Timeless. One of the greatest movies of all time. I often wonder how many other amazing performances River Phoenix would have been turning out nowadays.
@@melanistar I actually remember reading something years ago where Leo DiCaprio said he’d always lose out on roles to River. Don’t know for sure if this is a fact, but I believe River was an original pick for The Basketball Diaries, due to him being a fan of the book, and that it went to Leo after River died. Not only that, I also read that James Cameron had River in mind to be the lead in Titanic when he originally conceptualized the idea for the movie years before he started production. So in reality, DiCaprio’s career is only his career because of River Phoenix’s passing, which is mind blowing to think.
@@RINI329 i mean im sure Leo would have still done well but probably not the same career he had bc river passed. I think you are right about Basketball Diaries. I have read quite a few biographies about both actors (being a female slightly younger, I had huge crushes on both growing up) River was also cast in Interview with a Vampire, and that role ended up going to Christian Slater.
This movie really embodies most young boy's friendships with each other. Something special that just can't be explained. Fantastic storytelling. RIP River Phoenix.
River was so unique, he had a mix of so many amazing qualities. From what I’ve seen in his interviews, read about him and perceived from his movies, he was a rare soul. Smart, funny, handsome, creative, eloquent, humble, caring, very self aware, crazy talented; he had it all. I wish he were still alive.
I agree. I feel as though every male watching River's performance could see him as the boy you wish was your friend, or that you wanted to be like. Despite the details of his character being portrayed as a trouble maker and not academic, I bet we all wish we had his confidence. He looked very grounded for his age, a natural leader.
This movie is timeless, iconic, hilarious, meaningful, and beautiful. The acting is so amazing Wil , Cory, River, jerry, all of them have made a movie that will never be forgotten. I just wish River was here to see how truly treasured this film is, but I’m sure he’s looking down and smiling.
This has been my favourite movie since I was a child. Same with my brother, we bonded over this movie growing up. I now have a two month old baby boy named River. Rip River Phoenix 💖
I’m so happy that they released this interview. How awesome especially not only for 35 years of this movie but Rivers birthday is the 23 of this month so he would have been 51. Great memories! R.I.P. River you are truly missed after all these years! 😢❤️
River Phoenix was extra, you even get a sense of that here. Huge loss for cinema when he died. His performance in My Own Private Idaho is a masterclass.
Stephen King has been blessed with a talent for writing good childhood friendship stories. This movie of course, and “It”. It’s also nice to see that the kids in this movie genuinely cared about each other, and that is especially the case with Wil Wheaton and River Phoenix. It’s heartwarming and at the same time, kind of sad to hear Wil talk about how he genuinely ( brotherly ) loved River Phoenix. He didn’t say it in this video, but I heard it in another one.
This movie was my childhood! I tell anyone who asks that the movie is exactly how it was back then! As I watched I was suddenly with my neighborhood friends playing in the park…having a blast! The music playing in the background was perfect! I heard the song Lollipop and I had a flashback of that song playing on the radio as I was on my way to school! I actually remembered the day it played, and who I was with….see what music does! I will remember where I was, and who I was with when I hear certain songs! My favorite movie of all time….and yes I am a babbling old lady of 76 now, but had to share! 🤗
This movie makes me feel some kind of way each time I watch it. And I’m sure so many others will feel it. It’s such a nostalgic feeling that we can’t explain.
It's the summer of 1959 in Castlerock, Maine and four 12 year-old boys - Gordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern - are fast friends. After learning of the general location of the body of a local boy who has been missing for several days, they set off into woods to see it. Along the way, they learn about themselves, the meaning of friendship and the need to stand up for what is right.
Jerry o’ Connell seem like a really cool kid back then when he was talking about how nice his cast members were to him. It’s like- he wasn’t all that different from his character vern. R.I.P River Phoenix , Left this earth way too soon while your acting was way ahead of your time. ✌🏽🕊💯
River was definitely like an older brother to them all in the movie and took care of them all in my opinion and just in general, wish he was still here 😢
To whomever you are, thank you for finally uploading the full version of this interview! This is such a beautiful way to remember River, with his upcoming 51st birthday (August 23rd). ❤
This movie really makes me think of the adventures I had as a kid around that age. I think about those years every single day. I had no idea just how much I was going to miss it.
River was like the big brother of all 4.He played his character awesomely and so did Wil,Corey, and Jerry. This film will never get old it's timeless. R.I.P River Phoenix you'll never be forgotten.
Growing up with a troubled past, River, as he got older, displayed a heart of gold. His acting abilities were unsurpassed as a child actor. His acting abilities would have gone a long way. How ironic it was when his character faded away at the end of Stand by Me. It is a timeless classic movie that most of us can relate to growing up as kids. They were best buddies to the end. This movie will never be forgotten, nor will River Phoenix. R.I.P. my friend.
何話しているか全然わからないけれど、どの子もイケメンに育っててほっこりした。 いつか三人で集まって対談してほしいです。 I couldn't understand what they were talking about at all, but I was so relieved to see how handsome all of them grew up to be. I'd like to see the three of them (except River) get together for a dialogue sometime.
Being a kid is the best time of your life to always remember and stand by me is a great memory lane when we were kids great movie great actors rip river
This embodies the life of all those kids that grew up in 60s and 70s....touches one in one way or other....classic and eternal that one can become a kid once again, over n over watching it...
All the boys were amazing in this film. Couldn't have gotten anyone better. Watch the interview both makes me very happy, because there aren't that many interviews with River from when he was younger. But also very sad knowing he was taken so soon. I just know he'd be going great things right now if he was alive x
River had such a Bright Future ahead of him with Acting and Music. Just how he speaks here at Only 16 years old Shows he was an Old Soul here to Bless The World.
This movie embodies youth... I felt a kinship to it, I was their age in the seventies and my friends and I were just like them! Brilliant movie, memories abound!!!
When I was in Catholic school in the 80s, there was an Irish kid in my class called Jimmy, and when we had gym class, all the kids would cheer "Vern, Vern, Vern, Vern!" ...Great times.
He probably would have been the Young Indiana Jones. I believe I read years ago that this was his next project. I wonder if he would have chosen to continue in films or do more with his music and humanitarian work.
river had an energy and charm like ashtray from euphoria has especially at that age. i was shocked when i googled him only to find out that he's no more
Timeless. One of the greatest movies of all time. I often wonder how many other amazing performances River Phoenix would have been turning out nowadays.
I think he would be like a cross between his brother and Leonardo di caprio, and probably unstoppable. Rip river.
He would've won some Oscars.

@Rinilags03 actully River didn’t want the role because he didn’t wanna play teens anymore . He turned it down
So sweet how River kept putting his arm around Corey and Wil. I sense that he felt like he was the big brother of the cast.
Technically, he was because he was the oldest of the boys. It also comes with the territory of being the oldest child in his actual family.
@@kgunitkeese17All 4 boys were the eldest of their siblings.
You mean 'older' brother. Since he was only 1-4 years older than the other 3.
@@Lightner445555555555 River Phoenix was born in 1970, Corey Feldman in 1971, Will Wheaton in 1972 and Jerry O' Conell in 1974, in this order.

He was sure wise beyond his years.
Ugh it’s so sad he was truly perfect
Pretty sure he was just a Hollywood druggie like the rest
He would've given Brad Pitt a run for his money... maybe!?
I think, had he lived, he would have won an Oscar by now, a rare talent gone way too soon. He had 2 Oscar nominations in his career before he died.
river was so eloquent, really understood the character he was portraying. chris is one of the best movie characters ever!
It’s a shame how his life ended. Hollywood destroyed him.
River was such a beautiful talent. I had a strange, incongruous, male crush on him. He was perfect in every way and such a terrific actor.
