      2006-2009, I was at a couple of local drag races for fun, with the Corrado. There was a club named "Austrian MOPAR" present with real badass cars.. Big Block Superbee etc. They were pretty loud and pretty fast. So what I want to say, maybe these guys are still around, or other similar clubs, that could pay you a visit.

      When I was a kid, my father always had Cadillac Sedan DeVilles - not this old, they were the late 80s to 90s models. And while they weren't particularly sporty, being big luxury boats with 3-across bench seating front and rear, they had decent power and were VERY smooth. I'd imagine that with a steady enough hand and good knowledge of braking points they could actually be quite quick around a track, relative to other big, heavy American luxury cars of the era.

      They really were well designed cars, engineered primarily to haul passengers on America's vast Interstate highway system for hours (or days) at a time, in utmost comfort and quiet. The high-torque big block V8s were chosen purposely for smooth, effortless, low RPM cruising at 70 MPH all day. I miss that era.

      But then a copper gets behind you.
      Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. Your normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side when he sees the big red light behind him ... and then he will start apologizing, begging for mercy.
      This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop-heart. The thing to do - when you're running along about 100 or so and you suddenly find a red-flashing CHP-tracker on your tail - what you want to do then is accelerate. Never pull over with the first siren-howl. Mash it down and make the bastard chase you at speeds up to 120 all the way to the next exit. He will follow. But he won't know what to make of your blinker-signal that says you're about to turn right.
      This is to let him know you're looking for a proper place to pull off and talk ... keep signaling and hope for an off-ramp, one of those uphill side-loops with a sign saying "Max Speed 25" ... and the trick, at this point, is to suddenly leave the freeway and take him into the chute at no less than 100 miles an hour.
      He will lock his brakes about the same time you lock yours, but it will take him a moment to realize that he's about to make a 180-degree turn at this speed ... but you will be ready for it, braced for the Gs and the fast heel-toe work, and with any luck at all you will have come to a complete stop off the road at the top of the turn and be standing beside your automobile by the time he catches up.
      He will not be reasonable at first ... but no matter. Let him calm down. He will want the first word. Let him have it. His brain will be in a turmoil: he may begin jabbering, or even pull his gun. Let him unwind; keep smiling. The idea is to show him that you were always in total control of yourself and your vehicle - while he lost control of everything.

    A boat like this hitting 110MPH on the Nurburgring is absolutely insane. Even with it's big engine it is no where near efficient any modern car but still getting that thing up to speed on a racetrack is something nobody thought of doing. I think Misha can tick few boxes off driving this and Ranchero on track and probably the only one in the world taking these 2 cars on the Ring.

    • @theeoddments960
      @theeoddments960 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      The engine itself isn’t all that inefficient, it’s just focused to make power at low rpm cruising speeds for passing power. All the old luxury v8s were like that. While it may only be making 300whp it’s still making 400+ foot pounds to the wheels with a 10:1 compression pre smog engine that wasn’t made for power but to last forever. The pre smog era American cars weren’t bad at all. My 66 Electra stock still runs a 7 second 0-60 time, pretty good for 4400 pounds of lead sled

    • @royliber3824
      @royliber3824 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@theeoddments960 Again, 0-60 in for modern European standards is very fast. I get it that even a full-sized pickup in the US can do around the same but you guys need to realize that modern European cars with small turbo engines still don't accelerate as fast as these things. Mostly to make them fuel efficient but again, it's not something that simply happens with modern European cars. With older European cars there were some cars that accelerated fast but not a huge number of cars.
      Also hitting 110MPH at parts in the ring in any car is an achievement but with this thing? It's gotta be unheard of.

Older cars like a 60s Chrysler 300 letter series car would be very slow around the track due to the all drum brake configuration - but they were quick for their time. We blew off a 75 camaro with a 72 sedan DeVille on a twisty road. Guy was so pissed came after us on the highway and we left him in the dust. The caddy accelerated S600-ish with its massive v8. (and 6 mpg observed fuel economy while we had it). I had a 64 super wildcat rivera with dual 4 bbls carbs on a 425 which would have been slow on the ring too - until the cars got disk brakes they would have been horrid on the track. This was fun. Brought back some memories for me. In 1980 I was driving a rental car in upstate New York. It was a late 70’s Ford Pinto. As I am driving I see a sign for Watkins Glen. So of course I got off the highway to check it out. It was a Saturday and the Watkins Glen track was closed (closed under construction). There was some big race coming up in the next week. In any case I noticed a gate was open and I went through it. All of a sudden I realized I was on the actual race track. No body was there and I did several laps in the Ford Pinto …… which handled like a pig. Watching Misha reminded me of the squealing tires on that poor Pinto 😂
    Four years later in 1984 I moved to the US. My first car which I got for free was a 1968 Pontiac Bonneville. It had a 6.6L engine and like this Cadillac it also handled like the Titanic. So many times when I was ripping down the highway and would encounter a curve and one of the hubcaps would come flying off …. Sometimes I could see the hubcap rolling along beside my car. Then the hubcap would go off into the grass on the side and I would pull over and retrieve it.

    Very quiet exhaust and cabin. Sounds great from what you can hear of the v8 when revved out. Beautiful car. Less body roll than expected and surprising speed-must be all that mid range torque. Not many cars of that age could finish a lap without mechanical failure either. Looks like a fun drive!!

    As a Cadillac fan (currently own an 89 Sedan DeVille), the 70 Coupe DeVille is one of my top 3 favorite Cadillacs for straight style... probably my top pick for what I'd want as a daily with some mods. Then the 56 Eldorado Seville, then the 58 Coupe DeVille... those are my top 3 IMO 👌🏻

      What are your thoughts on the 93-95 Fleetwood? It is a favorite in the lowrider community and I think it’s one of the most gorgeous cars Cadillac has ever made.

    • @johnnygeorgopoulos4072
      @johnnygeorgopoulos4072 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Sixfigas *93-96....but yes, find yourself a late model 94-96 with the Chevy LT1 Fleetwood Brougham, not just the "base" Fleetwood, but the Fleetwood Brougham, in a slick top (the Brougham option _added_ a vinyl roof amongst other luxury tidbits, but you could option it back off), and find one IMO, with the cloth/velour interior on top of all that, and you've got yourself a bad ass Caddy.... there's only one thing that makes those cooler, and that's the HD tow package that was available...adds an electric fan to the primary upgraded mechanical fan, bigger radiator, high amp alternator, both a trans and engine oil cooler, the HD version of the 4L60(don't understand that one when the 4L80 was available, so maybe it's different internals and torque converter or something), as well as a higher final drive (3.73 for the early SBC cars, 3.42 for the higher HP and TQ LT1 cars), and lastly, the FE2 suspension system...all of that with the HD Tow package... that would be the perfect example...then pull the gen 2 LT1 and swap in a 3/5 (they skipped calling it 3 or 4, it's actually called 5) LT1, or LT2, or L8T, or L8P (last 2 are iron block LT GenV motors based on the LT1, but 6.6L/403ci instead of the GenV LT1/2 6.2L/376ci aluminum block)...then you can have a big jump in power and torque, the fun factor of saying "eh, it's just powered by the regular _old_ LT1 😉" , and you can throw a Whipple or Magnuson screwcharger on top and make an easy 700hp/700tq without doing anything else but the blower which will be dead quiet until you step on it 😅
      Dare I say, potentially the perfect true Cadillac.... just make sure you also get rid of that peasly 4L60 for _at least_ a built 4L80E or better yet, an 8L or 10L90E....more gears, more better... especially when they're rapidly shifting instead of slush boxes like the 4L60 😅

    Thoughts from this American born in 1970:
    - Never before have fellows traveled the 'Ring in such comfort and luxury.
    - That was easily 10 gallons of fuel spent, without a doubt.
    - Love to hear the secondary barrels open up. Such wonderful music to the ears.
    - Finally, extra points for anyone that knows what those two vertical lines in the middle of the screen are.

    I took my original driver's test in 1976 in a car only slightly smaller than this - a 1971 Pontiac Bonneville, with the 455 cid/ 7.5 liter engine.
    The body lean, the squealing tires gave me flashbacks. but that soft ride was sure comfortable on a long trip.
