People need to know the truth. After the first day of heptathlon on Friday, Skujyte was the points leader but then of all the competing athletes, she was the only one selected for doping testing and was kept till late Friday night until 2AM, thus interrupting athletes routine and most importantly sleep, which is vital for recovery. On Saturday, she had to compete again in the morning and she was sleep deprived, stressed and exhausted. Skujyte already set a new world record for shot put and was the only athlete to high jump 1.91 meters on Friday. She was in her best form of her life. However, on Saturday, Austra could not deliver the same strong performance anymore. If she did, she could have secured second place or even won the gold. Because Olympics were held in London, and Jessica Ennis was the athlete from GB, someone got scared that Ennis might not win. It’s obvious that the selective doping testing was a sabotage against Skujyte. The Olympics, where unfairness happens. At least now Skujyte received her recognition. All in all, you have to be grateful for all the things in life.

Ennis received considerable pre-competition publicity in the UK. (I live there) I wondered at the time why she succeeded when the other UK athletes with similar build ups failed.
It is absurd she was kept up until 2 AM. The sampling process should have taken no more than 1/2 hour, if that. If there was a delay due to processing her coach should have been able to stand in for her.
Shortness of sleep is especially damaging to concentration and would affect skill and endurance events the most. The 2nd day would consist of long jump requiring millisecond timing to fit the board without a foul, javelin where the judgement of wind in the stadium is critical to maximise lift, and the 800 metres demands the ability to concentrate on accurate form when suffering from lactic acid.
It is amazing she didn't mention the sheer unfairness.

No Jess was the leader at the end of the first day and Austra was second.

God bless her. It is so hard not have enjoyed the moment at the podium not due to your perfomance but to someone else's cheating. And it goes beyond: when you are on the podium sponsors are likely to support you, a cash price could be there and more oportunities to compete abroad show up and these are things that can not be received years later. Ask Lidia Valentin who has been once on the podium but who has received two more medals retroactively. I am glad the Olympic committee is giving these athletes the recognition they deserve.

It reminds me Marion Jones received $ 700 000 in prize money. The only sanction the IAAF applied to her was she would have to return the money if she wished to compete.

They should test all athletes before and after a competition.

The Amazing thing about justice is that it never gets old. Gold Silver or Bronze does not matter because justice means more than the world to the victim.

So how many who eventually got their medals also doped but weren't caught? Just because you can't detect a drug doesn't mean the athlete hasn't taken something undetectable.

Isn't there a way to drug test literally before the competition starts?
