    The Kami + Faerie + Cauldron combo works a little better the other way around- exile Faerie to give Kami two counters and ability to untap itself. Let’s you get around the stun counters.

    The bit about Throne of Eldraine and monocolor deck did bring to mind how much people seem to underestimate how strong monocolored and colorless commander decks are; not having to juggle multiple colors allows some truly ridiculous cards to be played that wouldn't work as well, or outright wouldn't work, in multicolor decks. Including especially lots of mana doublers.

    Dreadknight cant be cast from the grave unless it dies. Nearly half if not more than half of removal is exile based at this point. Likewise, if you mill or discard underdog you can still get value. Thats not the case with dreadknight. The lack of haste also means it cant pressure planeswalkers and control like underdog can, further hampering it. I think its likely to see very little play because really underdog does almost everything better.

    thats not how stun counters work. it removes one at your untap phase when it would untap normally. so it makes it much better as it can just sit on the field and become a midgame threat with no mana needed to be spent

    @FirstnameLastname-ju7em ปีที่แล้ว

    37:51 didn't we get a 3 plus 2 phyrexian red Act of Treason in New Phyrexia? Granted threatens aren't playable in modern anyways, but colorless does have a threaten option in older 60 card formats

  • @jnorthey9
    @jnorthey9 ปีที่แล้ว

    22:31 this card if played on turn one would lose counters on each untap phase as well, so you could have it ready to attack on turn 3 if you wanted to pay that four extra mana (2 on turn two and then 2 on turn three), as well as you can do it at instant speed, so for the turn two you can wait with two mana up then use it on the faerie.
    Later in the game it just gets vigilance if you need blockers in a pinch while still being able to hit them for 3 flying every turn with ward 2. Card seems pretty good overall. Or even again holding up the mana after it has no stun counters on it on turn three and then you can decide if you need a blocker or if you're going to cast something else at instant speed on their turn you make the opponent have to think a lot more around a lot more decisions.

    Mono B Fairies has been a pretty powerful and popular deck in Pauper. I wonde if Spell Stutter will show up in that deck when it has access to stuff like Counter Spell. I think there are some UB versions of the deck which I would think would have more cause to use Spell Stutter. But a very intersting card in addition to all the Fairies from this set.

  • @pablodiaz2278
    @pablodiaz2278 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sentinel of Lost Lore modes are also pseudo recursion. Instead of thinking of adventures already played, I think of exiling willingly the cards from graveyard. You use both ways the adventure card, it dies and you exile it then cast the sentinel which lets you recover the exiled card and exile future recursions.
    By the way Elusive Otter feels like a great upgrade to Venerated Rotpriest deck. It is a 1mv creature which can be a team targeting spell to proc the Rotpriest in buckets. It's also simic which mpair it well not only with the creature, but also with Ivy and the blue march

    Sleep cursed is obviously too slow to be in a Delver style tempo deck, but it might be good enough in a control deck as a modest finisher that they can just sorta sneak onto the board in between more important control spells for just 1 mana. Sweepers are of course the problem with that, it'd need to be all counters and targetted removal.

    After seeing the "Take it back" half of Spellscorn Coven makes me think about brewing a lucky clover adventure deck in pioneer. With the clover youd be able to cast the instant side targeting itself and using the copy to bounce opponents spell's essentially giving you a 3 mana unsubstantiate with free buyback. Not sure if its strong enough but i love adventures anyway!

    • @the_r4ts
      @the_r4ts ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't target a spell that's not already on the stack. You choose targets before the spell goes on the stack, meaning you can't have either Take It Back target itself. The copy can target the original, but that will resolve before the original bounces your opponent's spell :(

    With Sentinel of Lost Lore, you can also return a card that's been exiled by something other than the Adventure mechanic itself to your hand (or return something to the bottom of your opponent's library, for all intents and purposes). If, say, you had *two* Sentinels, you could exile your graveyard with the first one's ETB effect, then return a card that has an Adventure from exile to your hand (given that there was one in your graveyard to begin with). It doesn't *have* to be two copies of this card, but that's just one use that doesn't name any other cards. It technically also works with Cemetery Prowler, if you exiled a card (with an Adventure) from your graveyard-just note that it *will* decrease the discount provided by the Prowler.

    Food Fight does sound meme-tastic, but honestly I think it looks really legit. The main issue may be the enhanced number of playable enchantment removal that typically comes with an enchantment heavy set. The deck seems like a great excuse to break out my favorite Standard legal dragon - Atsushi the Blazing Sky. When a copy of him dies and you can generate 3, 6, or even 9 or god forbid 12 damage, it won't take long to close out a game. I think Food Fight can find a deck that doesn't need to include any bad cards to make it good. Between treasures and powerstones there are tons of options. We might even get to dust off those Karn Living Legacy cards we have laying around, but probably not.

    Sleep-Cursed Faerie's stun counters doesn't need to be removed after removing the 1st one to untap it. As long as you don't tap it for attacking or for paying for convoke, it will remain untapped on the following turn.😂 I feel that it is a very good deterrent for early aggro, and a very frustrating thing to leave on the battlefield for your opponents since it has ward 2. You can just pay the untap later when you are clearly able to.

    • @SabeJones
      @SabeJones ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not how stun counters work. It's a replacement effect: if the creature would untap, and it has a stun counter on it, you remove one counter instead of untapping the creature. That happens regardless of how the creature's getting untapped, whether it's at the untap step, a Twiddle, or an activation of "1U: Untap this creature."

The relatively bad equipment side is really not a huge sell outside of equipment themed decks(though in those it will be an auto include). Seth, I love your content, and I do agree with you; but "when Sheoldred rotates" is not worth saying yet. Sheoldred wouldn't have even rotated on the old cycle yet. So she isn't even going away in the next rotation which is still quite a bit off. Tack on a whole year after that.
    Sheoldred is just too strong. 4/4 would have still been strong. 4/5 without deathtouch maybe, but the combination of 4 mana, 4/5, deathtouch, and abilities? Nothing lines up with that. And the thought of sacrificing tenacious under d to have 8 Sheoldred in your deck is ridiculous.

    Sadly i think throne of eldraine is overcosted.
    How often do you need 9 mana for anything? Also ramping on turn 5 is not great to put it mildly.
    That said i do understand its potential but i belive if it was 4 mana tap for 3 aka thran dynamo it would have been much better.

    About the prowess creature (because I've been trying to make prowess work for a while)
    We *still* have severe land issues when it comes to multi-colour aggro decks that will hold back any khans clan from ever being competitive. Specifically, the issue is that, in a 3-colour aggro deck, you only have pain lands plus 4 fast lands to make your deck work, and the fast lands tend to be in the wrong colours for what you really need (Temur prowess would prefer an Izzet fast land over a Gruul one).
    We also don't have triomes in standard for those colour combinations. 4 and 5 colour piles can still work because of the triomes we still have, but even a 2 colour aggro deck in the wrong colours (boros or izzet, for example) has severe colour issues, and 3 colour won't be better. I've often had to mulligan what would otherwise be good hands in prowess or heroic-based aggro decks because I've had threats and spells, but not lands of the right colour(s).
    WOTC really needs to print the other half of the fast land cycle or some other sort of untapped dual lands to make multi-coloured aggro viable in standard, because a lot of the combinations you'd want to use are shut out by land problems.

    I genuinely don't get the hype for Mosswood Dreadknight. It seems like everyone's thinking this card will be broken, but I just don't see it. It's a 2 mana 3/2 trample green creature, which I think is great stats, but the recursion just isn't happening. You'd be essentially giving the opponent a free time walk by playing a 2 mana sorcery-speed cantrip when there are so much better things you can be doing for 2 mana in standard, and that's also ignoring the fact that basically every deck that runs removal can either exile this from the board (white/red) or from the graveyard (black). This might be okay in a green-based aggro deck, but the recursion is just not that impactful.

    • @Amphidsf
      @Amphidsf ปีที่แล้ว

      That's where I came down on it as well. Sure it puts you in value city at +2 every time it dies. The flip side is it taxes your mana heavily to go to value town and if you don't pay the cost you end up with... a slightly above the curve creature. Infinite card advantage doesn't mean much when the cards you are drawing are all just fair. Maybe I'm missing something, I'm prepared to eat my words, I think it will see near zero play.

    • @TehPerz
      @TehPerz ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Amphidsf I can see it seeing play since the body is pretty aggressive, but considering where green is in current standard, it's going to need a lot of support before I feel like this is any better than Tenacious Underdog. At least you can blitz underdog whenever you want instead of letting the opponent dictate which turn you're skipping to get your value.

    I've been mulling over Dreadknight since it was leaked and I feel in most cases it just feels better than underdog. The three advantages underdog has are being mono black, being able to be hasty and being able to be played from the graveyard even if it went without dying. On the otherhand I find dreadknight to bhe more versatile, giving the option of card draw or a 3/2 on turn 2 or after it dies having the ability to cast the adventure for 2 from the graveyard and using your mana for other things since you dont have to cast it from the adventure immediately. I think only costing 1 life instead of 2 will come up more often than you think, also being able to have the card draw not on your endstep gives more options and as you said being able to play defense and block is great and not having haste is really made up for by not being able to be chump blocked because of the trample. I have found myself on more than one occasion just stuck blitzing underdogs that get chumped just for the card draw so having a creature that i can do the same thing that underdog can that not only doesnt get chumped but can also block is just great.

    Is Sentinel also able to bring back adventure cards that were exiled from the grave or the field with something like farewell? Or am I missing some ruling that doesn't allow that? If that's the case, are there any other cards that allow you to interact with your own cards that opponents have exiled?

    • @eatachodeutube

      Yes (I believe), and Karn, the Great Creator is another example of this. For adventures specifically, I'm not sure if there are other cards that interact specifically with adventures in exile. Also, if you go back to the old eldrazi sets, eldrazi processors would put cards the opponent owned from exile into their graveyard, for what it's worth, and Oblivion Sower would put their exiled lands onto the battlefield under your control.

    I think you are right the Irencrag is actually a huge deal because it dodges the common problem with green mana dorks which is the bolts and dying. Oh, also it's not green lol. I don't see anything yet really for green to stand on its own yet in standard, but some of the cards are making it seem like green might exist as golgari or other color pairs. Standard just has so much efficient removal its kind of crazy and then green creatures are really not that good so there has been hardly a reason to play green. Still hoping for more for team green lol

    • @eatachodeutube
      @eatachodeutube ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Green has good cards but they don’t generally work together that well. Since green has gotten very specific themes in each set that are too narrow and they lack a lot of synergy in just a generic good pile like mono black and mono white.
      Also yeah the removal is just too good with an embarrassment of riches.

    I still think the fairy with the stun counters is good in standard without infinite combos..... I think the delver comparison is on the nose in that it is a very cheap threat that requires a specific deck ... It just wants a different deck...... Rather than a high risk aggro card it is a slow control/tempo card. Ward 2 almost guarantees it will live till that turn 3 or 4 (sheoldred edict being the standout counter) and then going into it being online that ward 2 will continue to make it hard to target well into the late game when supported by tax style cheap counterspells. Plus as just a faeries deck card.... There is the looter faerie that can turn into any card in your gy..... 1 mana turn into this while never getting the stun counters and it can even pitch it into the gy to do it for you. Even your comparison of the cauldron combo with the looter faerie can let you turn any creature (maybe an incidental token) into the looter...... To turn it into the ward faerie. I think we are gong to see some kind of faerie tempo deck with a very low cmc that will use both the 1 cmc enchantment and the "faerie thoughtseize " to strip am your early game plays while the ward faerie comes online and you will probably resolve about as many cards against it as you would mono blue.... Except it has black and can remove things that hit the board too.
