Every time I watch this scene, I'm reminded of all the times I felt completely alone and insignificant. The times where I questioned what my purpose was, whether my life had meaning, and what my future would bring. I think one reason why people like this movie is because the emotions are universal. Everyone has felt loneliness at some point in their life, and we all yearn for purpose and camaraderie. We never have all the answers we want, but we can find some in the places we least expect.
I have played this song while sitting in a window at this hotel (The Park Hyatt Tokyo) facing the same side of the city as Scarlett Johansson is in this clip. It was an amazing feeling.
This song never fails to instantly transport me back to the same "lonely/empty" feeling you get while watching the movie, and all the feels just rush over me all over again 😭😭❤️
I watch this movie (and especially this scene) before and after any stressful or long-anticipated event. "Lost in Translation" is my favorite movie and it always makes me feel better.
First of all, Tom Jenkinson get's to walk around every day knowing (or not) that he cut out one of the most gasping slices of perfect, aural genius from the stars. Just imagine that. Secondly: Coppola's inclusion of that track in this film is everything that cinema needs more of. What a gift to the eyes and ears and a treat to finally watch this film and stumble across one of the most desperately fleeting pieces of synchronicity i've ever seen laid to film.
The funny thing is that I watched this movie and didn't even get half way through when I was a teenager and now I'm in my thirties and I cannot stop watching this film. Its actually one of the most amazing films I've seen.
@@reckonerwheel5336 its hard to explain why this resonated with me but I guess I can really relate to both of them. Feeling lost and getting older and more isolated from the world.
Saw this movie for the first time last night. I don't know why I put it off for 10 years but I'm glad I finally watched it. Great movie with an awesome soundtrack.
Was stationed in Bahrain back in 2006. Watched this movie every weekend for the entire year. Never before or since found a movie that completely encapsulated how I felt in that moment, throughout my stay.
When I saw the scene of bob looking up at the neon lights coming into Tokyo, I realized that I always used to watch this movie at night with all the lights off. I feel like it really added to The effect of the movie.
A friend of mine took his life about a year ago. This was one of his favorite movies and until recently I neglected to watch this masterpiece. I feel a part of what he felt the loneliness and feeling unsure of life. I wish I could have connected better and tried to do more but I failed.
Every time I'm extremely sad but unable to express it I put this song on and I bawl and I weep and I cry for what feels like forever but then the song ends and I feel purified. It's so hauntingly beautiful. I want to die to and live inside this masterpiece for an eternity.
I love this movie. It is so chill, fun, and dreamlike, with a touch of innocence and ambience. At the same time it tells a story and delivers just the right amount of sentimentality and emotion.
Isn't something life changing always forever? If I experienced something that made me act differently for a day, wouldn't that life forever be something else than if I had never experienced it?
My sophomore year of high school, for our very first assignment, our english teacher had us analyze the emotions that emanate from scene with little to no context of the the movie aside from its premise. I’m coming back to this video now because i suddenly remembered it, and realized i still have yet to watch this movie. I most likely will soon, and I’ll update this comment then. In the meantime, this is just such a vibe of a video.
This comforted me so much. One of my favorite scenes in one of my favorite movies. I can't put my finger on why this short simple scene is so significant for me.
Esta escena me deja como hipnotizado entre la música de squarepusher, Scarlett y la vista tan buena de Tokio.....simplemente genial y por supuesto felicitar a Sofía Coppola, por esta película que sin duda está entre mis 5 favoritas.
This reminds me so much of being in Tokyo. it has the same sounds and tone of the sounds you hear in the underground train stations and the ambulances and the lullaby that plays when the kids are coming home from school.
Now I am home for last 2 years And I miss my good old days.what is life?!?!May be I was expecting too much from home or what!?everyone has grew up.Its all about competition.I don't want to come back here ever again.I think I will appreciate life more from now on.specially my college life.
This scene is when Taurus (Sofia) meets Sagittarius (Scarlett). It's a moment of profound introversion with music that stimulates earthy emotion (Taurus). That's coupled with this young woman looking out at the world, wanting to explore and live, starving for spontaneity and excitement (Sagittarius)
The last time I was in Japan in November 2022 and I was discouraged by the fact that I was talking to Japanese people of my age (about 40 years old) and they didn't even know that such a film existed.
I love this film, but it also negatively stereotypes Japanese people and focuses on culture shock from an American perspective. This is certainly not universally appealing and when the film came out it was ripped by Japanese film critics.
i need to know more songs like this. it feels so nostalgic and wistful, but almost video game like. the only similar music i know is the album 'it's immaterial' by black marble, the minecraft ost and the bee and puppycat ost. whatever that is, it's my favorite type of music
I don't know if you've found them, but here are some suggestions of songs that exist in a similar space: Oneohtrix point never (Time decanted, Behind the bank, Parallel minds, Ships without meaning, Months, Memory vague, Blue drive, Submersible), Aphex twin (Lichen, Rhubarb, Stone in focus, Blue carpet)
This film is everything I have ever wanted to do, think, say or feel.
Of all the people I wanted but never expected to comment on a Lost in Translation videos - you are it. You're my media spirit animal.
Parker ♥️
Nice. I think I identify with that!
I relate to it on every level, I'm and Australian born and raised in Japan

This world is mostly just weaklings now, like you.
lost my wife 2 years ago. song and movie always reminded me of her.
Sorry for your loss. Hope you're doing well now.
sad but i did not know her.
Shut up man, who the hell asked you did you lost anything? God!
I know it's 9 years since the comment, but I hope you're going strong :)
this song is like a dream you have as a kid that feels overwhelmingly emotional but you cant explain why
this has been my morning alarm song for years and it's an absolute joy to hear it every morning
Mine too ❤
Great idea!
I have played this song while sitting in a window at this hotel (The Park Hyatt Tokyo) facing the same side of the city as Scarlett Johansson is in this clip. It was an amazing feeling.
I did exactly the same! In Sept 2015... when i open the curtains and see that view, i feel like im inside a dream, only Scarlett missing... (sight)...
@@ljesus67 I will do it too)
which side is it, i will request the similar room when I'm there. :)
My dream is to do the same. What side and floor is with a good view ?
If I was in Tokyo, the first thing I'd do is stare out the hotel room window and play this song 5 times straight with maximum volume.
I did this when I arrived in April
I did, it was great ❤
🤨
Wow! This is my favourite scene ❤
I went to the park plaza, just to re live it!
Even in the history of movies, it is a movie that takes a good picture of the cityscape of Tokyo.
This song never fails to instantly transport me back to the same "lonely/empty" feeling you get while watching the movie, and all the feels just rush over me all over again 😭😭❤️

Thank you! This is one of my favorite movies of my whole life too. Makes me so sad but happy in a way too.
This music will always fascinate me. It is haunting, beautiful, mesmerising, ethereal, yet its luminescent qualities are enveloping.
This song makes my eyes water. Reminds me a time when I was happy and I had the person I loved beside me.
are you still here
We love you
Why am I so addicted to this film.
This scene managed to capture the whole movie in 120 seconds... it's awe inspiring

Same! I watched it fully today for the first time, at 33. I didn't know what I was missing all those years back. Such a great film.

One moment of grace. I had this vinyl record, and I’ve been stolen in a party. Guess I’m doomed, but well, it’s part of life.
Thanks for sharing.

I love how real this movie is, the perfect depiction of forbidden love
Every time I listen to it, Tokyo comes to mind... Powerful music.
What i really really loved about this film was the characters and how real their experiences were and how they resonated with me so deep
I've been chasing this song since it was created.

just remove "ful" from this sentence and you've got yourself another song with similar powerful atmosphere
This is Music: Tommib - Squarepusher from the
Movie: Lost In Translation
Coppola / Squarepusher mash up =genius.

When she looked out that window and felt so alone in a city of millions...It's so hard to believe that's possible. I know how that feels.
