I will do a step-by-step on replacing a keyboard on a challenging laptop using various methods. This video is also for the individual who wants to learn how to correctly tear down his/her laptop. I will show tips for tools, screw bits, and proper removal of connectors. I will show how to remove and replace thermal grease on the CPU and heat pipe.

I don't think I will be attempting this (at least any time soon) but I wanted to comment to say, this might be the most phenomenal breakdown tutorial I've ever seen. Out the gate, you mention the hardest step and give many warnings to people who are willing to attempt. You speak clearly and your words make sense, you have captions in like 40 languages, and the tutorial follows at a good pace. Amazing content, I'm hoping you see my comment!
I do not often get such nice comments, appreciated!
Thank you for the quality instruction. I've only seen comments on this video talking about how they thought it was good, but did not attempt it themselves, so I thought I'd add my experience in since I did attempt it.
This was my first time disassembling a laptop and the video was very helpful all the way through. I ran into no issues during the process and the laptop booted up first try with a working keyboard when I was done. In the video, you melted edger string to replace the plastic rivets, but I decided to follow another commenter's suggestion of using a hot glue gun instead. After trying both methods, I can conclude the hot glue gun was not only way easier, but also less dangerous, so I heavily suggest that method instead. My keyboard backplate was slightly bent (probably my fault), so I found that the best way to get it to sit flush was to use the end of a pen with the ballpoint retracted and press down on the parts of the plate that were coming up until they were flat against the rest of the laptop while I glued the spots where it was riveted previously. Then I held the pen there until the glue had hardened and didn't need support anymore. After repeating this for all rivets, the backplate was flush and my keyboard properly stuck out. This is an easy task so long as you're careful and take your time. I recommend taking pictures along the way of disassembling like I did so that you have references to where pieces go and what screws go where when re-assembling. You can even record a video if you want to be 100% sure. Thank you and good luck
I wish I had done the hot glue method "after the fact". Good decision!
Appreciate the detailed description as you perform the tasks. I have a different brand. When I get a new computer, laptop, which ever, & decide to take the plunge when it's more educational than necessary, I'll refer to this video. Had to get a stand alone keyboard. Usually use on screen keyboard for some.
Thanks for watching and the comments!
A real masterclass! Thank you soooo much!
Thanks for watching1
This is awesome. I'm not sure if I can do this myself, but maybe I'll call a local place to see if they can replace the keyboard. I spilled candle wax on the keypad/enter/shift keys and no amount of cleaning has made them return to a functioning state. Computer is completely fine, so it'd be a shame to have to buy an entirely new unit just because part of the keyboard isn't functional.
You can do it, purchase a small tool kit from Amazon for under $15 and go slow.
Good job LV!
Thanks for your support!
I really enjoyed this. Really appreciate that you go through all the steps and explain how & why to be so careful. I been looking for a video that's not so much about replacing the keyboard. The mold that holds my hinge screws, broke. Not able to fasten it tight. So, I'm buying a chassis with the keyboard. Will probably get the bottom case also. Cheap enough. Just trying to find all the instructions I can about dismantling my laptop. Its the R5 -571T. I guess my concern is the touchpad is not included. I just want to be sure about the procedure. There's a place online "impact computers". They have a ton of parts. My Acer has been good to me. I put in a SSD, upgraded the ram. It performs very nicely. Anyway, if you have any tips or comments, I would really appreciate that! And thanks again for your video!
Take your time and be detailed about your work, where screws go, and the like and you should be fine, the disassembly is not that bad if you are patient and careful.
Well, I got it fixed! My laptop is almost like new. My hinges work like new. Little scary but it was good. I didnt have any video. got a little worried but I knew I could only be of one of the two lead coming from the hinges and I was correct. I replaced the lower & upper case with an attached lit keyboard. Thanks for the video, it helped!
Thank you for the informative video but it looks like you're using a Acer VX15 in you thumbnail and not the Aspire 5
True, sometimes I look for images that really look good, notice the title is very accurate for anyone searching for that model. Thanks for the comment and for watching the channel.
Thankyou sir for one more video
Thanks for the great support of this channel!
You might want to add that if you a soldering iron, maybe you should do that outside otherwise you will be setting off the smoke alarms
Is wasn't that bad but the fumes nevertheless are toxic and you want to keep fresh air flowing.
I have A515-52-5986, would be easier to change the hole palmrest rather than the keyboard?
If you can find them.... sometimes Ebay has them.
What are those gloves called?
I purchased jewelry gloves, It keeps the focus of the viewer on what I doing rather than looking at my hands. You could use a variety of gloves including mechanic gloves. Doing a video the white gives contrast.
@@TechsavvyProductions there are static gloves to.... I think
Shame on ACER for such a difficult to service laptop. I'll never buy another.
It is about lower manufacture costs.
Couldn't you have used some hot glue instead of melting plastic back into rivets?
Great suggestion, I actually wished I had done that! I had initially considered that but was concerned it would not hold, but realized after the fact it was a better way. Appreciate your comment!
