Honestly speaking, as black people we must really start thinking economically if we want to uplift ourselves. When we get the land, we need to create jobs for the community in order to decrease unemployment. This thing of wanting to own land just because it was land of your forefathers and you're not making something out of it should stop because it is not taking us anywhere.

Nonsense. This is why SA blacks keep getting shafted by their historical enemies. POSSESSION is 90% of the law!! What you do with your possession is your own business. Why are these racists even allowed a say in the matter?? Zimbabweans may have suffered, but at least restored their dignity and the land reform is bearing fruits in a big way.

Didn't your kind legislate and pursue a policy of visiting indignities and misery upon the native population (and everywhere else your shadows darkened)? In you world, the African is fully content with a full belly and aspires to nothing else. Well now bear witness, after your evil, unilateral and illegal economic sanctions have been removed, Zimbabwe continues to be one of the fastest growing economies in the world. What with embarrassing amounts of Lithium, gold, platinum ( and Platinum Group Metals), diamonds kicking around on the surface, rare earth minerals, oil/natural gas.............and most of all, our fertile productive ancestral lands!!

The land was distributed to 300 000 Zimbabwean families. I can tell you we don't have such a bloated cabinet. You can read independent research on the land redistribution by Ian Scoones of the University of Sussex.

Why not give people bigger yards so that they can expand on those RDP miniscule plots if they are so keen on land redress? • @Augustus65
      @Augustus65 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

@dogsand77 The same can be said for African Empires attacking each other, committing genocide & ethnic cleansing and selling each other into slavery. The same can also be said for the millions who have died through warring Empires in Asia, the Middle East and the Americas all throughout history. That is the nature of Empires, as that is the human condition. Anywhere you have groups of humans with overlapping interests, you will find conflict. The difference though is that Communist Empires actively seek to commit genocide. Its a core policy of any communist govt. And its always against their own countrymen (those who don't agree with them).
Furthermore, the nature of Empire is to build, improve and expand (it would be too expensive to not do this as the troops, govt officials, supplies etc to the colony need to be paid for), that is why most Empires leave behind ready-made countries that only need a good govt to take over (which, in Africa, has never happened). Whereas Communist Empires, again as a policy and required by Marx, seek to destroy or confiscate everything and make the populace 100% enslaved to the govt.

In many cases people were forcefully moved from their land without any consideration. The land issue cannot be wished aways by just saying that people should farm where they are, even if that land is not suitable for that.

Instead, ask why does this government not do as the apartheid government did and send qualified extension officers from the dept of agriculture to train and advice the land beneficiaries???

Payment was 1/8 of real value, legal fees resulted in debt on our side. So walked away in debt. All these farms are non functional today.

Was is it Cameroon or Congo or Angola? Oh, it doesn´t matter, we just made it up to justify colonialism, even if the facts are contrary.
And by the way, Khoisan exist in different parts of Africa, esp. South and East (Tanzania), just like "Bantus" and yes, they are also intermixed with each other, whereby many Khoisans intergrated into the "Bantu" tribes/nations just like anywhere else in the world similarly.
While we are at it, what is your business in Africa? What ever we do with each other as africans good or bad, its´OUR business not yours Mlungu.
Or do Africans determine what Asians, Arabs, (native) Americans, Oborigines in AUS, Europeans do with their continent, land? The latter fought, steal, kill (still do see Ukraine/Russia, Balkan Wars of the nineties, Nothern Irland bombings, sessessions and detentions in Spain/Catalonya where Barcelona etc)?
It´s their continent, place, business. Period. Or should Chinese by the virtue of their growing strength take over Europe by force and say you Birith are Anglo-Saxonians from Saxony in Germany, and must leave England and Germans, you are Barbarians and must leave Germany towards Caucasia/Iran bc you are arians etc?
Europe for Europeans. Asia for Asians. Africa for AFrica. Simple.
And you come here, have the audacity to discuss on the matter of the southern tip of Africa.
If I were you, I´ll humble myself ASAP or pack and back to Europe (please not Australia, NZ, Canada, USA) to try to terrorise the natives there with the same white suprematist BS.
Update, Europeans don´t really embrace you either, even for them white South Africans are to crass, most have moved on (the Dutch King has apologized for colonialism and everything that happend under its reign when you guys (mostly poor Europeans) left for the colonies and fabricated superiority.
One more last thing, when southern Europe was colonised by the North Africans/Arabs aka Moors from 711 to 1492 the rest of Europe finally came together and fought back to take back their land from the Arab colonizers..
Europe never accepted, rightfully so, the Arabs on their land, no matter how long they ruled and what good things they brought in there (go to Andalucia, Spain and see the beautiful architecture, astronomy/math science brought by the Moors.
Europe wasn´t not impressed and eventually kicked them out. some Moors/Arabs stays under the rule of the Europeans as a minority up to this day, without political, commercial, or any power whatsoever.
They accepted their place and, as individuals, may do well or not, but they know they are Arabs not Europeans just like any communities who follow common sense.
Which leaves you with one option: humble yourself, you are at the end of the colonial road.
India, China/Asia, Middle Eeast, and Africa make 80 soon 90% of world population.
It should all be about humans and humanity, but you decided otherwise and we and the rest of the world are wising up accordingly.
I think we are done here. We should act like Britian and Europe today for those who do not want it otherwise.

The Ngonyama trust did not own the land in the days of Senzagkhona pre Shaka. Then Shaka killed his brother to be king and conquered the tribes in what later became known as Zululand and Natal. Last year Helen Zille said a mouthful about the fallow land in the EC specifically. Because most black people don’t read, they responded to her by saying she talk a lot of sense, therefore they agree with her. Reading An Economic History of SA would have empowered many with the right answers to debunk what Zille said. Or reading Why Africa is Poor would have done the same. When black farmers of the EC were buying farmland and producing real food they were stopped by both the colonist and apartheid to make room for white farmers who couldn’t farm to produce commodities and not food. Even John Steenhuizen said the same about white farmers not producing food but commodities. Hence food prices are skyrocketing. Today we hear about white farmers being hardworkers and good at what they are doing. We hardly ever here the same praise singers acknowledging the likes of Kas Maine who died poor in Bophuthatswana for being the good farmer he was and for teaching many white farmers in Western Transvaal what it means to farm a feed themselves when they knew nothing and the starved. But like I said, reading is not our strong point. Hence we will continue to believe unfounded and unsubstantiated nonsense from people who are determined to coat us with snake oil. It would be nice if this channel could afford me the opportunity to set the record straight about the EC. Ingonyama Trust is another interesting story that is often based on what is left UNSAID.

*Natives are under no obligation to be culturally static or labels in a book.*
"khoisan" is a 20th century sloppy ahistoric abstraction.
San refers to foragers or hunters or for ancestral pygmies millennia ago.
Khoi was a Euro broad generic reference to *Cape pastoralists.*
      A way of life reference.
The native South African has blended pygmy and proto-agrarians (proto-Bantu) millennia ago.
This blend is who Europeans found, so talking about migration hypotheses of the ancestors is of no relevance.
The pastoralists (khoi/khwe) they found in the Cape were a blend of pygmy & ancient proto-agrarian.
That's literally what a native South African is *today* with millennia of heritage.

The Whites instituted The Natives' Land Act of 1913, which "prohibited the establishment of new farming operations, sharecropping or cash rentals by blacks outside of the reserves. Now they are against land reform, claiming that black-owned land is unproductive. In 1947, the USA occupation government in Japan instituted land reform that transferred land from 8000 land owners to 3 million landless peasants; those peasants became the backbone of Japan's middle class. Land, like property, can be used as a source of capital.

The land issue is a legitimate historical cause of disempowerment and resentment. However, redistribution of agricultural land could not create wealth and jobs on any useful scale now.
Back when whites grabbed the land in past centuries , farming was the biggest part of the economy, here and everywhere. But times have changed.
Agriculture is no longer a significant share of the economy -- in SA in 2024, farming accounts for only 2.4% of GDP. Any benefits of land reform would pale in comparison with effective industrial policies, or reliable electricity, or small-business-friendly regulatory reform, or any number of other modern measures.

What is really factually wrong about what Helen is saying? I am not a DA supporter but as a concerned South African who desires progress by way of inclusive economic development and employment I find no grounds to disagree with her. Isn't time that the so called "black parties" copy these principles and approaches to advance our economic emancipation instead of pulling a race card at every convenient opportunity?
Our black parties are failing South Africans. I think our black political leaders are busy pushing the black electorate towards the DA by simply ignoring the basic approach to economics and rural development. The time is coming if it is not here already where the struggle pedigree, struggle songs, and slogans will mean nothing to people who are starving.
It is now clear that the ANC and all its children (parties coming from it) have no solution to the socio-economic problems this country faces. Our hope may as well lie with the new comers on the political landscape who have no dealings and influence of the players mentioned above.
To shoot down a workable strategic approach just because it is advanced by a white party is simply childish and disingenuous. The simple reason why the ANC is where it is today and will continue to go down is because it is a broad church with members of many different visions (communists, socialists, and nationalists). There is no way it will keep all the three constituencies happy. So, it is designed to fail and its final fall will be painful for most of us to watch.

There are 2 points that are always overlooked in the question of land:
    1) There was no South Africa when Europeans arrived, only small & scattered tribes that - while nomadic in lifestyle- remained confined to certain areas (Eg Khoi in the Cape, Xhosa in EC, Zulu in KZN etc) therefore a large part of the land wasn't actually owned by anyone to begin with, especially in the interior. The concept of land ownership and title deeds is a European concept. Obviously a lot of land was stolen by Europeans, but how will we prove what land was stolen?
    2) Land restitution means ALL victims of land theft need justice/restitution. Therefore, how will we determine which black tribe stole what land from another black tribe? And will we then confiscate that land from the black "colonizer" to restore it to the black "claimant" 300 years later?Example: The Zulus stole massive amounts of land from the Xhosas and other tribes.
It's easy to blame the "white man" for everything but if you really cared about justice and restitution you would want it to apply to everybody.
