  • I examine and review the Mightymouse Gen 5+ catch can / oil separator. The new Gen 5+ has a new super centre piece that changes the direction of airflow. It is also self regulating in that it takes the place of the PCV valve and regulates air flow. I found the Mightymouse tool to be of great benefit for removing the top part of the catch can.

      This can is a really good design, and like I said in the video, the quality is really good. The machining and finishing are superb. I'm glad you liked my maple leaf transition, had to put a bit of Canada in that and glad you caught it!!!! I will have the instal vid out in a few weeks. Thanks for the comment :)

    Solid vid, product seems good. Curious to see if that much mesh is really required, as even though it's mesh it still takes up significant volume inside the can.

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was surprised at the amount of mesh as well. The bottom of the can is separate from the mesh, maybe 1/4" so the oil can pool there, but its not a lot of space and would require you to empty the can every time you get gas. I empty mine all the time so its not an issue. I have been in touch with the owner of the company and he is a stand up guy. When going back and forth with him about design, he put a lot of thought (and time) into the design so I assume it's beneficial to it.

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to install it first LOL :) I should be installing it in the next week or so, so the install vid should be out end of this month/early next month by the time its edited and uploaded. I think the quality is fabulous, really I have no complaints. The machining and finish are superb. I think it should perform well. If you need anything else just let me know :)

      Except they could have designed the top to use a standard wrench !

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WinnTeam I agree, but the only thing is that breather gets pushed onto the top, so the top has to stay round. I do wish there was a way for that, but not sure how they would incorporate flat spots for a wrench, unless they made the top a little taller. That would probably work. Thanks for the comment brother !!

    This catch can for petrol car just wondering my car is diesel vw what can I use and it will increase hp

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This catch cans is for petro cars. On the diesel you need a special one if you get one. They help to keep the engine valves clean so. For more horsepower on a diesel easiest way is probably to tune the computer if it is a newer one but the problem is more horsepower = more gas so it’s a trade off.

    Hey, I have a Gen 5 Wild, and I’m venting off both my valve covers with a 12AN hose. I’m trying to reduce the amount of smoke coming out of my catch can and through my hood, but I’m not exactly sure what I need. Mighty Mouse support sent me the conversion for the Gen 5 Plus, but it looks like it doesn’t utilize venting from both valve covers.
    What do you think I need? I also noticed that I don’t have the one-way valve in the breather. Could that be the issue?

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      HI There, you should have a one way valve in the breather if you have a newer computer controlled engine as the air is metered. If you are running a lot of boost on your car you may just be exceeding the capacity of your system. On most stock engines you actually don't vent much. Venting from both valve covers you must be under a lot of boost and driving hard as that would produce a lot of blow by.

  • @cody11601
    @cody11601 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is this the same design you compared on your new car a while back when you got a lot of oil in the supercharger? I think you compared it to the elite engineering ultra

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the MM can that was used on the Z06. The Ultra was tested on the Tacoma, the Ultra was never on the Z06.

  • @BLAC_WORX

    Arent both of those inlets? isnt the breather is the outlet?

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there, no only one is the inlet. Take a look at 4:45min mark, I show them really clear there. Inlet and Outlet are very different.

    • @BLAC_WORX
      @BLAC_WORX ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GarageKing gotcha, I must be looking at a different system. I was going to run a -10 hose from each of the valve covers into the catch can and no 'return'.

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BLAC_WORX Thanks for the follow up. Its always good to run a return to the intake from the catch can so you have vacuum on the system. If you look at high horsepower engines they even have vacuum pumps on them. AN-10 is a good size hose (pretty much 1/2") but I would make sure you have vacuum on the system to clear it of blowby. Some people just run breathers and no vacuum, but then the only way your blowby is coming out is when you have pressure in the system. Not sure if I'm understanding you right, and I could be wrong in my interpretation of your comment, and perhaps you have a vacuum source on the crankcase.

  • @logicalguy488
    @logicalguy488 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is too funny to be true. Mighty Mouse takes something dead basic and complicates the hell out of it then charges big bucks for it. Your standard vehicle has a hose that redirects the crank case pressure back into the engine to be re-burned so to speak. The idea of a " catch can " is exactly that, the crank case vented fumes and particles pass through above a can which catches the droplets and it falls into the can. A hollow can with a wad of stainless steel wool from Walmart will do the trick. This is like putting lipstick on a pig and calling it something else. JLT Performance make a great one with factory type fittings and a bracket for half the price.

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment, you are right about a lot of things. Not sure if a hollowed out can with stainless steel will do.... You need to redirect the airflow to create a pressure drop. The JLT does this by hollowing out two cavities in the lid to force the air around. The New mightymouse tries to accomplish the same thing. Without getting too technical, you want to create the biggest flow distance from the inlet and outlet. I'm currently doing some back to back testing, th-cam.com/video/waIz0vfefPY/w-d-xo.html and will be posting the results. Its actually quite interesting, and the factory for the most part has done a great job, but with the new direct injected engines its even more important to try to keep them clean. Thanks for the comment, and if you have any questions please let me know. I have read a few engineering papers and SAE articles regarding catch cans. Thanks for the comment

    How do you drain it?🤷‍♂️

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Thanks for the comment brother. I actually take it out to drain it as I don't want it dripping all over the car. That's why when I installed it I used quick connects. You can see in my install vid that the quick connects allow it to be taken in and out very quickly. See video th-cam.com/video/ZGP52F-Qf80/w-d-xo.html If you have any other questions just let me know.

    Would you be willing to conduct a test between the latest MM and another design? Place the other design in series AFTER the MM can so it only gets the vapors AFTER they pass the MM and run 1000-2000 miles and then drain both and document, then clean both of all oil and reverse the order placing the other design first and the MM second and drive the same miles and same driving style and document what each caught? This is the only fair and accurate way to test effectiveness. Let me know and email me at: APDEG@aol.com and will provide the other design at no cost if your willing to devote the time and document all accurately. Thx!

      Thanks for reaching out to me, I have sent an email to you.

    • @LoneWolfSnowplowing
      @LoneWolfSnowplowing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s certainly NOT “the only fair and accurate way to test effectiveness.” Off the top of my head I can point out that the can’s ability to vent crank case pressure during a WOT situation would need to be measured. The can is more than an air/oil separator. Proper vent and proper pressure differential would need to be weighed.
