Absolutely, and often they'd pay for their own tools, candles and even work for no reward driving the level if the vein wasn't struck... We live in fortunate times!

The lower Adit is called Jenny's Adit. The Crown forced the mine owners to drive it in underneath to drain the upper workings but it only succeeded in making them go bust. The mine was a copper mine although they did find gold every now and then. The 'slit' where the miners removed the vein is called a stope, the slit in the field is a trench where they were looking for the vein. Ex Welsh gold miner.
Meiron Thomas thanks - very useful info re Crown forcing them to drive it! I obviously know what an open stope is but the 'slit' was rather unusual opening right up onto the stream. Now you'll have to forgive me as I'm torn whether I can keep your comment on as I get a lot of aggravation from mine owners if locations are mentioned. So if you could amend it not to mention the name that would be great. Diolch yn fawr.
@Milda Goes Wild Are these Adits located on a Map or researched by you Milda. For such a long straight adit,shaft to lead nowhere. Could it be reworked again
