I think that's a similar car that Clark Kent (George Reeves) drove in the TV show The Adventures of Superman. Reeves was definitely driving in style, that's for sure. Love the quality of that car -- and the turn signals! It's little wonder that car retailed for almost $6K in 1953.
Here's a photo of George Reeves driving his Nash on the set of "The Adventures of Superman"...i.imgur.com/kY1CXah.jpg By the way George Reeves owned this car.
Wow! My education continues! I wasn’t very aware of these cars, beyond recognizing the name Nash Healy - never even knew they did a roadster! This would be perfect for my “mountain road roadster”. What an absolute beauty! I’d truly LOVE to get behind the wheel of this car. My same buddy with the Hawks had a Nash “businessman’s coupe” with the seats that folded down into a bed, and that was the only experience I’ve had with Nash. That in-line 6 cylinder engine is an amazing piece of engineering. Thanks again, Lou.
Hi Cherry Picker Guitars, You don't see them to often, so happy to share this rare treat with you :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Styling by pininfarina!! That's why I always thought that this car has an Italian flair to it. Though the speedometer looks like expensive Swiss watch. The little green turn signal bulb puts a smile on my face too. I must admit that for a second there I thought, that "Why does it have a windscreen washer activator under the pedal?" Silly me 😅. Unexpectedly big trunk for a convertible roadster, not even the spare wheel takes away any space. The sound of the engine...so well taken care of. Good job to Larry and everyone involved 🔧.
Back in those days, any product associated with Nash had to be of high quality. This car was the high point of that association. Even though the Nash regular car design soon became dated this car's design is timeless. Thanks to the owner and Lou. This is an especially great car for My Car Story as the vast majority of your viewers have never seen one in the real or on video.
Hey LOU, you ol’ bamboozler & paisano you! You know me by now! Dandy car! With that beautiful wine color, this car SCREAMS for WHITEWALLS to bring out the beauty of the color!!! But then, whitewalls may be “out of character” for a car like this. A convertible, in ultra hot Mesa territory, you better have an extra full “AFRO” head of hair or you’ll quickly become a well done roast beef!!! You wouldn’t make it Lou! I can tell, this owner did NOT leave his “moola in Ashtabula”! You can’t do dat & live in Mesa! Love ya, “mein freund”!!!
Amazing car Lou you obviously have quite a catalog of owners to pull from. Those amazing creations would love to get around to these museums and car shows.
Hi David, Happy to read you're enjoying this amazing car and the selection of cars and Care Takers I'm sharing with you :-) My pleasure sharing with you, Lou
Another stunner - beautiful car. Very impressive. Larry is a great caretaker for this rolling piece of art. I’ve said it before but it warrants repeating, love the channel Lou. Thanks for bringing these to us.
Hi Jeff, Only thing better that a a 1953 Nash Healey is having a Coupe too :-) Stay tuned to see that one in the future. My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Lou, you summarized it so well with the word "fantastic". What a special car Larry has there. It is a one of a kind vehicle and shows how smaller car makers really made some beautiful and innovative vehicles. Kudos to Larry for letting us get a glimpse of this gem. As always great work Lou in bringing these cars to your viewers. Many thanks.
My father told me a story once about advising his friend to buy a Nash, and how great it was. He got to drive it sometimes as he and his friends let each other drive one another's cars. Last couple times he drove it he noticed that the oil hadn't been changed in a while and mentioned it to his friend who said don't worry about it. A short time later he walked over to my dad's house and sullenly told him that he should have listened to him, that the engine went on him. His friend always regretted that, said it was the best car he ever owned. I doubt it was one of these beautiful convertibles or coupes, but imagine it was pretty darn nice.
That Nash Healey has a Mercedes vibe about it from side profile. This is such a smooth looking car with just the right amount of style and amenities!!!
Now that's a car that you don't see every day! That's the second one of those Nash Healey convertibles I have ever seen. That car is a little sweetheart! The first one I saw was at the St. Louis Car Museum, and it wasn't nearly as pretty as the example you featured! I love that interior in that car! Wow!
I have some race brochures from 52-54 where they feature many Euro cars of that time, and this car is highly acclaimed as 1 of the best in its class. 1 article says that it's the road racer, "you have to have" if you're doing any Italian endurance racing. I've never seen 1 in person, but thx for sharing this with us Lou!
Hi, Lou! Nash had some real standouts among its mainstream cars, particularly its 1949-1951 "Airflyte" models and the early Ramblers, so it's no surprise they could come up with a sports car like the Healey. The interior is exquisite with the leather seats and very distinctive dashboard with the green bulb turn signals, and with those closely set headlights, you would definitely know if this car was coming in your direction at night! Thanks to you, Larry and Hayden for taking us along! Look forward to seeing the coupe!
Hi iswc27, Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Happy to read the details you enjoy in this interior. My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
What a beautiful example of automotive design and performance. Listening to that lopey cam is music to my ears. The torque number on this little 6 is amazing no wonder it did well on the track. Thanks for another great video, Lou. These rare automobiles are such interesting examples of engineering and style perfectly combined and brought to life by true craftsmen.
Knew of these cars as a kid along with the song "The Little Nash Rambler" and the time course trophy winning Austin Healy Sprite family had in the late '60s early '70s. Never knew enough. Hollywood sports car. I can imagine Clark Gable owning one. Thanx, Lou.
Watched the movie "Sabrina" several times. The original with Humphrey Bogart, Audrey Hepburn, and William Holden... NOT the modern remake. And, I have ALWAYS wondered what Holden's car was. Well, thank you... now I know. It was a Nash Healey Roadster. What a beautiful car!!!!!
Hi Don F, Happy to read seeing this video finally lets you now know what kind of car Holden's car is. My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
I've always appreciated the independent American manufacturers like Nash. This proves that they had the ability to bring out beautiful designs like Detroit but on far more limited resources.
GREETINGS. From Venezuela. WOW! An STUNINGS NASH CONVERTIBLE. The Burgundy paint is BEAUTIFUL 🌇 Mr . Lou, Super Thank you for sharing this GORGEOUS NASH CONVERTIBLE. Mr. Lou, Thank for taking us for a ride.
Wow,,,, I have a 1952 Nash Healey basket case car that I have hauled around with me for 40 years,,,, now that I am retired I hope to put it back on the road!!!!!!
Saw one at a show in Massachusetts once. I think that was my only in-person sighting of a Nash Healey. : ) Thanks for sharing Lou!! Awesome find, as always.
Lou, Have them toot the horns, esp. when they end with the drive by. Neat Nash, for sure. The pad around the dash was ahead of the times and that turn signal is cool ASF. Thanks again!
Hi Pat, I like the horn toot idea, and I'll see if I can remember that as so many times I get enamored with the car when I see it I forget quite a bit because I'm so excited :-) Glad you enjoy the turn signal light. You're welcome, Lou
Those instruments couldn't be beat. What a work of art. I only wish they had cut the rear wheelwells round like the front ones, Though. That must have cost Nash a fortune, to have the drivetrain shipped to Italy, in order to get the body dropped, and then ship the rest to England for the chassis- and engine tuning and also the frame
Great looking Nash Healy. I remember watching American Pickers buy one about the same year model it was a coupe and someone had put a Cadillac motor in it. It had been raced at one time. I always found these cars very interesting but you never see them at car shows.
Another fine video. People need to know about these very interesting vehicles thanks Lou. Now here's a challenge for you find a "Playboy", a little doozy made right here in Buffalo New York, Our vehicle...my DW's Grandmothers first and only new car. A 1953 Ford Crestline Victoria...unrestored original.
Hey big bro Lou! There ya are out west, man! Oh boy, this car is one helluva little beauty. That body by Pininfarina makes a guy weak in da knees. Fascinating how the mechanical parts are English (love that raspy straight 6 blat), and the body is Italian....has such character, and so artful. Love it! :) JV Johnny
That is great looking Nash thanks Lou. I love most cars and trucks that were built before 1990 when they where building them with quilty, style, and, class. Again thanks Lou you channel aways is deserving of my 👍👍
What a gorgeous automobile! From the design to how well the restoration was done. Bravo! Love the dash and gauges, true jewelry and art. Is the turn signal switch knob made from "Bakelite"? Very cool feature! Can't miss if you left the signal on, lol. Last question.. Is Don Healey the same person of "Austin/Healey? If so, did the Nash collab come before the Austin? Thx Lou, great vid. 😀
Hi Patrick, Happy to read "true jewelry and art" :-) Not sure what the switch is made from. or the other questions. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge can share the answer to your questions. Lou
My obsession car, was in the movie Sabrina with Bogart, Holden and A Hepburn. The plans for this car were made on a voyage between Don Healy and Charles Nash, but it was too expensive to rate sales in U.S. when finally placed in Nash showrooms only elites could afford one

So different from the Nash autos of that post-war era. Not noted is that this car is a product of Nash-Kelvinator. Kelvinator will be recognized by the older population as the appliance company making refrigerators. One had a large assortment of cars to choose from, sadly most have disappeared. Then there were over 20 US made, now . . . .
Such cool sports cars and so innovative for the era. Even the stock versions were full of features and power. I'd have much preferred one of these over the intro Corvette if I'd been in the market. Sadly was embryonic back then
Only have seen these clutch pedal operated starter buttons and wondered if there is an auto cut out so that every time you hit the pedal it does not re engage the starter?
Nash automobiles of that era were all built as unibodies, except for the Healey. The NH had a chassis and the front end was employed a trailing link suspension of Healey design, The transmission was a three speed as indicated but came standard with overdrive for a fourth ratio. The wheelbase on the roadster was 102", the coupe was on 108" and had a larger interior. This roadster was not the one raced at LeMans. This was: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nash-Healey#/media/File:1952_Nash-Healey_Competition_Roadster_X8,_Greenwich_2019_(front_right).jpg

Maybe I'm wrong. I don't know. But I'm convinced that there was a Nash Healey in the movie "Sabrina" with Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn. If someone knows, please let me know. I love this car and I really do think Bogey drove one in that 1954 movie. ...or maybe it was William Holden. Honestly, I don't know. I will see if it's available on Amazon.
Hi David, Happy to read you "love this car" :-) I'm not sure if Humphrey Bogart drove a Nash Healey in a movie, however hoping a Viewer can share knowledge, Lou
Lou, was this car brought together by Nash and the English car maker who made the Austin-Healey’s? I know nothing of this car except it is a sweetheart of a ride! Thx Lou!
Hi Dave, From Wikipedia - The Nash-Healey is a two-seat luxury sports car or gran turismo produced between 1951 and 1954 and marketed by the automaker Nash-Kelvinator as a halo vehicle to promote sales of the other Nash models in North America. A mating of the upscale Nash Ambassador drivetrain and a handmade European chassis and body, it was the first sports car introduced in the U.S. by a major automaker since the Great Depression.[2] It was the product of the partnership between Nash-Kelvinator and British automaker Donald Healey. Only a year after introduction the car received some styling tweaks by Pinin Farina and subassembly began in Italy. A racing version, built with a spartan aluminum body, finished third in the 1952 Le Mans 24-hour race.
...hey, Lou...snowbirding, again, I see...Larry has a huge and varied collection in Mesa, and not a personal criticism..but he obviously delights in a large collection which usually means that he's not necessarily passionate about any of them, unlike most of the other guys you feature...Hayden, I'm assuming, is the one who mechanically maintains the collection for the Rhodium Collection... ...these coupes and roadsters were the result of Nash-Kelvinator's alliance with PininFarina design studios as part of the 1949 radical styling overhaul, which introduced the smooth, swept-sided and round-backed designs for the Custom, Statesman and Ambassador marques (a collaboration which continued with the new compact Nash Ramblers, and the later sub-compact Metropolitans) ... ...Nash CEO George Mason and British sports car maker Donald Healey met aboard the Cunard Liner RMS Queen Elizabeth eastbound from New York to Southampton, after an unsuccessful attempt by Healey to obtain Cadillac motors for his Healey Silverstone racer... ...Mason harbored the desire to add a true sports car to the Nash lineup, and Healey saw an opportunity to profit from building the chassis for Mason... ...so a business triangle between Nash, Healey and Pinin Farina resulted...Nash supplied the powerful Ambassador motors and drivetrain, Healey mated them to his chassis, and then shipped them to Pinin Farina for the coachwork (body)... ...this made the Nash Healey a truly cosmopolitan, but VERY expensive car...due to the shipping and tariffs, the '53 roadster came in at just over $5,800, nearly twice the price of Chevrolet's new Corvette at $3,513... ...due to the pricing issue alone, (it was more expensive than a same year Cadillac Fleetwood), sales were very limited, with a total of only 162 for the '53; and a total production for ALL coupes, roadsters and race editions between 1951 and 1955 of just 506... ...car aficionados knew during production that they were destined to be collector rarities...and the fact that nearly all buyers were wealthy families with multiple stall carriage houses, meant that a huge percentage were saved...and in low mileage condition... ...Pinin Farina contracted with a Swiss watch company to create the jewel-like instrument clusters, which you so admired... ...the production "love triangle" was shattered by Healey's merger with Austin Motor Cars Ltd., and Austin's retooling the Healey plant at Warwick for the new Austin-Healey 100... ...a number of left-over '54 Nash Healeys were sold in early 1955, and that, as they say, was that... ...well, Lou, enjoy your stay in the Valley of the Sun...😉🌞😎

What's wrong with that engine? Maybe the valves need adjustment? That's the noisiest Nash 6 I've heard. Doesn't look like a Nash? Look at the front end. That's a Nash.

Now here's a challenge for you find a "Playboy", a little doozy made right here in Buffalo New York,
Our vehicle...my DW's Grandmothers first and only new car. A 1953 Ford Crestline Victoria...unrestored original.
Hi Maj. Tom, Well if I see it, and the Care Taker is willing to video & share it, you'll see it too. Thanks for the tip, and stay tuned, Lou
Hey Bro JV Johnny, I'm happy read you enjoy this car which has styling from several countries :-) Glad to read you "Love it", Lou
Cool he has both a Coupe and a Convertible....
Nice to have one of each :-)
Looks like he has a very nice variety of cars in his collection ...
Stay tuned, there will be more from this collection :-)
that speedo pod is just like those big ole blimpe nashes in the 1950 s i forget what they called those pods but there was a nickname JS
Hi Randy, Thanks for sharing the details you notice, Lou
That is great looking Nash thanks Lou. I love most cars and trucks that were built before 1990 when they where building them with quilty, style, and, class. Again thanks Lou you channel aways is deserving of my 👍👍
Hi Matt, Thank you for the "double thumbs up" for this car :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you, and you're welcome, Lou
@@loucostabile Lou your channel is always cool and worth watching.👍👍
What a gorgeous automobile! From the design to how well the restoration was done. Bravo! Love the dash and gauges, true jewelry and art. Is the turn signal switch knob made from "Bakelite"? Very cool feature! Can't miss if you left the signal on, lol. Last question.. Is Don Healey the same person of "Austin/Healey? If so, did the Nash collab come before the Austin? Thx Lou, great vid. 😀
You’re so right - The dash and gauges are amazing. I love the turn signal lever.

Then there were over 20 US made, now . . . .
Hi Old Town, Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
Such cool sports cars and so innovative for the era. Even the stock versions were full of features and power. I'd have much preferred one of these over the intro Corvette if I'd been in the market. Sadly was embryonic back then
Hi Tony, Happy to read you enjoy this "Such cool sports cars and so innovative for the era" car :-) Lou
A very interesting Hybrid between Nash and Healey ...
Thank you for sharing.
Amazing attention to detail!
Agreed.
Only have seen these clutch pedal operated starter buttons and wondered if there is an auto cut out so that every time you hit the pedal it does not re engage the starter?
Hmmm, not sure. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge can share the answer to your question.
Hayden's Chick Magnet! 😂 Such eye candy. Italians know style.👍
Hi StuckInMyGarage, Happy to read you enjoy this "Chick Magnet!" :-) Lou
Nice growl for a 6!
Just the way we like it :-)
Wondering the original lightweight Nash-Healey that placed third in the 1952 Le Mans 24-hour race still exist in America?
Hi boson, Hmmm, I don't know, however maybe a Viewer can share knowledge to your question, Lou
This was:

I sure hope they put a roll cage in them for racing.Ill bet there isn't 20 of them in the US.
Hi Richard, Roll cage is a good idea. Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-) Lou

@@loucostabile I have subscribed and watched some of them already. Great channel
Thanks
My pleasure and you're welcome.
@@loucostabile Thx Lou for info on this beautiful car.

Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy this "Nice" car :-) Lou
That was one that Nash got right.
Happy to read you enjoy this car :-)
For a while, I thought Lou was driving the "Le Mans" roadster.
I like the way you think :-)
Kind of a forerunner to the AMC Javelin and AMX....
Thank you for sharing.
chingon
Thank you :-)
Lou pokes into a hen's mouth again and finds yet another tooth 🦷😂. And that is definitely NOT grandma's Nash 🤔
Hi Terry M, The hen may not be smiling with a lost tooth, however after reading your comment, I am :-) Lou
...hey, Lou...snowbirding, again, I see...Larry has a huge and varied collection in Mesa, and not a personal criticism..but he obviously delights in a large collection which usually means that he's not necessarily passionate about any of them, unlike most of the other guys you feature...Hayden, I'm assuming, is the one who mechanically maintains the collection for the Rhodium Collection...
...these coupes and roadsters were the result of Nash-Kelvinator's alliance with PininFarina design studios as part of the 1949 radical styling overhaul, which introduced the smooth, swept-sided and round-backed designs for the Custom, Statesman and Ambassador marques (a collaboration which continued with the new compact Nash Ramblers, and the later sub-compact Metropolitans) ...
...Nash CEO George Mason and British sports car maker Donald Healey met aboard the Cunard Liner RMS Queen Elizabeth eastbound from New York to Southampton, after an unsuccessful attempt by Healey to obtain Cadillac motors for his Healey Silverstone racer...
...Mason harbored the desire to add a true sports car to the Nash lineup, and Healey saw an opportunity to profit from building the chassis for Mason...
...so a business triangle between Nash, Healey and Pinin Farina resulted...Nash supplied the powerful Ambassador motors and drivetrain, Healey mated them to his chassis, and then shipped them to Pinin Farina for the coachwork (body)...
...this made the Nash Healey a truly cosmopolitan, but VERY expensive car...due to the shipping and tariffs, the '53 roadster came in at just over $5,800, nearly twice the price of Chevrolet's new Corvette at $3,513...
...due to the pricing issue alone, (it was more expensive than a same year Cadillac Fleetwood), sales were very limited, with a total of only 162 for the '53; and a total production for ALL coupes, roadsters and race editions between 1951 and 1955 of just 506...
...car aficionados knew during production that they were destined to be collector rarities...and the fact that nearly all buyers were wealthy families with multiple stall carriage houses, meant that a huge percentage were saved...and in low mileage condition...
...Pinin Farina contracted with a Swiss watch company to create the jewel-like instrument clusters, which you so admired...
...the production "love triangle" was shattered by Healey's merger with Austin Motor Cars Ltd., and Austin's retooling the Healey plant at Warwick for the new Austin-Healey 100...
...a number of left-over '54 Nash Healeys were sold in early 1955, and that, as they say, was that...
...well, Lou, enjoy your stay in the Valley of the Sun...😉🌞😎

Interior doesn't look like a race car classy for it period.
Hi Tim C, Thank you for sharing, Lou
What's wrong with that engine? Maybe the valves need adjustment? That's the noisiest Nash 6 I've heard. Doesn't look like a Nash? Look at the front end. That's a Nash.
