Amazing how they had spectacular buildings built within a year of being founded. And so many! We can't even build those types of structures today. Just Amazing how the technology and speed of building was back then. I believe there were even trolleys already? Electricity already there? Wonder what civilization they took over? Tartarian's maybe? Sure looks like it to me!
Those jobs have about shutdown. Copper tire has been sold. Majority of income is minimum wage, welfare and social security. Section 8 homes is everywhere but mostly in Arkansas side. Nearly every neighborhood are now slums. Downtown literally had an abandoned store crumble and fall out into Main Street. Luckily no one injured. Of course except for cops and those heading to court to face the judge there’s not many people downtown.
Was totally thinking the same thing... lmao. Tour Guide- "Yep, 1945 was a good year for Texarkana, the war had ended and business was booming!! Then in 1947..." Tourist- " Excuse me Sir, I think you forgot to mention 1946..." Tour Guide- " Well let's all just move along now, nothing to see here. Like I was saying, in 1947......." 🤔😒
I was unfortunate to have been born here in 1980. Maybe it was a good place to be from in the old days but not now. High crime rate. Alot of low paying jobs and not much opportunity. Life is a struggle here. Very high divorce rate. Most men here are all paying child support. If you don't have a reason to stay here then get out ASAP.
Your employment and population numbers really need updating, maybe 100K residents combined and about zero real fucking jobs, the place is kept going by the fact it's falling apart and everyone capitalizing on that by taking the crumbling shit hole to the f'n scrapyard to feed their drug addiction. Oh and I was so happy to see Harte Hanks lose their fedex contract for their policies were literally to lie to their customers.
I agree! Other than the railroad, Cooper Tire, Red River Army Depot, and some of the paper mills, there aren't a lot of good-paying jobs to raise a family on. The rent-to-income ratio alone is so off in this area. This area desperately needs more industry.
This video is mostly lies. For the truth look for the song called "Beverly houses" it's here on TH-cam and will show you the real picture of what Texarkana really is.
I have several old photos of Texarkana Texas in the early 1900s and I even have a photo of the mob bosses at the grim hotel.1920.

All of these years I thought it was Texas Arkansas and Louisiana. I did not know Louisiana was not part of Texarkana.

So what is (was) the vision for the future? "Serves as a hub for entertainment, healthcare and employment" - are there any cities that doesn't?
Weapons manufacturing is a key US export. Thank you!

Totally understand your feelings. Maybe it is time we took it back from the evil ones ruling this town? Now is the time!
