A to Z About Internal Brace. The Video Includes the Advantages and Disadvantages of the Internal Brace. It also includes the technical details of the technique . It also includes the main conditions in which this technique is used.
Internal Brace is a recent advancement in the Ligament surgery in which a Fibertape(A UHMWPE tape which is very strong) is used to supplement repair or reconstruction of the ligament. The Internal Brace acts in a seat belt manner to prevent injury to the ligament . The role of Internal Brace is evolving in the ACL surgery. Its more important when we are doing ACL Repairs although it is also useful with ACL reconstruction as well.
Internal Brace can be used with All Inside Technique as well. One should not confuse Internal brace with All inside technique.
It Allows the athlete to get back into sports faster and stronger after the surgery .
It has role with ACL repair and Reconstruction both
A)with ACL REPAIR : Repair if Possible is always better than reconstruction. It protects Repair in crucial phase of healing. Faster Mobilization can be done. Quicker return to work can be restored. Immediate Weight Bearing can be done.
We all know that natural healing is the best . If we can create circumstances where the torn tissue heal normally and we protect the construct through the period of repair by means of Internal bracing the outcomes will be excellent This surgery has to be done early that will result in stronger and Rapid healing of the ligament.
Using the internal brace reduces the recovery time for a return to work and sports as much as 60%.
B) With ACL reconstruction : ACL reconstruction is a time tested successful surgery. With ACL Reconstruction addition of Internal Brace gives an extra support and gives surgeon a confidence of Faster rehabilitation.
I usually use Internal Brace not as an alternative to traditional methods but as an adjunct to traditional proven methods to increase the outcomes.

Fibertape internal brace is a surgical technique and implant system used in orthopedic applications, particularly in the treatment of ligament injuries. It is designed to provide additional strength and support to weakened or damaged ligaments, promoting healing and stability.
The fibertape internal brace consists of a strong, flat tape made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) material. This tape is typically preloaded onto specially designed anchors, which are used to secure the tape to the bones on either side of the injured ligament. The anchors are inserted into the bone using minimally invasive techniques, such as arthroscopy.
Once the fibertape internal brace is in place, it acts as a reinforcement for the injured ligament, providing immediate stability and support. The fibertape is particularly advantageous because of its high strength and low profile, minimizing the risk of irritation or impingement on surrounding tissues.

So till the date, conventional ACL surgery using bio screw is the only option. Please advise me. I am having 2nd Grade ACL tear in left knee since January 2020. Got my MRI done in June to know about this injruy. I never had swelling or too much pain but yes, I do feel weakness in my knee. I am now planning for surgery.
