Tim Cone is a class act. Years ago, when Alaska was at its peak, I was part of a softball league in the Philippines, where Tim played on the opposing team. While running to third base, I cramped up really bad, and fell to the ground.Tim was the first one to my side and helped stretch it out until it subsided. I’ll never forget his genuine concern and kindness. Every interaction we had, he came across as just one of the guys.
CTC is one of the great things that happened in Philippine basketball. I'm a Sunkist/Vergel Meneses fan back then and was hurt that they didn't get the grandslam because of Alaska (and Alaska went on to win grandslam). That's when I started to be amazed on how CTC made Alaska (and his teams) always competitive and feel that they would win the championships. It's enforcing a system and discipline to players. Salute and thanks CTC!

There are so many quotable quotes in this interview, but here’s something we can all apply in whatever field we’re in: 1:24:46 “It’s all about preparation. It’s not about prepping for the (big) game. It’s the day to day to day to day prep every day. That’s the true preparation.” - Coach Tim Cone
THANK YOU for not splitting this interview into two parts! 2 hours + seems still not enough. Love listening to Coach Tim's stories. Thank you guys for doing this.
@@DaredeviLabs .. Joe's audio comes in a bit muffled. Maybe because he had his mic under his shirt, under his Ginebra jersey. C'mon Joe, you're better than that .. HA! LOL ✌
This is a great show guys. Its really nice to get in the brains of the great Tim Cone. Now I just can't stop thinking what if Gabe played for CTC. must've been great for both.
Gabe right now has established himself as a legend but had Gabe been given a chance to be with Cone, I think he'd be like how Justin was when he first came in and what he is now as a top notch complete player. Gabe's talent could've been tapped so much deeper if he were under a coach like Tim.
As a Ginebra fan, I've watched many CTC interviews, but this one is the best I've ever seen. I know JD et al are great at goofing around with fellow players, but I was genuinely intrigued how they'd handle THE winningest coach. And they absolutely smashed it out of the park! Special shout to Sol whose comedic timing is just impeccable (that "shots fired!" moment when he was comparing CTC's ability to do in-the-heat play adjustments vs other coaches made me shriek in laughter), but who also made me bawl like a baby when he paid tribute to CTC. Also, there's no better interview than ones where you see the interviewee is really enjoying himself. Whether it be technical gameplay topics to just transporting CTC back to his awkward younger days when he had to ask his recent date for the number of the eventual love of his life, the guys gave us a rare glimpse into who CTC really is beyond his famous self-effacing, gentlemanly, and gracious deference to his team, fans, and even opponents. Also, ALSO... an astronomer geek who wanted to be a novelist but eventually became a lifelong mentor for generations of basketball PH players-- with all due respect to CTC and his family, but GOD, that is sooooo crushable. 🙈 And his sharp social commentary on the numbing of Filipinos re: the wealth gap was stunningly unexpected and self-aware, given the playful question it answered. Fascinating podcast episode as always, guys! My only nitpick would probably be how some of the subbed lines tend to translate English colloquialisms too literally. That said, it doesn't change how profoundly grateful we are that you guys are exerting this amount of effort to ensure PH basketball fans from all walks of life can enjoy what you do. Keep up the good work, boys! 🙏
Wow! Thank you for the kind words of the show. We really are grateful to have supporters like you. It makes our job so much fun when we get to read comments like this.
Been an Alaska fan since Dondon Ampalayo days...I was devastated when Coach Tim left... Hats off to you Coach Tim, wala akong masabe. Thank you so much for all you have done to Philippine Basketball... Thanks Team Let it Fly Podcast!
Whoever did the Tagalog subtitles for this 2-hour episode should be given a raise. If I have to guess, Tin Gamboa might be the one who transcribed this. Amazing! 💯👌
Very nice story from Coach Tim. I hope the Philippines constitution can naturalized or make foreigners automatically a dual citizen if they were born here or have lived for so many many years
i have been a purefoods fan ever since they got to the league in 88 or 89. from being the nightmare of alvin patrimonio, to the winning years of james yap.thanks coach tim. thanks for this wonderful podcast. biggest take away is being a servant leader.
A 2 and a half hour podcast interview with CTC on the best basketball podcast show in the Philippines is sooo fun to watch! Yall bring good vibes as always 😊
I’ve always admired Tim Cone not just as a coach, but as a person. I think he’s an amazing human being whose great leadership qualities make you want to: a. be better at what you do; b. maximize your potential; and c. achieve success AND STILL BE HUMBLE. ◡̈ Great episode. You guys rock! 😎
Coach Tim has always been accommodating to virtually anyone when it comes to interviews. He just loves to talk anything about life & basketball. I remember back in 1994, as a 16-yr old Alaska fan, I was able to have a brief chit-chat with coach. It was an out of town preseason exhibition game between Alaska & Purefoods in Cebu City. Prior to the start of the game, Coach Cone was in the hallway all by himself looking out the window. People wanted to approach him but were a little hesitant because, you know, English. hahaha. But I did. I had to have his autograph on my Alaska cap. I was wearing a Jojo Lastimosa jersey with the Alaska cap on and it made him smile. I'll never forget the thing he said to me that time: "I appreciate you as an Alaska fan because we only have a few right now. But stay tuned. We got something big in store for you this season." Indeed, the Milkmen returned to championship glory that year, winning the 1994 Gov's Cup which marked the beginning of the 90's dynasty. What an amazing coach but more importantly an even better person. The blessings he has received in his legendary PBA career over the years couldn't have happened to a better human being. ☝🐐
Thank you for this interview. I am based overseas coaching and has become a fan of Coach Tim. Been a part of Alaska before he left. I learned a lot about the culture even as an understudy/volunteer through Master Gus. An experience I will always be grateful.
Great Podcast. Learned a lot of new things about coach Tim. Coach Tim deserves another Gilas Pilipinas head coaching stint. Hope Sir. RSA will convince him to lead the national team again this coming FIBA OQT.
CTC's explanation with regards to live audience of PBA is on point. Can I have your take on this @LetitFly_Podcast?
great show guys! I hope the list of guests keep rolling and more podcasts! Such a learning experience and an inspiration knowing stories from great coaches and players too. God Bless!
Just to add how great coach Tim is not just a coach, but as a person. I've met him quite a few times in games (not Ginebra games), But whenever fans would request to take pictres wold him, he would really take time to entertain and do his best to accomodate all of them, it's crazy! #GOAT

However, we have our ACES, servant leadership, humility and he hospitality.... These might be our saving graces. LET'S DO IT COACH.
Dude, Sol Mercado's defense is a beauty to watch. And as for coach Chot, that was really sad, but I'm happy that he was still part of that Asian games championship in that way. I really wish these know-it-alls would just shut their pie holes and stop thinking that they know better than a multi-titled coach. And I know I can wish as hard as I could but that's that. Coach Tim, so generous with everything. I still don't understand the triangle, but it's great to hear from him and all and just amazing stories all around.
So much take in this interview. The details, man. Ung laro lang sa tv ang napapanood namin pero iba pa ang nangyayari sa practice at iba rin ang nangyayari besides basketball. If could pick one take here? Its really the chemistry in all aspects. On court, in practices and in your relationship with your team outside basketball.
I love your podcast, I don't mind the long interviews because it makes it complete. More power to your show. I love that it's mainly Ginebra boys hosting. I like Gabe, he's a great guy. But I'm NSD for life. Hope you get to interview Coach Yeng, and have his famous Coach Yeng stories with him there while you talk about it. That will surely be a blast.
We need more from Tim Cone. Can he be a guest again? We want to see what he thinks the next future Filipino players and young gilas players like the U16-18. Lo and behold, he said gabe haha and I followed coach tim enough to know that the answer is genuine. It was at that same degree as when JD first came to ginebra, I remember coach tim bared in an interview that he pursued JD for many years prior to him getting picked up by ginebra in free agency

I hope PBA would try to travel around the Philippines and allow other provinces to watch them play live. It maybe costly but I hope they'd try by tying up with the LGUs. It's been so long that they've been playing only here in Metro Manila.
When I was growing up in the Philippines in the 90's, I was a huge fan of Ginebra. I didn't really like Alaska because they always seemed to win games effortlessly, making basketball look so easy. The Alaska team back then was solid, with players like Johnny A, Jolas, Cariaso, Bong Hawkins, Poch Juinio, Chambers, Bolado, Ramas, and Castelo. Despite Coach Tim Cone being American by blood and nationality, his prompt response to a question regarding his dislikes about the Philippines demonstrates his Filipino heart. He is not only an exceptional coach and leader but also a remarkable human being. By the way, I just stumbled upon your channel for the first time. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch you all play in the PBA because I moved to the States. Nevertheless, I'm grateful that you have this show, and I'm excited to subscribe and watch more episodes. Thank you gentlemen and God bless. 🙏
