    Thank you for promoting the best parts of this trade we have found ourselves in, but Inquisitive and investigative and holding a positive attitude. This stuff can be tons of fun and rewarding. Some facilities are not very welcoming or receptive to inquiring operators but don't lose heart my fellow Operators.

    Great video. We run the same disk thickener at our plant. Problem we are having is we use a rotary lobe pump to pump the thickened sludge to our digester. If the thickened sludge is too dry we tend to cavitate the pump.

      Yes viscosity can be a real problem when pushing high concentrations of solids for most any pump.

    You did very well, just one thing you should have done a Filtrate samples to check the capture rate to ensure you are not sending more solids back, you are clear and good data.

    We got that dried curse delivered, stored in moist mixing room, and a pain to clean without chlorine... Then, I would run many bags up to the sbr's for daily use. It was also horrid in the eyes.. The wind would blow it around while we dumped it.. I hated that stuff.. Thanks for the memories.

      I admire your guts to handle the sludge. 98% of the people I know would scream if they even saw it. I did sampling of it, many times. Weigh, cook, re weigh, record, do another

      I don’t think I have seen that
      But if you found enough poly to coat the pellets I would think you’d want to reduce dosing

      @@WastewaterOperationsChannel I have a case where anaerobic pellets are fully coated, encased, leading to anaerobic sludge washout by flotation from their own gas. I can't come with a reasonable explanation. Surface tensioner has been my first thought but Polymer dosages have been triple checked reduced without any benefit :/ Anyway, great channel thanks you for taking the time to answer.

    Very helpful with optimizing I work in water treatment at a plating company and I had no idea that my water was so cloudy because I was using too much floculent and it’s really important my water is as clear as possible because we evaporate it and the extra particles mean I have to empty and clean the evaporator tank more often, and we have around 10,000 gallons of built up waste sooo can’t exactly stop processing very often. So that’s my long way of saying thank you you gave me the things to look for and try.
    P.s all I got was a crash course and told good luck at my company when I decided to take over water treatment have been doing it for less then a week

    Excellent video!! Don't remember all the specifics of the polymer we were using. But it worked great! However, keeping it properly dialed-in to prevent over or under dosing was a nightmare.. Flows and sludge characteristics could fluctuate a lot, and rapidly. The process ended up being rather attention intensive, regardless of all the automation. (Retired operator, City of Hayward, Calif.)..

      It’s a mixing valve
      Kind of like a check valve, but the intended purpose is to add a bunch of shear right at the point of polymer injection.

    We use a centrifuge at my plant. Its interesting to see a different method. We get roughly 20% but there's a huge upfront and energy cost.

      I'm just curious to know what is the gallons of polymer per hour are added to the sludge feed rate in gallons per minute. Ours is about 4.5 gallons of polymer per hour for 150 gallons of sludge per minute.

    Iv been thrown in the deep end and left to operate a centrifuge with only a days training... desperate to learn as much as I can about this so I don’t mess up!! Need the cake to be coming out dry so I can load more in the wagons.

    I accidentally spilled a large dose of swimming pool flocullant on a well. I pump all the water out. The well had only 1000 liters and I spilled a liter of a swimming pool flocullant ,aluminium hydrochloride. It as been 4 month now. The well is on mud. Can I use the water? Is it still dangerous? What happened to the flocks? Are they still toxic? Did they dissolve with time? Thanks.

      Great question, this is actually blended primary and secondary waste sludge.

      Reda thanks for watching and for the question. I wish it was an easy thing to answer...the answer is it depends.
      Processes like the one in the video are primarily thickening and use lower amounts (1-5 lbs per ton of material being thickened)
      Dewatering of digested sludges require much more (10-60 pounds per ton maybe more)

      This specific Polymer is a Solenis product. As I stated in the video there are an infinite number of combinations and prices for polymers. So what we use and pay can be completely different than everyone else.
      If your interested further I’d suggest finding your local SNF and Solenis rep if you’re in the States. If not brands and corporations names will be different.

    Why overdosing floculant leaves water murky?

      The polymer emulsions leaves the water murky when there is excess polymer in the solution. For most of these polymer products, a 5% polymer in water solution will be a white/cream color and very thick. The clearer the water, the closer you are to the correct level
