    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    The boys finally come face to face with the dead body.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    Based on the Stephen King short story The Body, Rob Reiner's easygoing nostalgia piece is set in Castle Rock, OR, over Labor Day weekend, 1959. A quartet of boys, inseparable friends all, set out in search of a dead body that one of the boys overhears his brother talking about. The foursome consists of intellectual Gordie (Wil Wheaton), born leader Chris (River Phoenix), emotionally disturbed Teddy (Corey Feldman), and chubby hanger-on Vern (Jerry O'Connell). The boys' adventures en route to the elusive body are colored by the personal pressures brought to bear on all of them by the adult world. Richard Dreyfuss, playing the grown-up Gordie, narrates the film, while Kiefer Sutherland dominates every scene he's in as a brutish high-school bully.

    • @patriot4780
      @patriot4780 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@Zkex it is probably better than some of the movies today, if we are being completely honest. I love the compassion that Chris shows for his best friend Gordie! I think Gordie was still carrying a burden of guilt about his brother even though his death in the jeep accident was no fault of Gordie’s. Denny was the only person in their family that cared about him and it showed in the cameos of the brothers. We never hear them say that they love each other, but their love is clear in the brief moments that are shown in the movie. I believe that if they had lost both of their parents but still had each other, Gordie would have been okay, because his brother had his back.
      The way it happened though, he spent the weekend hiking with his friends, but especially with Chris, opened up a wound that had been festering ever since his brother passed away, and I also believe that his best friend being there with him when he needed to cry helped him a lot. Remember that at the end of the movie, Gordie actually looked happy as he waved goodbye to Chris. I think a heavy burden was lifted from his shoulders when he cried on Chris’s shoulder. I can imagine that the boys would have exchanged a hug and Gordie would have said something like “Thank You so much Chris! You don’t know how much better I feel now” if Ace and his gang hadn’t shown up.
      Remember that toward the beginning of the movie, the adult Gordie said “Chris Chambers was the leader of our gang and my best friend”.

    Powerful scene. Not only did it literally depict death, but it symbolized the end of our heroes’ childhood.

    • @flightofthebumblebee9529
      @flightofthebumblebee9529 ปีที่แล้ว +55

      The saddest part to me was how Gordy explains that once they began highschool they saw less and less of Teddy and Vern until they became 2 more faces passing by in the hallway. That part is so sad because we all have friends we loved alot at that age then a year later they're gone from our life.

    • @02mjan
      @02mjan ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@flightofthebumblebee9529 you can't blame Chris and Gordie. To tell you the truth, they outgrew Vern and Teddy who I actually find emotionally immature in that age. Teddy is filled with angst concerning his father's mental illness, which is sad especially when Milo called his dad a loonie and he had a good cry after. But the way Vern and Teddy discussed things is waaaaay too mundane compared to how Chris and Gordie were able to talk about real things, such as betrayal and grief. They understood one another. Chris had the emotional maturity to understand Gordie in this particular scene and was mature enough to comfort. There were a lot of scenes in which Chris was mature enough to call out Gordie, but this particular scene is the cherry on top for me. It's no surprise that they would outgrow Vern and Teddy.

    • @flightofthebumblebee9529
      @flightofthebumblebee9529 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@02mjan it's still sad though.. it goes back to the line he types right as he is finishing. "I will never have any friends in life like the ones I had when I was 12. Jesus, does anyone?"
      This film meant a LOT to me from like kindergarten to like 3rd grade. I actually made me appreciate the friendships I had even more. I still have one friend I see semi regularly from elementary school and I am 40 now. The rest are gone. (some even deceased). Life goes by so fast.

    • @Kevin_Forde
      @Kevin_Forde 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is a sad fact of life that so much changes when childhood comes to an end. Some of our friends are inevitably going to drift away and there is very little if anything that we can do about it. Perhaps it seems like a mundane thing, but there were friends I had and I don't think that I was ever in their house again. 😐😔

    • @obabas80
      @obabas80 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      6 years later! Not mundane at all, it's just stopping to smell the roses as they say. Keep pushing and take all of those good memories of friends gone by and let them fuel you for a brighter future!@@Kevin_Forde

    My English teacher played this movie in class when I was in tenth grade. I did not speak much English back then (immigrant) so I did not fully understand the dialogues. But somehow I felt like I understood the movie. I did not know what I understood, but there was a feeling that kept with me every since I watched this.
    This is the one scene that personally shocked me the most. I remember thinking no matter what happened later on in life, these four boys will always try to keep going. Because the summer when they found the dead body of a boy their age, they found some sort of reality and respect.
    What a great movie, i really appreciate my teacher showing me this back in high school.

    Watching this part is not easy. A few months ago on a beautiful Sunday sunny Vegas afternoon, a bunch of buddies and I decided to hop on our streetbikes and go for a ride. Unfortunately, one of friends (Robert) took a turn way to fast and smashed into a guard rail and died on impact in front of us. The impact was so forceful that his helmet even came off his head (his helmet was securely strapped) and when he flew into mid air and smashed his head into the hot pavement, there was no chance for him to live. But watching helplessly as he bled out, laying there, still and watching the color of his skin change rapidly from his golden sun tan to a gray pale-ish color...ugh. He looked just like this kid. I shut my eyes just looking at this scene because it was a total reminder on what Robert looked like. Just dead. It was the most craziest thing that God Himself has ever let me see.

    The most haunting part for me was how Ray actually got hit by the train. Because to be logical, kids around that age can be considerably smart enough to know how to avoid a train on the tracks. But in a way that mystery helped me to appreciate how realistic this crucial scene is. All that mattered for the early-teen heroes was the completion of their journey and how it made their story so unforgettable for us all. A lovely classic.

    River Phoenix died at the nightclub The Viper Room, then owned by Johnny Depp.
    He had just bought speedballs off a friend. Which is a mixture of heroin and cocaine, very popular in the 80's and 90's.
    He was in the bathroom and had sniffed a hit straight from the bag and ended up getting much more than he had intended.
    Immediately after sniffing it, River said "Ohhhh, tooo much!!"
    About 10-15 minutes later he was outside with friends having a cigarette. According to friends/witnesses, he very quickly became pale and started sweating a lot. A couple minutes later he collapsed right there on the sidewalk.
    He was rushed to the ER by ambulance, but unfortunately died shortly after. RIP River Phoenix

      Except that you dont "sniff" speedballs, you inject them, and most dealers dont premix it, they just sell you a little baggie of heroin and one of coke. You mix it yourself with water, and then inject it-that way you can choose how much of each drug you put in your shot. I know people who'd use all the heroin but only half the baggie of coke, ect. Ive never in life seen anyone "snort" a speedball.

    He needed to see him to understand what happened to his brother.
    The kid wasn't sleeping, he wasn't sick, he was dead.

    In the book this actually takes place in Maine and the Royal River was something mentioned in many of Stephen King's novels including in the movie Shawshank.

      Go figure. Only, like, one of Stephen King's books takes place anywhere besides Maine.

    I remember watching this movie as a 8 year old, my parent thought that you only saw the foot, but when I saw the whole body. It definitely scarred me for life.

    There's something I always wondered about. What was he doing out there so far away from town? If the train had hit him at nighttime without seeing him, why had he wandered so far away for such a long time? Did he get lost? Or was he running away? Did he just want to get out of that town like Chris did?

      As a kid of the eighties I had so much freedom to explore sometimes when my friends weren’t in I’d cycle out to places far from home. There was a freedom as a kid that doesn’t exist anymore

    The thing that hurts the most is every movie has a backstory that created it.. love you always and forever and a day ... but not without a lifetime. You'll always be the the whole world and everything inside
