    The 1869 pattern would look great in a pink and black color scheme. Like the pants and collar in black and the shirt in pink.

    Loved this review of VOGUE
    Its so nice that you share one of the big four patterns
    That is all I sew is big four
    So many Utube channels are just featuring indie patterns
    I wish I had a formal occasion really loved the dress with dipped hem midi and the fushia outfit lovely
    Thank you
    Happy sewing looking forward to seeing more
    Take care and God bless you

      Me, too, until I gave indie patterns a chance. Some of them let you enter all your measurements, and the pattern you download is your exact fit. There is one where you can order a dress form made to your measurements, which is very popular in the historical costume circles, because you can make a dress form to corseted measurements to avoid constantly lacing up into a corset for fittings.

      Thank you, yes it is such a timeless classic, I can imagine pulling it out of the wardrobe again and again over the years. Not something you'd wear every day, but certainly something that wouldn't date and would come in useful for so many occasions.

    As a beginner I really appreciate the explanations of why you recommend different types of fabric for different patterns - so helpful to hear your train of thought!
    (Also I was so struck by that last jacket and then you said you wouldn't recommend it for beginners and THANK YOU for helping me avoid biting off more than I can chew!)

      That's so great to hear I'm so glad these videos are useful to you. Maybe bookmark or pin the jacket (we have pin buttons on all the products on our site) so you can go back to it at a later date when you've built up more confidence.

    Thank you, I just love Vogue patterns, they are so upscale!
    WOW 1862 is lovely! Love your fabric choices, as always! :+)
    I seldom wear skirts, but 1850 has me thinking I need to "change my ways"!! LOL! Lovely-I especially like the midi in the faux leather!
    I have 1845, but yet to make, it is gorgeous!!
    1859-yes, that is the very definition of chic!! Another must have!
    1869 is a real knock out, nice for attending a special event!
    1867, good wardrobe staple!
    I think that 1847 would be a knock out with an exposed zipper on the solid..I'm thinking rhinestones, etc....
    Have a lovely day!

    Oh wow that white shirt! I'm thinking since I am so straight that wud maybe make me look like I have a waist! I love everything about it. Really liked skirt too. Thx for showing us these lovely patterns and fabrics.

    Some very pretty pattern and fabrics. Only wish more patterns would include size 4 & 6 as well as petite. It’s nice when a pattern comes closer to a person’s size & height as it makes adjusting the pattern so much easier, especially patterns that are more fitted. Thanks for sharing!

    I'm about to make V1869 in a silvery sage green silk crepe back charmuse, because green works well for spring and those holiday galas that are cropping back up since the pandemic is raging a little less now. But first... I think I'll make a mock up from some brocade curtains from a charity shop with a faux fur collar for a really modern twist on Mrs. Clause for that Navidad Fariolito stroll down Canyon Rd.

    I would’ve liked to have seen the line drawings, on the first dress for example I couldn’t see the ‘y’ shape you mentioned because of the print on the fabric. Some really nice patterns though, I do enjoy seeing something different.

    Oh my goodness Lucy, you need to learn your flowers! 😆 They're not forget-me-knots, more likely to be asters. Forget-me-nots are blue and very small. That apart, I love your pattern reviews as it's a good way to see new patterns. Not that I actually need any more but hey who can resist a new style?

  • @elaine58100
    @elaine58100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Lucy, you have to make yourself something in the coral linen fabric. When you held the colour up to you it so suited you :)
    Could you tell me the difference between a 'quilting' cotton fabric and normal cotton fabric. I always think quilting cotton is just for making quilts with, but not dress making?

    • @SewEssential
      @SewEssential  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ooooh thanks Elaine that's really kind of you, I might just do that! Quilting cottons are generally a little stiffer with less drape so only suitable for certain garments such as the shirt in question which requires a lot of structure. If you wanted to make something with drape and movement they wouldn't be suitable and then you would need one of the cotton fabrics more commonly used for dressmaking such as cotton lawn, polycotton, cotton poplin, cotton voile, double gauze etc. I hope that makes sense and helps.

    I'm currently sewing the vogue 1862. I'm having to change the armscythe, sleeves, bodice, and completely redraft the neckband. I'm also struggling to find a drapey dusty light blue fabric for most of the dress and a white or ivory fabric for the neckline and piping. If anyone has any recommendations for the fabrics please let me know!
