The great guitar man Larry Knechtel was branded a piano man from his work on songs like Bridge Over Troubled Water. Along with being in Bread, Larry was a member of The Wrecking Crew with Leon Russell and the most recorded drummer of all time Hal Blaine
So the wah wah guitar is played by Larry Knechtel (August 4, 1940 - August 20, 2009) who was an American keyboard player and bassist who was a member of the Wrecking Crew, a collection of Los Angeles-based session musicians who worked with such renowned artists as Simon & Garfunkel, Duane Eddy, the Beach Boys, the Mamas & the Papas, the Monkees, the Partridge Family, Billy Joel, the Doors, the Grass Roots, Jerry Garcia, and Elvis Presley, and as a member of the 1970s band Bread, according to Wikipedia.
The album “Best of Bread” is the ultimate make out album. I had the 8-track of the album and spent many nights parked at the beach with my high school girlfriend back in the mid 70s listening to this album over and over again, naturally from the backseat. Great memories 😀
The best thing about an 8 track is you had to love the whole album b/c there was no rewind.. And Bread was one of those tracks that you could repeatedly listen to the entire album.
I stumbled upon this song by chance last summer. Can't believe I hadn't heard it before! Since I found it this song has been one of top ten most heard song for me. And Bread has so many other amazing songs to enjoy aswell! Great reaction by you!
Bread is one of the greatest soft rock of all time. Funny to mention being on a boat as "yacht rock" is a genre in itself. Check out "Summer Breeze" by Seals & Croft.
The song is 51 years old and your lady is still tripping on this song. That's music Magic, that's art. I don't know of any drummer songs. But here's a suggestion, create one.
Back in the 60's and 70's it was common to hear a string section (violins, etc) in the background of many songs. I always liked that because it made the songs more special. Guitar Man is a great song.
@@marniethedyslexic6445 Yeah, Bread always seemed to be so sad. Well heck, it was sad. Sad and beautiful at the same time. There's more to the story though for me though, because my guitar teacher was a old hippie and he would ride his bicycle to my house after school to teach me guitar his name was Kenny Virden and he was my father's good friend anyway, on one day, he never showed up and we learned he was hit by a car, not far from my house and died, but we had just started learning to play if by bread and so I made sure I learned the song for him. He was a real cool cat like back in the 60s the cool cat stuff.
@@shelbys6572 Thanks for sharing your story with me. I’m sure Kenny would be very proud that you learned the song and grew up to be a cool cat yourself.❤️✌️🌼
As one who lived with this Music I would offer you these songs Next for any future Endeavors !!! 1) Everything I own 2) If 3) Diary And many more this should Get you Started 😁🌞 Like button Illuminated Still I would offer you The Female Artist of 1967 Bobbie Gentry ( Ode to billy Joe ) this song has been debated forever
Oh don't worry. Those of us who love and respect music and talent are also always trying to see around the guitar line to see who's playing those drums like THAT!
I grew up listening to the soft rock music of Bread in the 70's & had their albums. Love David Gates voice. He has one of the most soothing & mellow voices. They had so many hits such as "If", "Make It With You", "Baby I'm-a Want You", "Everything I Own", "Diary", "Lost Without Your Love", "It Don't Matter To Me", "Sweet Surrender" & "Aubrey". In 1978, Gates enjoyed success as a solo artist with the hit singles "Goodbye Girl" (from the movie The Goodbye Girl) & "Took The Last Train".
Hey Chod I know you've listened to "The Guess Who" and I've heard you say how much you enjoy their music, so this is one of Burton Cummings live performances "Burton Cummings - I'm Scared - CBC TV Special 1977" I love Burton Cummings voice it so comforting and yet powerfully soulful. I really enjoyed both your and Dee's reaction thanks🔥💖🎶🎹🤗
I just did A1TOKE so onjoyed the guitar man after the one toke that I played the song too it's a Brewer and shapely they do want to hook 1 toke over to the alarm is what they
Thank you for the reaction, ( suggestion: may I suggest when you play it back you find a way to eliminate the sounds of the headphone cords dragging on the bench, with headphones on it's an annoyance,) however that said thank you for the Bread...........love and light from down under in Australia
G'day from down under. I just got in from night shift and watching you react to this was the perfect way to unwind. It's been a minute since you've reacted to John Farnham, I'd love it if you would listen to his song angels live 2000. I think you'll love it too
Great song and reaction as always! In response to your comments, may I recommend; Jimi's Experience: "If 6 was 9" (he commends the drummer) 'Axis' album and if you feel like 'sailing' from Jimi's "Cry of Love" album, "Drifting". Enjoy
Hey guys, check out Cake's version. "If they have no Bread, let them eat Cake!" (Sorry, I couldn't resist...): th-cam.com/video/8iPBJR1r8zI/w-d-xo.html
Chod, I agree, I am friends with the former President of the Kansas City Blues Society and He has been playing Bass Guitar for 50+ years and has played some of the best Blues Artist`s ever and he has always said the Bassist`s and Drummer`s rarely get the recognition they deserve even though they are the foundation and the timing of any song and most dont even pay any attention to what they bring to any song. Its terrible!
This is US brought me here. This song was featured in an episode. Bittersweet. The series ended in 2022. I miss it everyday. If the two of you watch “This is US” You gonna need a lot of Kleenex. I cried every episode. My Mom not as much. 😢😢😢😢😢😢You been warned.
David Gates had all the "A" sides but Jimmy Griffin was as much a talent. Some of his incredible songs might have been hits had they been released, but after Bread hit it big the record company was unwilling to try anything but what/who had scored big for them... Check out Griffin's best work for the band, IMHO, "Our Lady Of Sorrow"
Timeless Classic. Bread were something else.
Diary is a good one by them with a surprise ending
One of the saddest songs I’ve ever heard.
The drummer on this record was also playing magnificently. Give it another listen.
David Gates had a sensational voice , and Bread was nothing less then a hit machine
Bread has so many beautiful songs. A great voice of the lead singer. 🎶🎶🎶❤️❤️🎸🎸
I love David Gates voice
Bread had so many great songs and David Gates has awesome voice and excellent songwriter

I never knew that. Thanks.
He was a top top top musician

Or "Cry in your beer" music

"Beautiful" , and "Bread" in the same sentence .
See the Webster's Dictionary...
Another great song back in the early seventies about a musician on the road is Dave Loggins “Please Come to Boston.”

What do you call a drummer without a girlfriend? A: Homeless😂
We love you drummer man.We all know the drums are the heartbeat of the music, like the human heart we take it for granted until it stops beating.😄
The guitar playing is next level.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever !
Cheer up Chod, you still have "The little drummer boy" during the holiday season.
The perfect song
This is some of the sweetest heart filled music this side of Heaven...
Bread always made me cry... maybe I was a sad kid at 14 years old. The first song I ever learned to play on the guitar was If by Bread.
“IF” has that same effect on me. What a great song to be the first one you learned on guitar.❤️✌️🌼

Great song 😊 try goodbye girl you will love it ♥️
I saw them years ago at the Sheffield City Hall UK.Dean Parks was the Guitarist and it was the last concert they all played together anywhere.
Love them Bread "crumbs" Chod and Dee! Their songs take you to another place. Such a great vibe! Loved your violin solo Dee!🤗
Oh don't worry. Those of us who love and respect music and talent are also always trying to see around the guitar line to see who's playing those drums like THAT!
Interesting tidbit on how Bread chose their name. While thinking of a name for the band.
A bread truck drives by and the rest is history. 🍞
There was a time in my youth that I played mostly Breads Greatest Hits.
I grew up listening to the soft rock music of Bread in the 70's & had their albums. Love David Gates voice. He has one of the most soothing & mellow voices. I still go back and forth on whether this song is really happy or really sad...
or both...
The lyrics, the guitar and bass guitar and David Gate's voice - all good making for a great song.

Always fantastic evert time I listen ❤❤❤❤❤
Cake does a great cover of this song
Great choice. Great song.
Of all the Beatles Ringo received the most fan mail, as did the Beach Boys drummer.
I agree with you Chod. I like the drums. My uncle was a drummer. And the drummer is just as important. Take care and God Bless.
Soooo awesome 😄🤗😎😎💖💖💖💖
You can't go wrong with David Gates and Bread.
Hey Chod and Dee! Looks like Dee found a new calling: air violin, lol ✌️ ☮️ ❤️🇱🇷
I ❤ your diversity in the music you play
David Gates had a high school band Bridges Gates with the great Leon Russell
🇨🇦 There is one song dedicated to percussion, "The Little Drummer Boy" ! LOL
It’s ok, Chod….The guitar gets the girl, but the rhythm section keeps her around…😎
Dee rocks a vest 🔥
You two have an awesome vibe. Keep it up!
P.S. I've never seen a reaction to Bob Dylan's "Idiot Wind". A bit off topic but something that needs to happen.
"Aubrey" is a Bread MUST!!!
The guitars and the voice and the bass and the drums hit the ground!!! the vilolins they are complemnets only.
brilliant
Tough one for drummers and the rest ,As a guitarist of many years I get all my drive from those guys, Not fair really..

🎶Who's that guy that hangs around with the three musicians?
The drummer. 🥁

Mother Freedom is my favorite by Bread.
Christopher Cross's "SAILING" is a good sailboat song.
