Zuma’s chess strategy explained…

  • The outcome of the historic 2024 elections has its roots in the rift between the camps of former President Jacob Zuma and current President Cyril Ramaphosa that formed after the NASCREC conference in 2017. In this interview with BizNews, macroeconomic and political analyst Phumlani M. Majozi, who is also the author of “Lessons from Past Heroes”, explains the strategy followed by Zuma, an avid chess player. He describes how Zuma came to view the Ramaphosa faction as a group of people who were after him and who mistreated him. “And up it went and went and went and went up until to a point where Zuma said, I guess as a chess player himself, he said, I'm going to strategise it. I need to hurt these people in the 2024 election. And that is what exactly happened. ” Majozi describes how Zuma used his huge support in KZN, a province that his very popularity won for the ANC, to fight back against the ANC. He shares his theories on Zuma’s end game and the benefits the former president likely wants from regaining “an influence in how things go in governance”. Majozi examines the factors that will determine the future of the ANC and Ramaphosa, and outlines the coalition formation needed to push the ANC into pro-market, pro-growth policies. He also examines the future of democracy in South Africa post May 29.

Do not kill the messenger; this guy is what he is, an analyst. Problem: Most of the people of SA did not think of the country and a sound future when they voted. They voted for a populist view, either Ramaphosa or Zuma, either capitalistic or tribalistic, either ideological or not and then you had the bunch who just staid away not voting at all. The end result, you population of SA did not use your minds and left the country in a state worse than what is was before. Stop throwing accusations around and start working towards a solution or otherwise the situation in SA will only deteriorate further.

The IEC map showed majorities by district, and the almost 15 per cent that voted MK corresponded pretty much perfectly to the Zulu speaking rural areas of the country (except in the many places where the IFP beat MK). That there was an ethnic aspect to this is obvious. It can't be pretended away. KZN, the Eastern parts of Mpumalanga, South of the Swazi majority districts, the Eastern parts of the Free State North of the Sotho majority districts, and East of a few Tswana majority districts were where the MK succeeded, when it did at all. (Gauteng isn't as easy to draw correspondences from, but rural Zulus quite obviously "voted Zulu", first and foremost.)
I suppose the comfort to draw from that is that this vote can't be taken as an endorsement of Zuma's corruption. It looks like the part of the electorate you can read off that map didn't take corruption into consideration. They voted for a Zulu. Not a good sign for the health of our democracy, or society, but it's pretty clear that that's what happened.

So it is more of ethnicity voting disregarding what the person you are voting for is capable or not capable of doing for you. That is sad.

@@franmdleleni6520 I suppose there is a very small silver lining. At very least the DA portion could not have come by entirely ethnic voting (too few of the other ethnicities to make that so), so hopefully although there's a long, long, lo-----ng road to travel, there's also a tiny bit of progress along the journey. Maybe it's just a matter of time? (It would be nice if we had time.)

@@sicko_the_ew let's hope for that silver lining to continue to be triumphant. What made me happy about this election was that, SAns were able to show these politicians that if they continue to ignore to serve the people, they will be shown the door. Let's now wait and see how things will unfold.

This man is speaking the truth. People don’t like it because the social stereotype says he shouldn’t be supporting what he is. But listen to what he says, he speaks facts. Well dressed, well presented, well spoken, educated gentleman. I swear after reading these comments that most of South Africans are just interested in tribalism. The government has done nothing good with the power they have. Why would we want to give them more power and control? They have proven they cannot manage that amount of responsibility, only the private market can.

Zuma instigates Zulu tribalism and abuse Zulu patriotism!
KZN will suffer because the Zulu people choose to follow a Zulu and not good policies of government.
Because of the Zulu ethnic obsession, the rest of SA started to isolate and reject them.
Zulus will be on their own soon because the rest of SA won't tolerate obsessed Zulus to drag the RSA down.
There are more important matters that voters must vote for, than the ethnicity of the leader.
    Long struggle ahead for RSA!

These politicians never cared to uplift their own. If they did, they wouldn't have downgraded education, closing teacher colleges, retrenching teachers. If you down grade education, you rob people of the chance to compete in the economy, holding their own.
Why are they, right now fighting to keep DA out of GNU or coalition? Because they know the DA will not allow them lining each others pockets at the expense of creating jobs and services for the people.

What our non-black or non-Zulu fellow South Africans should understand about Jacob Zuma is that he has the hearts of his followers because he's like Robin Hood, he's not viewed as a hero or icon for nothing. He genuinely cares for KZN people, but unfortunately he looks out for blacks only. But if you know what daily life is like in the townships and the rurals areas you'd understand why Zuma is revered so much. If black people are systematically shut out from the mainstream economy, we'll get more crime, tribalism, uprisings and more political Robin Hoods like Zuma.

Great conversation, sad that 10% of our GDP is being lost to criminality. Where did he get this stat by the way? The optimism is commendable but as far as peace goes (With Zuma's situation) he's too hopeful! Riots happened fueled by many motives but it's not like the whole country was on the same page about Zuma needing to serve his time! Even Malema said "he's too old to go to jail" - whatever that means.

Essentially the ANC-DA coalition is/was Cyril's only means of retaining power, and thus inevitable given his personal circumstances. I'm sure Mashatile has been in touch with MK exploring a possible internal purge/coup against the Ramaphosa faction. At least we now know who the 14%are and their strength, although i'm sure Zuma has left a few sleeper agents in place in the ANC NEC

It seems this guy seeing that he's a Zulu and im a Coloured Male from PAARL, he is easily an IFP Symphatiser. The was the one and is the one politician who brought peace over the whole of KZN between two war-ring factions like IFP AND ANC. Also how can he talked so disparagingly about an ex-President JACOB MSHOLOZI ZUMA of the country as if ZUMA and his MK PARTY is Stupids I'm supporting the MK PARTY and I'm not Illiterate as many on these platforms also. But it seems that anything which are been associated with ZUMA is evils to them as he is playing for the gallery. He's Analysis are pedantic as one would expect from maybe a silent INKHATA person, because they wanted ti give us the idea with the MAINSTREAM-MEDIA that its only a ZUMA ZULU PARTY...Then we can say the same of the ANC as being mostly XHOSA...or the DA as mostly White, Privilege Extremely WEALTHY even on Par with EUROPEAN 💶 countries and the USA and in some ASIAN TIGER Countries so rich are these Whites in South Africa 🇿🇦. He's just saying this because they knows and the DA knows, that the ANC is the only Party which are standing between those rich population and the EFF/MK PARTY because the ANC is actually protecting the INHERENT APARTHEID PROPERTY RIGHTS AND MASSIVE WEALTH and EXTREMELY OPULENCE LIFESTYLES which other parties like EFF and MK PARTY will not do as South Africa 🇿🇦 belongs to all exually who lives in it.
Im a Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) Graduate in FOODS SCIENCE & COSMETICS ANALYSIS as well as an ACCREDITED FOODS SAFETY SYSTEMS AUDITOR and CERTIFIED FOODS AUDITOR. So what does that makes me??? You must also Invite the MK PARTY Spokesperson to your channel so that we can have a balanced view and Analysis of the political dynamics in the country. Don't allow yourselves as online news and Podcast channels to behave like the MAINSTREAM Print and Electronic media which ran this NARRATIVE for years. It will not work with us anymore as yiu support those who is easy controllable like CYRIL RAMAPHOSA because he's also CAPTURED and can do nothing without the help of STELLENBOSCH-MAFIA and its easy to control him as they couldn't control ZUMA. President CYRIL RAMAPHOSA is a PROXY for both the WESTERN WORLD, and BUSINESSES

The analyst steers clear from the fact that voters showed disapproval of Ramaphosa's govt, he stresses the Zuma factor. If Ramaphosa was approved Zuma would not have a chance and the polls would have shown, the analyst views are biased; Zuma with all his faults has qualities that Ramaphosa does not have and will not have...people are not stupid as the analyst would like to subtly suggest they are, anyway its his views and thankfully some viewers of channels are discerning!
