"The Messenger" is the only acoustic song ever written by Linkin Park. The song is very mellow, the guitar is very soothing filled with husky vocals. On February 22, 2011, at a press conference in California, Chester Benington (Linkin Park vocalist) said that this song is for teenagers. He added that teenagers sometimes grow into adults and things can get tough, so finding a home is the only answer for them to live.

More seriously, this is probably the deepest and most meaningful song they've ever written, and definitely Chester's best vocal performance. Just hearing his voice makes you realize how much this song was important to him and that it has much more depth than any lyric he screamed.
Such a shame "The Messenger" is so underrated, it's one of the best songs they've written, if not the best.
We'll deeply miss you Chester, our lives won't ever be the same ever again.

Cliche but, it was the truth. Chester gave his heart and soul with his music to those who needed it, but he couldn't use them for himself.

This song saved me from so many attempts at suicide. I used to shed so many tears listening to this, i felt as though Chester was actually there, trying to comfort me. And now that he's passed by suicide, it breaks my heart to listen to this. Chester was by far one of the most influential voices in the rock scene of this decade and he will never be forgotten.

Man, this song hits all the emotions. I'm remembering two friends of mine that committed suicide while also thinking about CB. This is why I refuse to talk down to, disrespect or make fun of people, you never know where they're at in their life and the next negative interaction they have could push them over the edge. Be the person that lends a hand, not the one that puts it in their pocket.

I also suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts but I managed to be free from its grasps for almost a year now, just wish I could say the same for my cousin; he was a brother to me but I couldn't helped him, nobody noticed it but he was suffering bad and couldn't escaped it. He's free now...

I really do love this song in the live versions, but, Chester himself said they didn't do anything to the vocals when recording this song, he just sang it with his heart, and seeing as recording studios are near perfect as far as acoustics, I think this version may be the best version of it.
I remember the first time I heard it and thought to myself: this sounds so different than the others songs in the album. As if the vocals were a demo... but it's so raw and, honestly, perfect as it is.

I dread the actual day it happens with every fiber of my being but knowing I'm not alone helps in some way and your perspective of this album helps. I find it so entrancing how I, a hard headed 17 year old boy, can bring himself to tears with a 30 second thought in his head. He's got such a huge heart to come out of his mourning and whatever heartbreaking thing he is going through right now just to help the fans coping with the loss too. Not to mention he's helping the rest of the guys too for speaking on behalf of them in this extremely hard and sad time. I hope Mike will take time to properly heal from this and take care of himself. I'm sure Chester won't want anything bad to happen to him (and the rest of the guys) too.

For the last several months, I've been really really depressed and the other day, I decided to take a long drive in the country and listen to Linkin Park the whole time, when it came to this song, I got kind of teary eyed and when Chester sings, "Remember you're loved, and you always will be" I just started sobbing, it just reached the depths of my soul that feel so bleak right now. Thank you Chester and Linkin Park for the wonderful music you have provided for the world.

I love this song and this album despite the fact that it’s very underrated compared to Linkin Park’s older albums. I love this album. Iridescent is another great song. There’s a verse with a line like “as if the heavens were blown into stars”. To me, it hit on the isolation when I was a teenager turning away from religion but just starting to find the beautiful curiosity of the world. And that was just 1 verse. Love the Thousand Suns album

I've never had depression, so when I said this theory, in front of a depression person once, she thinks I'm wrong. But I think music can cure depression. I was just explaining how powerful linkin parks songs are. Sometimes, I feel like the most powerful linkin parks songs are those that feel desperate, but from the lyrics, it shows hope. And it just makes you cry. From his scream, we scream with him inside. And that makes us cry. Depression or whatever negative emotions can be let out in some degree. Like depression must be those negative emotions being held in for too long. That's why people need to express. Linkin Parks' music just does that all the time. And I really think music is powerful enough to change people. It's art, and it's something that only humans do. So it definitely has something special to it. If a guy don’t listen to music, he's crazy. Even serial killers listen to music. So it saddens me that the girl I talk with, don't feel music can cure depression. I just feel like she's lost hope.

Everytime, no matter how old I get, it's like he's talking to us, convincing US that despite everything, there is resolution in the end. I recently attempted suicide, and I was ready to go, until something brought me back to this song, and Chester. This was perhaps the first time in a while that I actually cried from the heart.
It hurts... It hurts because despite the words he gave us, we couldn't save him. It pains me everyday, a constant feeling in me that won't go away; a man who was tormented and damaged his whole life put his heart and soul into something worthwhile. The fact that something, or someone can render someone to this point is fucked up, and I wouldn't wish this pain to even my worse enemies.
Chester is the reason that I'm alive, and continue to fight each day, because I know that even if I am alone, his melody will bring me back home.

This song helped me and my mother get over my father passing. It was such a rough time and I remember this song being the only song that would get us teared up and remind us of him because this was his favorite band that we’d all go to see in concert any chance we could’ve. Damn, what a voice. I have to say I'm mad that you're gone Chester. It's like a feeling of abandonment by someone who helped me so much. However, I am not the person most affected by your passing and I know you stuck around probably longer than you wanted to because of the love for your family, friends, and fans. Thank you, truly. You are so missed. Please rest easy.
In being sad that Chester is gone, don't forget to be thankful for the time that he was here.
