This was filmed in Eden Prairie Minnesota. The ice castle changes locations every year around Minnesota Adam Rupp (Beatboxer ) this was his incredible arrangement.
Yes it is recorded in the studio first or they would be all miked up. They actually do sing along with the sound track as they record or you would not see their breath as they are recording
We all have our favorite songs, done by our favorite artists and it's hard to compete with those memories of greatness. I too grew up with the Bing Crosby version as well as all the other performers who did lovely versions of this classic. However-- as usual-- Home Free took a great old favorite and made it something wonderfully new and spectacular. The dramatic setting was great, but the dramatic arrangement done in such beautiful harmonies and solo voices makes this my all-time favorite from now on.
Absolutely my favorite Home Free performance. Adam Rupp's arrangement is the best arrangement of any Christmas song, ever, for me. Yes, you are hearing the studio recording. But they do sing with the recording while they are filming the video. Chris Rupp has a "behind the scenes" for this on his channel. He says that the owners/manager of the site allowed them to come and record the video after hours, but the music at the site was still playing, so they were trying to sing this while something else was playing the loudspeakers.
If you just do a TH-cam search for Home Free Christmas songs you'll have a lot of amazing music to choose from. My favorite when I want a laugh is "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer"..
Ah, an excellent Home Free holiday pick! I believe this was filmed in Minnesota, but this was several years ago. Have you had the chance to check out their new release of Santa Claus is Coming to Town? Absolutely hilarious! And please listen to their ending message. It's worth a few seconds of a listen (lol). Hope you are well and thanks for the reaction. Peace from Kentucky!
I am from Louisiana but now live in Australia. Summer time here but it's only 63f right now. This is my favourite Home Free sing. They are great. Happy Holiday to all of you.
This is definitely one of my favorite arrangements of their songs. Adam Rupp, the beatboxer, did the arrangement. So unique. Thanks for the Home Free reactions
Just a suggestion but Home Free will almost always have an more info after the video is over. Here they explain about the ice castle being in Eden Prairie MN and that it moves around every year. This is my favorite version of this song and I listen to it year round. Thanks for the reaction.
As a further suggestion, in case it's just a standard "come check us out on tour" bit, you can always pause, say something like, "That looks like the end of the music, but there's more video. I'll watch it and include it if it's interesting, but otherwise, thanks for watching, etc. etc."
Two of my favorite Home Free Christmas songs are I’ll Be Home For Christmas which has a beautiful Rob lead, some of their best harmonies and the video itself is great as well. The other one is Joy To The World from 2013 which has a jazzy feel and “gospel Rob’s” vocals are amazing! Thank you for your Home Free reactions!
Such an exceptional arrangement by Home Free's own wizard and incomparable vocal percussionist, Adam Rupp ⛄🪄🎄 And such a nice treat to hear Chris Rupp's smooth baritone getting some focus❣️🎼🥰🎶♥️ #HomeFree #WorldsBestBeatboxer #HomeFreeDoesChristmasBest
In the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, they have a winter festival and each year, a different location is chosen for the ice castle to be built. Each year the lights and theme are different. It is usually built on a lake if possible, as there are many lakes in the area. The festival is a very old tradition. I have this on the top of my Christmas Playlist.
Just because the song is ended doesn't mean the video is. They tell you where they are at the end of the video, just like many of their videos have a message you shovel hear.
As @TexasDonna-xu6fq pointed out, if you let their videos play out, they often have a short message at the end briefly talking about the making of the video or the origins of the song or whatever. For some reason, we Home Fries are always disappointed when the reactor doesn't let it play to the end lol. We're a demanding bunch... Love this performance and great reaction! Thanks for sharing!
Watch the outro they will tell you. 😊 Always watch the outro by Home Free. And in their TH-cam catalog they have videos from the vault which show behind the scenes of them making videos. You will see that while they are recording in studio they also sing on set not just lip sync 😊
Adam Rupp's original introduction to this song got thoughtlessly deleted to be replaced by the standard tour date boilerplate. I managed to recover the introduction, which I believe gives some great insight to his thoughts on making this arrangement: On the surface, this arrangement of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" sparks the imagination with different musical themes, and brings life to several different scenes or imagery about the birth of Christ. However, a deeper understanding of the song reveals a call for peace in a chaotic violent world under the simple truth preached by Christ: love. Originally written during the Cuban missile crisis, a parallel can be drawn to any time when the world needs a reminder to love not hate. The theme of competing voices is echoed in the execution of the 4 different vocal parts that come to clarity at the 4th verse and unify with the same message in 5 octaves: "Listen to what I say. Pray for peace, people everywhere." - Adam Rupp
In the past, IceCastles sets up in other states too. Like four or five locations in the colder parts of the contiguous US. Maybe I’ll get there this year.
Oh no! You stopped the video to soon!!! All your "stupid" questions would have been answered! BTW there are no stupid questions. Love your channel and reactions!
Adam Rupp (beatboxer) did the arrangement for this song. The best and most original arrangement I've heard. Another Christmas song with a unique arrangement is an older, live Home Free rendition in a video called "Joy to the World Hosannah". BTW, the live (fancam) of "My Church") is terrific: th-cam.com/video/SipyjRfyz_U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dQUWIbuOY3ZMCfwF
That is in Minnesota, my home State. Do not miss the snow and ice. This is an A-Capella group, no instruments, just their own voices. Thanks.

This is so very beautiful! Love your reaction!
Don't miss their epic collaboration with Kenny Rogers on Children, Go Where I Send Thee, a classic black gospel Christmas song.

Wishing everyone a season of grace and love.

This is one of my top five Home Free songs. They still perform this on the Christmas show every year. Great reaction.

After I cut it off I heard them say it. I've learned a lesson!
If you would listen to their commentary at the end of the video, they answered all the questions you asked.
