said "Watch Engineer" ny ears perked up. I'ma look into that. Thanks man
Keep your head up. I think I was a coworker of yours at some point if that is your real name. Stay positive, you will get to where you want to go.
Thank you brother. I’m trying to spread the word to all the brothers out there in the struggle.
I want my FSD
I assumed that position paid min of $28 hr
It can but you need either a hook up or experience.
What is your day like as a Fire and Safety Director? What do you do on a day to day basis?
I have the 8 hour and 16 hour certificate in 2013. Is it still valid now? I heard its for life.
Yes. 8 hour pre-assignment and 16 hour on the job training certificates are one-off. However, you have to do 8 hour annual certification every year
i got my FLSD, security license,
How you got that license can w describe please??
Being a security guard or fire guard, generally will not qualify you. It’s says it in the flsd book
