This is a real location near McCloud, California. I'll be at the location in a couple weeks. I've seen some cliffjumpers re-enact this scene where they change the ending to be them jumping into Lake Britton below. I'm considering making the jump but I honestly likely don't have the guts for it unless I have an experienced guide who does it with me.
@@cuddlesworth1 I didn't end up jumping. A little high for a first jump, didn't know what all to do for a depth check. Bit of a coming of age story for me actually.
Vern was an idiot, crawling slowly across the bridge like that, even when the train was coming. He was slowing Gordy down as well. He could have gotten both himself and Gordy killed.
There's a deleted scene that explained why he was crawling slowly across the bridge. If you haven't seen it, there was this moment where Teddy lost his balance and almost fell in between the tracks before Chris quickly grabbed him and pulled him back up. This freaked Vern out and made him start crawling. You can find that scene on TH-cam if you wanna check it out
0:48 Look, You guys can go around if you want to. I'm crossing here, and while you guys are dragging your candy asses half-way across the state and back. I'll be waiting for you on the other side, relaxing with my thoughts
climb down to the river somewhere close, swim across, then climb back up. Or run across the bridge fast, not take you sweet ass time. Also that train was not going that fast, they could, and should have slowed down some. A four or five car train is not that impossible to slow down. Also if you lay down on the outside of the track, your likely going to have enough clearance for the train to go by you, IF you can hold and and it ain't gonna be fun.
Sir Topham Hatt: I am, however, very disappointed in you, Oliver. You should know not to go so fast in the storm. And using the express line? Very dangerous. Once you'll repaired, you'll be shunting in the yard for the next week. I'm sure one of the shunters will love a change of scenery. Cop: I cannot agree more. Once you were pulled out, you gotta be mended and you'll be straight to the works, and I request to the orders that you were punished! Egyptian Master: And how might be then? Yard Manager: Well, it's up to the orders, and I don't want you bumping into the rails for the second time.
So far there only 5 options you can do; 1. Go to the route 136 bridge, but that's 5 miles to get there and 5 back. 2. You can just go across the train bridge, but you'll have to move fast. 3. Go around the river. 4. Swim across the river to the other side. 5. Simply wait for the next train to pass by and then cross. Those are your choices and I'm going for crossing the train bridge, what is yours?
@@jakemiketta3868 Well then, I guess you'll hear me say this; Look Jake, you can stay here and wait. I'm going across here and when the next train comes by and it's safe to go, I'll be waiting for you on the other side.

That was actually a real reaction. When they were shooting the scene, the boys weren't looking scared enough. It got to a point where director Rob Reiner had to go up and yell at them. This made Jerry O'Connell and Wil Wheaton start crying and that's when they rolled the cameras and got a more realistic looking reaction
That train was not going very fast , the driver could have push the brake and not hit them anyways. Kinda stupid he kept sounding th horn instead of pushing the brake button.

Even though Teddy was trying to act like he wasn't scared he was, you can see it in his face.
Run! Look Out For The Train!
Thanks to watching this movie a million times in the late 80s, I knew good and well to stay away from train tracks. 😁
This movie came our waaaay waaaaay before I was born and I LOVE IT! I watched it ten times and it is one of my all time favorites!! 😊
I remember that movie now, and Corey Feldman he was young just like the rest of them, good movie.

@@jonathancruz5932 Tell that to Vern and Chris, they started it
True especially now with the high speed trains
Walking on it was fine they just had to hurry up and instead they were fooling around until the train came by.
They should've waited for the next train before crossing since there one that didn't come before they approached the trestle.
