I call this the "Try not to cry challenge 999℅ impossible".
More seriously, this is probably the deepest and most meaningful song they've ever written, and definitely Chester's best vocal performance. Just hearing his voice makes you realize how much this song was important to him and that it has much more depth than any lyric he screamed.
Such a shame "The Messenger" is so underrated, it's one of the best songs they've written, if not the best.
We'll deeply miss you Chester, our lives won't ever be the same ever again.
It gives this song a whole new meaning.

I love this song and one more light as well. Not many singers can pull off so many different sounds he had one of the best metal screams and could sing beautifully like this and everything in between. Great song and imo the greatest singer.

Cliche but, it was the truth. Chester gave his heart and soul with his music to those who needed it, but he couldn't use them for himself.

Everytime, no matter how old I get, it's like he's talking to us, convincing US that despite everything, there is resolution in the end. I recently attempted suicide, and I was ready to go, until something brought me back to this song, and Chester. This was perhaps the first time in a while that I actually cried from the heart.
It hurts... It hurts because despite the words he gave us, we couldn't save him. It pains me everyday, a constant feeling in me that won't go away; a man who was tormented and damaged his whole life put his heart and soul into something worthwhile. The fact that something, or someone can render someone to this point is fucked up, and I wouldn't wish this pain to even my worse enemies.
Chester is the reason that I'm alive, and continue to fight each day, because I know that even if I am alone, his melody will bring me back home.
Thank you for everything you've done, Chester.

On February 22, 2011, at a press conference in California, Chester Benington (Linkin Park vocalist) said that this song is for teenagers. He added that teenagers sometimes grow into adults and things can get tough, so finding a home is the only answer for them to live.

This song saved me from so many attempts at suicide. I used to shed so many tears listening to this, i felt as though Chester was actually there, trying to comfort me. And now that he's passed by suicide, it breaks my heart to listen to this. Chester was by far one of the most influential voices in the rock scene of this decade and he will never be forgotten.

I remember listening to this all the time as a boy. I wasnt loved, my stopmom got drunk and beat me for even "looking at her funny" She threatened my life, she bullied me, she abused me. and my dad just didnt care...
But Chester and Linkin Park were always there to lul me and save me. I struggle with trauma but I still come back to this to remember Love keeps us kind and alive.

Man, this song hits all the emotions. I'm remembering two friends of mine that committed suicide while also thinking about CB. This is why I refuse to talk down to, disrespect or make fun of people, you never know where they're at in their life and the next negative interaction they have could push them over the edge. Be the person that lends a hand, not the one that puts it in their pocket.

I also suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts but I managed to be free from its grasps for almost a year now, just wish I could say the same for my cousin; he was a brother to me but I couldn't helped him, nobody noticed it but he was suffering bad and couldn't escaped it. Here again because Mike shared this on his Twitter and hour ago. My heart broke for Mike. He's got such a huge heart to come out of his mourning and whatever heartbreaking thing he is going through right now just to help the fans coping with the loss too. Not to mention he's helping the rest of the guys too for speaking on behalf of them in this extremely hard and sad time. I hope Mike will take time to properly heal from this and take care of himself. I'm sure Chester won't want anything bad to happen to him (and the rest of the guys) too.

I really do love this song in the live versions, but, Chester himself said they didn't do anything to the vocals when recording this song, he just sang it with his heart, and seeing as recording studios are near perfect as far as acoustics, I think this version may be the best version of it.
I remember the first time I heard it and thought to myself: this sounds so different than the others songs in the album. As if the vocals were a demo... but it's so raw and, honestly, perfect as it is.

As I drove home from my hockey game this evening this song came on. It's now 2 something in the morning, I'm listening to this on repeat, reading all the comments while I lay in bed in a puddle of my own tears and emotions. The feeling I get when I hear his voice is unlike anything. It's so powerful, so raw. He's gone now, and I get a knot in my stomach every time I think about not making any effort to reach out, even if I was just one in a million, it only takes one to change someone's life, to put them in a good mood, to save their life...

I came here just to say that I never liked this song (don't know why, though) and now just when I'm in love with a girl I listened to this song and I started to cry tears of happiness and I listened to it like ten times before going to sleep. This album helped me cope with my father's health decline and eventual death back in 2010... Lyrics like "waiting for the end to come" and "lift me up, let me go" really struck my soul during that rough time. A Thousand Suns will always hold a special place in my heart ❤️

I dread the actual day it happens with every fiber of my being but knowing I'm not alone helps in some way and your perspective of this album helps. This song is the first song I've played on a guitar. This song always was a pat on the shoulder for being strong and I could always feel the love in Chester's voice. It kept me determined. Now it only hurts because of the fact that he is gone. I feel like if he couldn't make I will not be able to either. He was mentally the strongest person I've known and now he's gone. Iridescent is another great song. There’s a verse with a line like “as if the heavens were blown into stars”. To me, it hit on the isolation when I was a teenager turning away from religion but just starting to find the beautiful curiosity of the world. And that was just 1 verse. Love the Thousand Suns album
