I have to admit, of all the live synthwave performances I've watched Michael Oakley has probably the best performance voice. Although The Midnight and FM-84/Ollie Wride have excellent songs, the the live performances seem a little too excited and they end up over doing their voice. Michael Oakley does a really good job of focusing on performing as true to his mastered song as possible.
I've seen all 3 live and I agree, Michael Oakley mostly sticks to his studio versions with a few unique riffs. Ollie is the best and is mesmerizing with different takes with his songs. I feel The Midnight looses it at times since a lot of their songs are crowd pleasers and you end up them trying to be louder than the audience.

Y'all are crazy. The Midnight are fantastic. Saw them at Fortune Sound (smaller venue) in Vancouver in 2018. They knocked it out of the park. Michael Oakley is superb though, in other news.

We desperately needed non-smartphone captioned audio of synthwave performed live. Seriously most smartphone users don't understand how to frame something, nor do they understand that their phones just aren't made to capture anything, be it sound or image. Especially those people who still insist on capturing video vertically...seriously...
