So good to see a mother daughter reaction channel. You girl's do a great job. You mom's an Angel, she's so truthful and I'm a senior who appreciates a woman like her and her reaction. Phil's Collins cand do it all. Write, Priduce, play Drums & Piano. He's a Pied Piper who I just don't know who doesn't have a song for them to appreciate by him. Phil came to everyone's attention as the drummer for the group Genesis. After the original lead singer left, he also became the lead singer for the band. He then had a great career as a solo artist. He does have a very powerful voice and was strong enough to sing while playing. Phil no longer performs on stage, mainly because of his health. He feels that he is no longer strong enough to sing and play the drums anymore. So instead of disappointing his fans, and wearing himself out on stage and giving his fans a subpar performance, he retired from performing. Great reaction to a fabulous song.

Partially correct. Due to nerve damage and back surgery he stopped playing the drums years ago (he no longer could hold the sticks). He just finished the last Genesis tour in 2022 singing from a chair. He hasn't retired but said that was the last Genesis tour.

He has had so many great hits such as "Another Day In Paradise", "I Don't Care Anymore", "Against All Odds", "One More Night", "Sussudio", "Take Me Home", "Two Hearts", "A Groovy Kind Of Love", "I Wish It Would Rain Down", "You Can't Hurry Love" etc.

I have idolized this man for years, and have tried for a long time to sing his songs right. Many people have praised me for my covers of his songs, but I know that I will NEVER be able to match him. Thanks for reacting to this song! You two need to react to 'Don't Lose My Number', 'Sussudio', 'Another Day in Paradise', 'Take Me home', 'One more night', and 'A Groovy Kind of Love' to get a feel for his music. While I've known for a long time what this song's about, I quite enjoy the fact that I still like to attach something far more sinister to it. For me, it's almost a mea culpa, an admission of having killed someone who's done him some serious wrong, and the lyrics are what Phil's saying to that person before he does the deed.

If there was ever a performance that can be called 'mesmerizing', this is it. Keep in mind that singing and playing the drums is extremely difficult, more than other instruments. The physical movement of drumming throws your voice off, and then you have 5 different rhythums you're keeping track of in your head (2 feet, two hands, and the melody)

    • @ohauss
      @ohauss ปีที่แล้ว +11

Singing and SITTING is already difficult, because you're constraining your lungs and your diaphragm, but then playing the drums on top needs a lot of energy as well, and hence, air, so makes it that much harder.

@@ohauss You would think it would be hard, but it's not really. I've been singing solos at my church for over twenty years and sometimes I play piano while I'm singing. Now, singing and playing drums at the same time is a different story. I guess that's why there's not many singers who also play drums and I have nothing but respect for anybody who can do it.

He really has no idea what this song is about. There have been many urban legends and rumors made up about the meaning. But, in his words he had just broke up with his wife. He was alone in his home feeling low, and it came to him. Needless to say, his ex - wife hates this song. LOL.
Collins has been plagued by a number of health issues over the last 10 years, beginning with an injured vertebrae in his upper neck in 2009. He sustained the injury while he was performing and it left him with crippling nerve damage in his hands.
He underwent surgery to repair the vertebrae, but he lost feeling in his fingers and could only grip drumsticks if they were taped to his hands. The injury soon left him unable to continue playing the drums that made him a star.

Great reaction to genius. Just as with Genesis (his 'other' band), things are so well done and thought out, very intentional. Phil Collins sure does know his stuff. Dramatic, intense, surprising shows he knows what he is doing. Well, after all he studied drama through 'high school' (or the English equivalent). His acting is quite good. Besides emoting emotion in his concerts, he can emote on screen. Check out his 'Phil the Shill' on Miami Vice (Season 2 Episode 12) and also 'Buster' (1988), a full length movie starring along with Dame Julie Walters. Such a confident talent!

Before being a singer, Phil Collins was a drummer with Genesis. And what a drummer he is! One of the best, if not the best, ever.

This is my second comment. There is a clip on TH-cam where Phil was in the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon 6 years ago. Jimmy asked him what inspired the song. Phil said the song was written partly out of anger from his divorce. He eluded to a sadness stage where he tried to reconcile, and then an anger stage. The song was first released in 1981. Then, later, he would meet Lily’s mom, and marry her. This live version came out in the 2000s. I think it was 2003. By the way, you paused it and talked about it in the perfect spot.

The audience anticipation is such an incredible part of the experience imo! They want to watch the drum part but they had NO IDEA how much fire he was gonna bring with it!
    The best live ever!!!

Great Reaction to a superb song, excellently performed and I saw Phil's first ever Top Billing performance with Genesis with 3,000 others in Croydon, South East London, in 1972 a mere 50 years ago, when the original Top Of The Bill: "Bell 'n Arc" disbanded the day b4 the gig. I did keep recommending this as one of 6 wonderful Live performances and I know you have covered Pink Floyd: Comfortably Numb-Live" so we still have:- GARY MOORE: "Parisienne Walkways @ Montreux) and GARY MOORE; " I've Still Got The Blues For You in Paris" ...Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven at Madison Square Garden" and The Eagles: " Hotel California - Capitol Centre-1977" ALL EPIC so ENJOY LADIES😀

2:30 that's Leland Sklar, one of the greatest bassists ever. He made over 2000 bass sessions, he also played with Toto and among others like James Taylor. He has a TH-cam channel too. By the way, another new subscriber here from Puerto Rico!

Phil Collins was a good Actor too. He starred in the film The Great Train Robbery which was about one of the biggest heists ever, in 1963.

I LOVE percussion and always loved Phil Collins…not many drummers become lead singers and his music was so cool for all the percussion. Even the Tarzan soundtrack was awesome because of his percussion skills.

I had really tears in my eyes. Because there were so many good music between the 1960s and the 1990s. And nowadays I am still waiting for those kinds of revolutionary changes that occured in the older days. It makes me sad that rock music in its complete spread has vanished today. There are only small singular events today.
