Bro, there are a few games here that truly are underrated gems, esp Eastward, so props there. But the majority of the others, especially stuff like Tales of Arise and The Ascent were BIG hits that EVERYONE has heard of.
Citizen Sleeper was fantastic. The story is really moving and draws you in, and the underlying dice mechanic is pretty uncommon in video games (and even tabletop games). I really enjoyed playing through it.
The Ascent was well received by a large number of gamers, while Tales of Arise and Chained Echoes were also acclaimed by the mainstream media. So, I don't know why you would think they were underrated. They got the merit they deserved. Chernobylite was also NOT underrated, though for different reasons. It is a mediocre and forgettable game.
Wildermyth is a must play - im amazed is not more appreciated. All you need to do is "be open minded" and play it. Curiosity alone will make you play it again and again. Wasteland 3 - if it was more balanced it would have been better than xcom in my opinion. Citizen Sleeper - i have to check this out, i was not aware of it
Wildermyth is indeed something special. It might get more attention soon - its Switch port is set to be released in a few days (Tues, Oct. 22). I probably will get the Switch version also. Hope the port runs well!
Chained Echoes is one of my favorite JRPG and for curiosity it was done by a single person, it is truly a hidden gem. I also played some others, like Ruined King and I loved it's gameplay. I didn't know about Citizen Sleeper and by curiosity just downloaded it (thanks PC Game Pass).
Having played a bit more than half of those games, I can say that's pretty normal they didn't get more attention, and developped reviews are pretty accurate: none of those games have great mechanics, and we play games for their mechanics more than their storytelling, graphisms, level design... They're decent but don't offer a great ludic experience. Wildermyth, for example, despite being unique, has a very boring turn-based combat mode, ruining a bit the overall ambiance of the game.
I played Scarlet Nexus and did not care for it. Story is very weak, combat is cool in the beginning and then becomes a slog going forward, at least on higher difficulties everything was spongy. Chained Echoes is interesting but ultimately it failed for me due to the no exp system, the weird exploration and randomly running into multi-phase boss fights that require specific setups. Just not well designed.
Another great list. I actually played The Ascent and really enjoyed it, got several hours in and then one day my save was just randomly deleted. No idea why but apparently it was a known bug at the time. Killed any interest I had in it from then on.
I own and have played all the games on the list except Chernobylite. I agree that most of these games are really good or at least worth a play on discount. One note though. The Ascent is one of the most beautiful games with a cyberpunk setting I have ever seen, but it is more a Diablo style action RPG than what the rest of the list is all about. Also, while I love the game, it has some very serious design flaws that can be very frustrating.
I've been playing Chernobylite for a few weeks and, no, this game is not an RPG. It's a survival game but it doesn't have but the lightest RPG mechanic: leveling up skills. That's all.
@@vagabundorkchaosmagick-use2898 Doom Eternal and Last of Us, no. One could argue that God of War is an RPG. It has heavier RPG elements than previous games. Chernobylite is an RPG. The dev even says it’s an RPG; so why is your opinion valid and the creator’s isn’t? 🤔
@@dananism Because only must be right and one must be wrong. Both can't be valid. One us true and the other is false. And considered there are some people who think a game that is not an RPG is an RPG (many say Zelda games are RPGs just because they are superficially similar to Final Fantasy), why not the devs? Is not as though devs were all-knowing or never made mistakes or had never used vague terms or plain lies to promote their games as something different than what they are. Chernobylite has one RPG mechanix, you earn XP you ise to by extra inventory space, to reduce the movement of guns when aiming, to make weapons deal more damage. But that XP doesn't level up. When you have level 4, you pay 4 levels for an upgrade and you are level 0 again. XP is money with a fancy name.
I don't think these are underrated, they're underplayed and/or have smaller audiences. Most of these have very high scores from a variety of reviewers, it's just that for some reason a lot of people missed or haven't tried them
I was surprised to see this isn't a massive channel. Good video, your voice is very good for it as well. I feel like you could pull off a Disco Elysium style narration. Sounds good. I will check out some of these games, but I wanted to ask how much do you like the LoL game? Is it good compared to non 'underrated' RPGs? I used to play league years ago and I like RPGs but I never cared to try this game and I really don't care about league lore but I liked Arcane well enough.
Hey man, first of all thank you for this comment, you have no idea how heart warming it is to read these type of comments as a small channel.💛 And about Ruined King, you don't need to know anything about the LOL lore, sure it would help but the game has an stand-alone story. Overall the game isn't perfect, but it's a solid 8 for a 30 dollar game. The main issue is that it is too long, and it might get boring in the second half.
"Action-RPGs" is a genre that is 90% action and 10% RPG. As an RPG gamer, I barely touch this "non genre"! If you want real turn-based, party based cRPGs that have gone under the radar, check out Caves of Lore (fantasy) and Stellar Tactics (sci-fi)!
You claim to give credit where credit is due but fail to actually do so in the list, relying on "game 1", "game 2" etc. Do what you say and say what you do.
Dude, check the description. I write down where each of the gameplay clips are taken from. Except with the official trailers and gameplay overviews. That's what I mean by "credit"; the person who recorded that gameplay footage, not the developer.
Great video but tales of arise, wasteland, kings of ruin, wyldermyth, and chain of echoes is not underated at all. Its highly regarded and its rated just right. The other games though is barely known and rated
comment 1, comment 2, comment 3. Nerd's Games doesn't value the time of their viewers and the viewers in general while ignoring the fact that forwardskip and preview pix in the timebar makes their effort null at the end. Yeah, bye bye Nerd's Games.
To be fair, I get why they are "overlooked", most of them are 2D garbage. _Tales of Arise_ looks like a super-cheap mobile game, _Cernobalyte_ looks like an artsy anti-game. There are games that can pull a following with all those lacks, but those are exceptions. There is a point where graphics matter, and these games are just not attractive for me to play at first look. The only game that got my attention was _The Ascent_ and the gameplay looks like an inferior _Diablo_ clone. _Wasteland 3_ is the only one I heard about from this list, and to be frank seeing it in this video is a reason not to play it than an endorsement. I'm saying this because when I find videos with titles like this, usually I truly discover many wonderful new games. These look like generic slop v.0.5 as opposed to the AAA generic slop v.1.
BattleBrothers, Wartales, Sand of Salzaar, and Kenshi
Bro, there are a few games here that truly are underrated gems, esp Eastward, so props there. But the majority of the others, especially stuff like Tales of Arise and The Ascent were BIG hits that EVERYONE has heard of.
The ascent got me into a new genre of gaming. Would recommend it to anyone, especially if on sale
Citizen Sleeper was fantastic. The story is really moving and draws you in, and the underlying dice mechanic is pretty uncommon in video games (and even tabletop games). I really enjoyed playing through it.
I just finished Citizen Sleeper and it is amazing! I'm glad it's on your list.

Wasteland 3's the most underrated on this list.
Yes. And the music, so great.
Completely agree. Dude earned a like for finishing with Wasteland 3
Almost all of these are on my wishlist, there are just SO MANY great games these days. You could easily make a list 10 times longer.
Good video, I like the fact that you provided enough information about each. You didn't talked too much or too little. Kudos
Thanks a lot man, this means so much to me💛
Nice compilation vídeo, man. Do more of it. Many underrated games out there
Amazing video and picks on the games, bro! Subbed and can't wait for more!
Thank you so much for your love and support, you have no idea how much it means to me. 💛💛
2:38 i thought it was my computer, for a second lol(The USB Disconecting sound)
I don't think Tales of Arise is underrated... It's more overpriced... That's the only reason I haven't buy it yet.
Didn't it win best RPG that year?
L take
Got it on sale package with Scarlet Nexus. They go on sale often, BTW. Fantastic games!
It's on gamepass and ps plus.
It's the same price as all new games???

Yeah I know what you're saying. It's specially annoying when your more than half way through. Anyways, thanks you again for your support.💛
Nice list
Legend of Legaia is top notch and a lot better than most but nobody talks about it

I had no idea Chernobylite existed so thanks for the heads up.
I had a great time w Ruined King. Not even a fan lol. Or never was anyway...

So an RPG. Got it…
@@dananism you think The Last of Us, God of War and Doom Eternal ate RPGs? Because they have the same exact RPG mechanics than Chernobylite

Half of these has nothing to do with RPGs
People just call every games RPG, the term RPG doesn't mean anything now.
Wldermyth underrated? Are you mad? Do you know how many awards it got?
Wasteland 3 is one of the best games (or at least RPGs) ever. Period.

It seems odd to put JRPGs together with western RPGs, they're so just so fundamentally different.
"With modern day storytelling" is no longer a positive description, just letting you know.
