Beatiful car as always, I love the old customs. Unfurtunately customs from this era ended up on used car lots ,used up and lost forever. The Hirohata Mercury was one of those cars and the original surfaced only after a clone had been built.
Beautiful and very similar to Doug Rice’s ‘39 Ford coupe, also built just after WW2 and still around. You can see more about it if you Google ‘Doug Rice 1939 Ford coupe’.
Sorry to nitpick but you say that its a Hot Rod magazine cover car and show the September 1948 cover. Did you actually look at the cover as its not on it? It was a Hot Rod magazine feature car. A small but important difference.
That car is sexy! The rear end has more curves than the Girl from Ipanema, here in Rio, Brazil. On the other hand that cd player on the dash should go...
Absolutely love it. So glad it has been saved

It was featured in issue #57 of The Rodders Journal.
Rock Star car. Cause when you drive it you feel like a rock srar.
Exactly!
like butta...and that ain't toast.
Why hasn’t anyone done a Volkswagen Beetle, Ford Prefect or Renault 4CV like this? They really lend themselves to the early taildragger look.

Yep. You’re right. Thought it was cover when I said it. Was too late to make the correction when I was editing.
Nice
One hundred and sixty five RWP on a good day is my guess.
Probably closer to accurate than I was
Regardless, still a great classic hot rod.
