Thanks for your insight for becoming a building engineer. I'm actually taking the 32bj classes for engineering wish me luck with the process. listening to your story it gave me motivation to strive for better things in life which my story is a little similar to yours I had to earn everything that I accomplished in life. Appreciate the time you took to make this video. I use to work for 32bj as a security guard in Long Island city for 3 years. Joined the national guard as a medic. Currently deployed overseas. Going to look into Turner when I get back this summer. (I have 0 experience, so ima try to look for an apprenticeship). Really felt that when you said you weren’t given a silver spoon. Hey brother. I’m going to sign up for Turner this October 1st . My friend that’s in local 94 gave me a list of FDNY certs I should get along the way. I have ZERO experience. But I am a prior service vet. So I’m hoping I’ll be able to get my foot in door in local 94. My boy told me got in as a helper starting at 44 an hour. I’m praying I can as well. That’s somewhat true. It’s because you will need experience usually to get in. Best bet is to do an apprenticeship so that you are already in the union. Otherwise, you have to work your way up through the hotels and small buildings first then you can qualify after 5 years or so for 94 commercial jobs

As far as experience, even if it's part time, try working with tools, at an hvac company or a handyman company. If you can work with a building super , do it. Even the 32bj classes count as some experience. Get atleast like 6 months under your belt. This is a real political industry and nothing will come easy. That’s true. All I can say is there are more jobs than qualified people for them. So with that being said, at this point it’s about selling yourself. You have to convince them that you would be suitable for the position. Apply to any position that is considered maintenance or engineering. Also, that generally means any kind of handyman type of positions. Hope that helps brother. Stay positive and you’ll make it.
