    Regarding the somber tone of Hometown Glory this is from the wiki: "Adele wrote the song within 10 minutes, when she was only 16 years old, after her mother tried to persuade her to leave her home suburb of West Norwood in London for university. Hometown Glory is the first song that Adele ever wrote." So I'd say the piano melody is a feeling of loss, longing and nostalgia.

      I also think that it was her celebrating but saying goodbye to her world in a sense because once she went to the BRIT school, her world would be forever changed and I think somewhere deeply, Adele knew that. I don't think she ever imagined herself to be famous, just in a completely different phase of life. Once you leave your hometown, you're always a visitor and it's never the same anymore but it's also always a part of you. That's how I experience/interpret the song though so the arrangement and production of it always made sense to me through that lens.

    This was the album when I fell in love with her. Imagine seeing her in a small theater with no seats....just a few hundred of us standing close to the stage a couple years before she was a household word. Phoenix - March 2009 - Marquee Theater - Unforgettable.

    I feel people missed out on Adele when she used to do small settings. I was never old enough to get in when I lived in North London but we used to go stand outside to listen to her. Just little Adele and her guitar.

    I love this album, so raw and creative. I have had a harder time relating to her later albums. Seems now most of her songs are just straight ballads.

    17:30 she has said in the past that most of the songs she wrote way before she was signed, so that might explain the “simplicity” of some songs

    OOh I love the song of the week choice! Never had a full listen to that album but with your words, I think I'll definitely give it a listen once I'm finished with my coursework! Loved this video, Dan :) 19 was the first Adele record I ever heard and I was in America at the time and my friends in the UK skype video shared her album with me so that we could have a listening party :D The album holds a really special place in my life because I'd never heard anyone near my age (Adele's about 7 years older than me) sing with the strong lower register and play vocally (I love Regina Spektor for her vocal mechanics and stylized writing) so I attribute a revitalized love for song to Adele's music. 19 is the most accessible to sing to of her albums and I find it grows with each listen--but I also tend toward more singer-songwriter style anyways to out my own bias). Hope you're having a lovely weekend! --Emrys

      Yeah you have to give that album a listen especially if you like singer-songwriter vibes! Sam's first album is full of beautifully melancholic melodies and arrangements it's so good ❤️

    Hi! Thank you for interesting reactions to Adele.
    Just want to say that songs on 19th are not all about the same person, about the same relationship. For example My Same is NOT even about a boy, it's about a girl, Adele's friend. After 21 I spent quite some time time listening to her interviews, music (there are actually some videos of her early performances in pubs or libraries, etc.), finding out articles and reactions to her early performances. That's how I found out for example what My Same is all about.

    I think you might have missed the twist in Daydreamer
    "What I'm saying is just what I'm hoping for"
    The man she's describing isn't real and she's daydreamed up a perfect guy.

    • @donaldsimmonsjr
      @donaldsimmonsjr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adele said in a Bonnaroo Music Festival interview that "Daydreamer" is about a man she was in love with, who later came out, moved away and fell for "one of (her) gay friends." - Adele's words, not mine.
      Search "Bonnaroo Festival 2009 Adele" on TH-cam and the interview might come up!
