      I completely agree. I love both LSx and Lt1's. both are very good platforms to start with. The main downside with the LT1's are the optispark, but there are ways around that.

    My first car was a 6speed 97 Z28. My dad’s old car. In 08 I was 16 and had a blast in it, sliding corners, burnouts in the school parking lot, etc. Also had my first race in it, 2000 something mustang gt wanted to race so we did... ended up waiting at the next light for him to want a rematch. Again, I ended up waiting for him at the next light... That lt1 was my first love. That’s why, to this day, I still rock my “Chevy” seatbelt belt.

      Same. Mine was a 94 Z28 that became mine when my grandpa got too old to get in and out. This was in 99. I then got a new 2001 Trans Am WS6 back in 2001. Weird thing is that my 94 Z28 felt faster. Didn't get to compare because I sold the Z to get the WS6. Maybe it was the 11k babied miles from my grandpa or a factory freak but that LT1 pulled hard. Now I have a 2017 Camaro SS. This one is definitely faster lol.

    I had a 96 ss for years. I'd still have it if a guy welding the subframes didnt light it on fire by hitting the fuel line

    The mod I prefer is weight reduction and getting power to the ground. Once I saw a tvr Tuscan on top gear that demolished three other cars just because it made full use of what was there.

    With the laws about impounding and destroying cars found at high speeds, im loving my Lt1 :) I used to be the highway guy but way too much potential to lose my car to the cops. So I play the light to light game. Most you can get is a "Display of speed" ticket. Sides an LT1 with cam and Boltons is WAY too much fun from a dig :D

      I have a 1994 Z28 LT1 6 speed. I am the second owner. I also had another 1994 Z28 6 speed and I bought the one I have now because the LT1 is pretty much bullet proof. They don't burn any noticeable oil either. I had a 2006 GTO with the 400 hp LS2 and I liked it but, when cold, the piston slap was nerve racking!

    when i was younger i hated the 4th gen camaros. the LT1 looked like a Metro and the LS1 looked like a 300M from the front. then i bought a 94 V6 (it was cheap at $500). then i sold it for my 93 Z28. i've learned to like them now.
    For those hating on the LT1, remember, it's just a regular small block chevy w/ reverse cooling (higher compression) and a weird distributor (which after changing to an MSD w/ the vent, i've never had an issue with). the LT1s did make over 300 rated HP in 97.

    I have a 1995 Camaro but idk if it is the LTI, the Z28 or the SS because there is no extra Logo on the back and the side fender was replaced! Any help on figuring out which model i have?

    Depends on the year.ls1 are from 98-02 both the SS and Z28 have it. The LT1 are the ones before that 97

    damn it those were the good ole days,i had a vette lt1 in my 96 s10 with a 5 speed in 1998 and it was fast as hell,i just did a 6.0 cammed LS in a 05 blazer same set up 5 speed 373 gears and its a dog on the bottom end im so bummed out,i spent a ton of money,wish i could do it over i know what i would buy,a lt1 or lt4 and do cam and heads,with my 5 speed and gears and be happy as hell,damn nation fuck LS

    Looks like every time the Lt1 launched, it looks like he had traction issues.... still, both cars are damn fast and very nice looking. My 95 is in the shop for a total makeover...damn I miss it especially when im passing someone in the wife's minivan :(...... But she'll be coming back out in Feb with a 383 Stroker, cam, and all bolt ons :D

    LT1 is the best bang for the buck and with ported heads and a cam it will smoke a stock ls1 which is about double the price of a lt1

      G11B Well that just shows how uneducated you are about cars lol, the Lt1 was also in the ss, and the vette. You talk nonsense, I state facts! The ls1 feels like a rice burner down low lol, no low end torque. And big deal---the big bad ls1 makes about 330-350 crank horsepower stock. For 1200 bucks My engine will make around 450 at the crank. Enjoy your overpriced 340 hp rice burner for double the price!

      G11B My 96 z28 is a six speed that makes maybe 300 crank hp right now so if we went to the strip your ws6 would pull me for sure if you can get the tires to hook up. Ws6's are actually nice. I just prefer the looks of the old lt1's and like the low end torque they make. I got it 3 months ago garage kept looks almost new for 6000. I also was looking at a 2000 Ls1 SLP edition Camaro for 13000 but couldn't justify spending that much more money for 50 more hp. When my engine grenades it's going to become a 383 stroker with Lloyd Elliot heads which will make the car capable of high 11's in the quarter but of course these crappy 10 bolts rear ends will grenade with that much power. We used to have a 81 Camaro with trick flow heads that would destroy all these new cars but it got sold. Point is any of these cars are fast as sh$t with some mods. Car likes and dislikes are all personal preference so who gives a hoot who likes your car and who doesn't. Girls love my car lol.

      G11B u be swerving like a drunk with that going on lol, the good old iroc tpi 250 hp! The ws6's have pretty sweet looking front ends and rear ends unlike the ls1 Camaros. Ironically I seen a pretty nice condition modded up iroc in the walmart parking lot today, old school!!!!!!!!!!!

      G11B Lol this guy is a hilarious troll. LT1's were in vettes from 92-96 and trans ams, z/28's, ss camaros, and ws6's from 93-97. Lol, just lol at this guy. Also the IROC's had 235 hp with the 5.7, I had two IROCs with a 5.0 while growing up.

    the LS1 is better at top end the LT1 beats you off the line i would take either one.of coarse i would take the LT1 over the LS1 to have a 383 stroker

    Most people dont know that factory ls1 cars are both heabier and only about 30 whp stronger, and the LT1 has a way different power band than the ls1

      That low end at that time was only equaled by a bike. 93 28, most lts have high gears cause the tires scared them. Make sure your lt had z rated tires

    i got 28 in mine with a moser 9" and 3.89 gears :) all in the tune. T56s are badass for mpgs, and they are bullet proof.

    like em both, the lt4 has blk taillights right? would drive the hell outta both. i do have an blk ls1/b4c police pkg z28 w/badge delete. but my last camaro was a 95. not taking sides on this, love em both. camaro 4 life. my 5th one so far.

      I owned many V8's and for some reason the 97 LT1's were animals out from the factory line. Own a 99SS but man something about that LT1........................

    Still the baddest ass cars on the planet... Own a '98 Z/28 GU5 Auto Black on ZR1 wheels and it grabs attention more so than any ricer or 5.0 does. It's LS1 camaros and everything else. Firebirds have that boy racer look, camaros are understated and bad ass.

    @MoreThanJackass Yeah the LS1 is going to be faster. LT1 is a good motor (i persoanlly found it a pain to work on heh), makes good low end torque and all. If it's in the budget though, I'd take an ls1 over it for anything.

    the only thing i don't like about my 93 Z28 (hardtop), is that its an auto. but for $1500 (still mad for passing on a 94 Z28 1LE cause it needed a trans (2nd and 3rd were gone)for $1800, a teenager owned it), i can't complain. it now has an MSD pro Billit distributor, high flow cat, custom exhaust, K&N air filter and 10" wide meats out back (they rub a little). i get about 23mpgs. but if i really wanna go fast, i just drive my 73 AMX.

    The stock taillights belongs to the LT1 the spoiler is how to distinguish the cars apart, a 97 and older SS don't have the two post in the spoiler

    @DcEvoIX 97 was a good year, they had ls1 interior as well. honestly, i like the lt1 front ends as much as ls1's when done up nicely. I'm still workin on my ls1 front end. i hate the way they look stock, especially the headlights. The no grille direction(with the mount holes filled in) and a harwood 2.5in cowl hood. Should be pretty sweet looking on my set up.

    Gatta LT1 Corvette. guy in an 04 GTO stayed right beside me till we hit 75. his is 10 years newer and had a hard time beating an old sports car. LT1 isn't all that bad. 300 horsepower is plenty.

    most likely due to not so high priced aftermarket parts compared to the LS1. I'd take a LS1 Z tho. Have never driven a LS1 camaro but I have driven a fully built LS1 in a RX7 and just a cammed one in a 240sx. Thing has tons of power man.

    Its mainly in the exhaust and how it was done. You can take a ls1 and make sound nasty. But most of the time with flow master and cats, and Y's or X's they will always sound tamer.
    But they flow air and out preform so much more than just about any other motor.

      Wet Orpheus plan on front and rear main seals leaking and the optispark(distributor) going out and thats about it my friend lol and best bang for buck on an lt1 is full exhaust, intake, tune, and gears!

      i actually was in that same debate about the ls1 or lt1. Obviously ls1 makes more power but the camaro is much heavier than the vette and honestly it couldnt handle like the c4 around turns nearly as fast because of ride height and the weight.     had 01ram air TA,now 97 z28,stock lt1,both fun but ls1,bone stock torque off line, is the difference,mid and top end,my z stock doesn't have that feeling.but both Chevy powerplants.

    Run the LS 1 with the A Vette LT 1 or it's big brother LT 4 and it's not even close. My 96 vette LT 4 Made 391hp Factory. It was supposed to be 330. Very underrated engines.

      The LT4 Did not make 391hp factory. It was rated at 330 and probably made about 350. Very similar to the LS Engine, but had more torque.
      BTW, I have dyno sheets and own one. Go to my channel and check it out. 96 CE 6spd.

      @@TheDonCucaracho Yes, LT's are Iron Block/Aluminum Heads in Performance Applications. LS's are all aluminum.

      TheDonCucaracho ........ The LS 5.7 (325-350-400hp) have aluminum block's. There's 2 different LS 6.0 (345-400hp) one is Iron a block with aluminum head's witch was a truck engine the other LS 6.0 is aluminum block. LS 6.2 (425-450hp) all are aluminum and there are 2 different LS 5.3 (280-290hp)one is a iron block with aluminum head's witch also was a truck engine and the other LS 5.3 (300-315hp) H.O high output engine in car's is aluminum block with aluminum head's. LS 4.8(270hp) I think all 4.8 is iron blocks with aluminum head's....I hope this helps you.............

    I'd hope stock for stock they would be a second faster. they only cost about twice as much. You like everyone else on this thread likes to go off topic. When all i said was its cheaper to just buy a lt1 and mod it to be faster than the same dollar amount you would buy a stock ls1 for.

    There are also lsx motors making well over 2000 hp and some even over 3000 hp so your point is irrelevant. You can put a shit tone of money into any motor and make it too much for the street. My point is that an 8 cylinder motor is always "capable" of making more hp than a 6 or 4 cylinder. Whether it does make more or not is entirely dependent on the parts its comprised of. You can get mad and curse all you want but in the end I'm right about that.

    the LS1 has 15* valve angles ,the LT1 has 23* valve angles .you can get 12 * LS heads .

    I have owned completely stock versions of both purchased new, a 97 metallic Green Z28.LT1.6spd & a Pewter 99 SS T-Top ( a little heavier than the non T-Top Z28 ). LS1.6spd... The LS1 is in another league & so much better than the LT1 especially mid range & top end.. That is where the LT1 nose dived & quit pulling

    I don't think people understand the difference between these two engines. The lt1 is one of the highest performing gen 2 small blocks ever. They dropped it for a newly designed gen 3 for a reason. I love my 350 vortec, but even with cam, bolt ons and tune I am even with 5.3 engine with bolt ons.

      you're a 1000% correct, the Lt1 was top dog, then GM Re-Designed the heads for better flow added an more aggressive cam (857, I think but don't quote me on that), a few more things (cam springs, timing chain) and whooa! the LT4 was born. The differents between the LT engines in Camaro's or Trans Am's and the ones in the GM flagship Corvette was the vette's had a four bolt main while the Camaro and T/A's had two. But here's the crazy part, if you had either Camaro or T/A you could have also had a four bolt main GM didn't distinguish between the two, they just separated the Camaro and T/A's from their flagship vette by changing rear differentials and air fuel ratios through its computer. When GM decided to update the vette, they starting with dropping in the LT4's, (Skunk Works) Now things get crazy again, when GM decided to make its LS series they dropped the LT4'S...and guess where they went...exactly straight into Camaro's and T/A 's and GM didn't make this known to the general public which car had which, only if you were on your P&Q's the engine displacement was in the Vehicle Identification Numbers. The LT4'S outperformed the LS1 vette and a LT1 with mod's will run like the wind...I own a 97 T/A and it still runs ok...the secret is the old LT1's and LT4'S transmission(460LE)shift points after 2nd gear keeps the engine RPM's below 2000...

      +Michael Angel exactly real gm gear heads know the deal. Same with those old 396 camaros since it was the hot engine, but some people ended up with 427s little did they know just re badge. Prime reason why i want a 96/97 camaro because of that chance its a lt4 and it might have the 323 or 342 rear end.

      +TheKJProductionz Ls still isn't running gears it likes either. Ls has a longer and stronger powerband. Very consistent vs the lt, which falls on its face pretty much the same time the Ls hits it's powerband.

    @Hellz420 just look at the tail lights the 98+ camaros have the amber in the bottom corner thats why my 01 z28 has the old tail lights so people behind me think it's an lt1 they don't get much of a chance to see my head lights lol just the tails getting smaller as I take off

    Ok but if its motor to motor we're talking about then you're wrong. If we're talking all motor V8 to motor + turbo 2.0-3.0L then you are correct. But in that case you are using a turbo to achieve the same power as an all motor V8. That's comparing apples to oranges. The V8's can put that power to the street w/ large tires/drag radials. For your information I have a 97 Camaro Z28 and its in very good condition. If you don't believe me then view my profile and watch the videos of it on there.

      Yes, its your first gear/reverse synchronizer. It will start popping out of reverse eventually. I am probably 7 years too late on this reply. I still have a 94 z28 6 speed. Less than 100k on it and I baby this one. My first one I ran hard and it still never let me down.

My first 94 z28 started popping out of reverse and had trouble getting it in first and a good mechanic friend of mine said that first and reverse gear sychronizers use the same gear.     @DcEvoIX 97 was a good year, they had ls1 interior as well. honestly, i like the lt1 front ends as much as ls1's when done up nicely, even tho i have a ls1 front end. I'm still workin on my plans for the front end, i hate the way they look stock, especially the headlights. I'm gonna go the no grille direction(with the mount holes filled in) and a harwood 2.5in cowl hood. Should look pretty badass on my set up.

    Your just saying one thing and I'm saying another. I'm saying parts are cheaper for LT1 than a LS1. Care to elaborate on that subject? Oh and your gonna spend more just to buy a LS1 over LT1. So no matter how you look at it: LS1 costs a noticeable amount more to do the same set of mods as a LT1. Wouldn't you be able to build something more if its cheaper and it saves you more money?

    lt1 are great engines with everybit as much potentiel as la1 they just had over heating problems. 97 lt1 94 t56 411 gears good exaust all the way and bye bye stock ss. o and good tires

      my LT1 runs cool cruises down the road at 180 degrees on a warm day, it actually runs cooler then the couple of 305/350's that i had before i bought my LT1

    lt1 might be a 6sp, then yes....probably would against a 4l60e.
    The author said the lt1 looking camaro is his with the ls in it, so this video is confusing as hell.

    Also I daily drive an 08 Subaru Impreza and all of my friends of 4 cylinders and 6 cylinders. (3) STI's, (1) 350Z, (1) RSX, (2) Audi A4, (1) BMW 328xi, (1) VW GTI, (1) BMW E30. So don't take this as me hating on the 2.0-3.0L. I have much respect for them and what they're capable of. But motor to motor fully built they will not equal the same power as the V8. Sorry.
