Honestly, this is probably the most modest and simple looking coronation ceremony I have ever seen.
Most are extravagant affairs with huge processions, gold carriages, glittering jewelry, and crowds of thousands.
The Japanese do it with reasonable elegance, but without much pomp and circumstance.
It’s even more surreal than the British coronation ceremony.

@@bugatti99vun An emperor and a king are two different things, an emperor is the sole leader of an empire. While a king is the ruler of an independent state.
The person being enthroned this year in the empire of Japan is Naruhito, he was taking over the role as Emperor from his father Emperor Akihito. Akihito was made Emperor of Japan in 1989, seeing an Emperor getting enthroned is a very rare occurrence as it only really happens when the current Emperor reaches a comfortable age to resign at or when he dies.

This is surreal seeing a true emperor in this day and age. Their dress and mannerisms is superior to a mere politician we are used to seeing. I am a reader of history and isnt this emperor descended from a line that spans back thousands of years? Amazing and respect

He is just a normal person who wears normal clothes most of the time. And you don't need to be born royal to be able to learn those mannerisms. The fact that he descends from such a long line of royals does not mean that he was born with any superior qualities.

Abe had great plans. He wanted to change the Japanese constitution, he wanted Japan to be a bigger military power and he wanted to recognise the emperor as official head of state. Unfortunately his illness and following resignation in 2020 ended those plans, and his murder in 2022 put a nail in the coffin.

The Emperor also performs a number of Shinto-based ceremonies every day for the happiness of the people, even those that are not disclosed to the media. This is the reason why the Japanese people have been loyal to the Emperor since ancient times.
