    I think some of you guys below misunderstood how simple this was.. In the end, Your sign is your soul and identity so always read the weekly for your sun and notice big trends for the week based on everything aspecting your Sun in the Risings position so your Sun will work as your first house. The actual chart with the rising is used as well but thats the more individualized. Be sure to also check the strength of your moon and what time you were born, day or night and that can also cause a 3rd chart of where the Moon emulates as the 1st house for the horoscope reading. Simply put, always check your Sun, Moon and Rising based charts for every week, because of aspects and placements can dictate whats being affected most due to the strongest core planet of the 3. Hope this helps clear the Mud in the water. Great Content as always thank you Amanda and Chris!

    Sun sign astrology makes much more sense since I heard Christopher explain it. I still think that solar houses are dodgy. Why not just write the horoscope from the information about ruling planet aspects, and the sky from the point of view of the sun sign? The reading would be more reliable in almost every case.

    I'm a shy, insecure Leo with the sun at the end of my fourth house. I have Taurus rising and I was born at night. My full Leo doesn't come out unless I'm in my comfort zone; or, if I'm backed into a corner and I really need to defend myself. People always told me that Leos aren't shy. They're confident. I've met both kinds of Leo. I crave attention and I'm all heart. I'm all Leo on the inside. People who meet me see the Taurus and they don't recognize me when my Leo comes out. They think I've somehow deceived them. I identify a lot with Taurus. I am absolutely both signs. I identified more with my Sag moon when I was younger; but, not so much anymore. Astrology is complex; and, it is confusing; but, nevertheless, it is very accurate. I agree. Sun sign astrology is the gateway drug to learning the rest; but, there is so much more!!!

      @@dorisinhulsen9510 By art form I mean chart interpretation and prediction. One masters the rules and techniques but then there's this other creative element that comes into play based on the person doing the interpreting and predicting. And as for the Church - it depends on what religion you're talking about. The Catholic Church, for instance, was the major employer of astrologers in the medieval period. They needed Astrologers to calculate Easter every year because Easter is a "moveable" feast. Plus many of our most important astrological texts were housed in Catholic libraries during this same period. It's not something the Catholic Church likes to talk about, but they're the reason we have astrology books today.

I knew the Catholic Church did some of these things. But really they told me they where evil also and just think they where going to heaven. So sure you can see why my mind is kind of messed up. And just to fully be the "Saturnian partypooper" here: if astrologers are going to embrace "popular, generic astrology" and carry it forward into the future (which is absolutely fine if that is what everybody wants), then they should at least address findings such as "the Barnum effect" or "Forer effect", and explain why they DON'T invalidate (their application of) astrology. @@christopherrenstrom7466 one thing you mentioned may be in my chart. The ascendant may be overpowering the chart. I have Asc at 25 Virgo, but also Pluto 1 Virgo, Mercury 7 Virgo, and Ceres 6 Virgo in 12th house. I have that opposite sign-house thing where all my planets are in the house opposite their home sign. In Leo which is my 11th house, there is Sun 15, Uranus 12, Pallas 13, Juno 27. I have never been seen or acknowledged much. I work better by myself because distractions totally mess me up. I have had some successes but they are short lived.

      @@harrymyhero Fascinating! It sounds like the Ascendant may feel more comfortable for you. Virgo doesn't like to call attention to itself and is committed to work and service. Usually I've seen Leo in the 11th as wanting to be seen and recognized. Usually it's a Saturn/Sun conjunction that cramps the style of a Sun placement like this, so the Uranus conjunction is REALLY intriguing. Perhaps you feel more comfortable being recognized as part of a group or larger cause? I've seen Sun/Uranus conjunctions struggle with what I call a selfishness problem i.e. the belief that calling attention to oneself is selfish and grandstanding whereas working for the betterment of a group or cause is much more noble and heroic. Just some ideas.

    To be very honest.... I think (for me) that the generic horoscopes are part of the reason why I never took astrology seriously. And my Sun sign and rising sign are the same, so I often even "get lucky" when I read them. When I discovered the Depth and the various particularities in my chart, thát's when it really became fascinating for me. Seriously, you wouldn't believe the relief I felt when I first heard that I am NOT "just a Capricorn". :-) It's actually not a surprise to hear that these generic horoscopes only began in 1931, because they seem to be part of the general movement towards the idea of "everyone being equal". If a birth chart really is a unique 'blueprint' of your individual identity, then maybe astrology shouldn't be degraded to a "generic practice". But that's just what comes up for me right now, no offense to anyone who does see value in it.
    I recently had a discussion with one of my "rational friends" about astrology, and he tried to do a nasty trick on me. He said "no no, I am open to astrology, I have looked into it quite a bit myself. In fact, can I try and give you a short description of your personality based on your birth date?" I was enthused and said "sure, go ahead". A few minutes later, he sent me half a page filled with a generic personality description, as in: "You aspire to achieve your full potential, but often feel insecure. You enjoy being liked and admired by others, but often criticize yourself blablabla...". He said: "so on a scale from 0 to 5, how "accurate" would you say it is?". That's when I realized he was tricking me. I said "Pfff, it applies to me yes, but I don't see how this is all derived from my birth date? That's not what I see in my birth chart per se". Then he admitted he got the "generic text" from an experiment (called the "Forer"-effect), that shows that apparently people score on average 4.2 on this scale. These types of "experiments" are used to disprove the validity of astrology, so these are questions that should be addressed, no?!

    • @arcadianwings2662
      @arcadianwings2662 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or maybe there CAN be a place for generic solar horoscopes, but then keep it limited to aspects made to the Sun and planets transiting the sign, and don't go talking about the "houses", if you know that these are derived from the Ascendant. Or describe "the astrology for the Collective", which is also a possibility. But I have difficulties with so many people seeing it as "a game", and then being surprised why nobody believes in astrology.
      You see, I'm not an astrologer myself, I'm just really enjoying the exploration of it. Yet, some people have asked me to read their chart, "just for fun", you know? And I have always been very straight about it: I need to see their exact time of birth on paper, before I even put my time in it. I even assist them in the procedure of getting their birth certificate (which everyone can do for free in my country). But when they're not even sufficiently interested to make the effort of figuring out their birth time, I already feel like I need to "prove" something, I need to bridge far more space than I can, you know? So I only do it when I get all of the data I need. Because it's a small effort on their part. And because if I'm gonna do astrology, I only want to do it as a testimony of how REAL it actually is....(oh, and I made one exception for a girl who was adopted and didn't even know her time of birth or the city, just 'India' and the date, so I'm not a tyrant or anything. :p But then I do honestly emphasize that I can only access a very limited amount of information).

    Thus presentation (at least the first five minutes) only relates to modern (20th century astrology). It has no bearing on Hellenistic, which is organized around the ascendant. So a very incomplete story, which is weird for someone who is introduced as a historian. I stopped listening after five minutes because there was nothing in the introductory presentation that attempted to frame the larger story within a historical context that goes back 2000 years. It’s possible he gets to there later in the discussion, but to start answering the question by saying unequivocally ‘start with the sun’ must be qualified. It is only true for certain systems.

      @@christopherrenstrom7466 It would have been nice to state that clearly at the outset. This channel is most frequented by beginners. So to unequivocally state that the answer to the title question is to use a less than 100 year old popular trope, profoundly undersells astrology as a deeply consistent, ancient and effective science of patterns. The concept of ‘houses from the sun’ is fascinating and effective. But without context or explanation, you basically didn’t answer the question posed at the outset of the video.
