In 1984, Hornsby formed Bruce Hornsby and the Range, who were signed to RCA Records in 1985. Besides Hornsby, Range members were David Mansfield (guitar, mandolin, violin), George Marinelli (guitars and backing vocals), former Ambrosia member Joe Puerta (bass guitar and backing vocals), and John Molo (drums). They win best New artist in 1987 and among the other nominees they beat out was Simply Red
When I was in radio my rep invited me to dinner with a hot new artist she thought I’d like. It was a small group of 5. We had a great dinner with this unusually nice guy. And then he said let me play a few tunes for you. The artist of choice is Bruce. The blend of his piano and synth pads were just gorgeous. I couldn’t believe how great this mini concert was. It was clear Bruce had “it.”
So glad you found this. A re-introduction for me that I really appreciate. The way it is is so great that it’s easy to forget the other awesome songs they did. I think Bruce has played on many other artist’s recordings, Bonnie Rait for sure.
I've so enjoyed watching you discover Bruce Hornsby ! Mr Piano himself. I fell in love with him from the get. I still love his music as much today as from the first. I've had the pleasure of seeing him twice in person and he and his band are unforgettable🎹💯🎶
I haven't seen Chod so happy about an artist in a long time, lol. You love to see it! My personal favorite Hornsby songs are "Valley Road" and "Stander on the Mountain". If Chod is this excited about Bruce Hornsby, do we DARE introduce him to Tori Amos? I think his brain would explode over "Cornflake Girl" (album version!!).
💗 The vibes of 80s artists music production and singing (unique vocal talents) is just more realness, pureness, and innocence. Hits those piano keys masterfully!
Great reaction, it’s so cool when we realize the universality of music and how it hits on a visceral level. You’re right, there’s no need to tear something down if it’s not your thing. You’ll dig The Valley Road. I always loved singing along to this one. PS you’re right about the music of the 90s. 🔥🔥🔥
Bruce Hornsby is magical! Put him in front of a piano, and you get beautiful music. I am now a subscriber to follow you on this journey. Mandolin Rain next 😊
You gon’ love “Mandolin Rain”. I saw the reaction to “The Way It Is”. Can’t believe I’m just seeing that video as much as I watch this channel. But yeah Bro, Bruce is an underrated musician man. The level of dexterity that this man has on those keys is insane.
My experience was the 3 or 4 years prior to Hornsby was all Euro-synth. Human League, Pet Shop Boys, Soft Cell, even Elton John was more synthy than piano-y. The closest thing to a piano was the Yamaha DX-7. Then one morning, the radio station played Hornsby’s “The Way It Is”. I literally leaped out of bed and celebrated like I’d won a Grammy! The piano is back! Btw, loved your reaction to “The Way It Is”.
Hey Chod, Bruce H was also part of "the Range." Bruce Hornsby & The Range included all of them "I know, I don't get it either, during the 70's & 80's anything go's I guess a lot of backing bands had their own name for branding purposes and other bands included all members. But I think it had a lot to do with the record company/producer they went with." (imo) Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying listening to Bruce Hornsby's work. Here's another suggestion, if interested. "Bruce Hornsby & The Range - The Show Goes On" (by the channel: Kamohelo Leemisa) --Besides Hornsby, range members were David Mansfield (guitar, mandolin, violin), George Marinelli (guitar and backing vocals), Joe Puerta (bass guitar, backing vocals), and John Molo drums. Glad to see your number of sub's growing. And as always, I enjoyed hanging out and rocking with you. Thanks for sharing. peace out~
If you really dig Bruce’s style, I recommend watching Three Nights On The Town by Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers. Really good live performances of most of his hits. Great band. You get a real sense of his range musically. Very inspirational which is what I’ve always felt when I’ve listened to his music.
A couple of his songs that didn't get radio play that I think are worth a listen: See the Same Way & Rainbow's Cadillac. LOVE your reactions. Let us know if your dad is familiar with BH
Yup, this is one I recommend to you. It's a great song. Man, I swear, you stopped at the worst place, twice in a row. I don't even know what to say about that. The Range is just the name of his band. You actually listened to them when you reacted to That's Just The Way It Is. Same band.
🇨🇦 IMHO the Best music written, composed, played, sung in the last 100 years, was between 1959 - 1989 ! #BoomersRock I recommend reacting to "Do you feel like we do" (the Midnight Special video) by Peter Frampton ! 🇨🇦
If you haven't covered it yet, listen to the PERFECT song "I can't make you love me, if you don't" by Bonnie Rait with Hornsby on keys. It'll make you feel all kinds of ways
It's been years since I have heard this song. Someone mentioned Bruce Hornsby playing Don Henley "Age Of The End Of The Innocence". Please take a listen to that song, but since it is Don Henley I know you can't react to it.
Dude. If you listen to the lyrics that Bruce Hornsby and Tupac both laid down, you'll see it's really the same message from a different perspective. It's not exactly a cover by Tupac, but you can see he had mad respect for the original message.
“Mandolin Rain” is a beautiful song
yea!!!!!
When this first came out, like you, I couldn't get enough of Bruce and Range. Their music paint such beautiful soundscapes to lose yourself in.
There's so much more to discover. Enjoy the musical journey young man. We'll be with you all the way!!!
Check out The Valley Road and Mandolin Rain….
Both great songs. Another one is Look Out Any Window.
Definitely check out Mandolin Rain and The End Of The Innocence by Don Henley. Bruce plays the piano in that song and it’s fantastic ❤

You might be interested to know the harmonica at the end of the song was played by his friend, Huey Lewis.

Pat Metheny has played on two of Bruce’s solo records. They are great tunes.
Pat said the hardest changes he ever had to play over was Bruce’s songs.

Lead guitarist for the Range is Joe Puerta from Ambrosia.

Check out " Look Out Any Window". The song's message is still relevant today
Bruce also plays on Bonnie Raitt's song Can't make you love me. Check it out if you haven't.
Quality. Valley Road Next Chod.

You need to watch him live watch Madeline Raine
Probably auto correct, but I think you mean Mandolin Rain
Check your mic volume. Your voice is much lower than the music volume.
i am sure ur dad knows about bruce
