    now this is the type of content i was looking for. people always tell beginners to watch a guide on how to play but never how to train, which is so much more important.

      Great stuff. Personally, on match-up knowledge, I look up whom is the top three most popular characters in the game ( as of Feb 19th, it seems to be Dragonov, Renia, and Victor) and find ways to counter their most used attacks.

    Imo the best way to learn matchups and specifically punishes is:
    1. Play ranked, get clapped by (character) a couple of times.
    2. Check replays and keep repeating trying to defend/punish moves/strings you're getting clapped by the most (The replay doesn't always give you the right punishes, and for me sometimes doesn't even give tips for punishable moves)
    3. Download ghosts of comparable rank of that character
    4. Rinse and repeat
    I'm last yellow rank rn and ive been getting clapped by Victor players spamming that 2 string, until i learned how to duck the pistol and WS launch punish by repeating it in replay. Now i've learned 1 essential tool to counter Victor, once i notice some other move/string in ranked i'll repeat the process.
    Most important tip of all is ofcourse, don't miss out on having fun in exchange for training/learning!
    >Play ranked
    >Have fun
    >Get clapped
    >Frustrated
    >Practice more
    >Win again with new tools you've learned
    >Feels satisying
    >Have fun again

      Btw i'm not trying to say your routine is bad and everyone should practice this, just trying to give my perspective on what has helped me learn the game as a total newcomer to T8 and fighting games in general. I will add your routine to this!
      I also think you having the experience you have in fighting games, moving over to Tekken and kind of documenting your process and journey is a really unique concept that hasn't been tapped into and can be EXTREMELY valuable for new players.
      Found this channel because of Loops btw, shout out to both of you, it's honestly criminal that you guys don't have a way larger subscriber base but that'll most definitely change soon :)

    U can kbd all day, but if u don’t know how to properly space out your moves, with your movement, then it’s basically useless. But I guess that comes with knowledge checks, like when to sidestep ect. Iv seen street fighter pros make that mistake all the time when they pick up tekken, oh I have to learn kbd.
    Tekken 8 normal back dash into step is good enough for any new player. Anyways sorry for my little rant, it’s just I made that mistake when I first learned tekken 7 way back.

      I didn't find any real difference but you know to each their own I suppose. None of the AI in this game is very difficult I sought out the top-ranked person and fought their ghosts and it was just a regular AI I tried the very hardest AI CPU and it was quite simple to beat arcade mode on the hardest difficulty is quite simple to be I don't think you're really going to get much out of any AI in this game more than just what is listed in this video using it to learn certain strings and so on.

    • @IceeSwirl
      @IceeSwirl 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah the Super Ghost Battles are way better than the regular AI. The devs didn't put much effort into regular AI because they were much more focused on Ghosts.
      Every ghost is different so you just gotta try different ones out and find the ones that help you improve the most.

    The movement and execution practice both are awesome.
    The matchups practice tho, i don't think it would help u that much due to the overloading knowledge. There are so many moves from a character, and there are plenty of ways to play a character. Instead i suggest u learn your punishment in 10f, 15f from standing position and while rising position. And every time u play, try to punish the enemy's attack/strings. U will figure it out yourself what kind of attack is punishable and what attack is safe. U will remember their attack, and the punishment to that specific attack.
    If you keep being beaten by specific strings, go to the replay, and mess around with it. Try ducking the high, try sidestep, side walks, etc. Try looking for your own evasive moves to counter that specific attack. And ofc take notes. You will learn a lot.
    Remember, u playing tekken. Don't overload your brain before your muscle memory. I did that and i hated myself when i saw myself couldn't execute the knowledge i put in my brain. It is way better when your muscle memory knows more than your brain

    • @EnjinFGC
      @EnjinFGC  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      After a few weeks I learned that matchups you only need to learn like 3-4 of their best moves to start so it makes it much more approachable

    • @davellii6309
      @davellii6309 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When i was learning a new character, it was extremely overloading trying to figure out what good moves were. I kept going into practice mode, through the entire movelist and see the properties and frames on hit and block to learn what's good. However doing that made me remember absolutely nothing, i believe it's better to break things up in small bits i.e. learn about 1 - 3 moves, know the frame date of those moves, focus on trying them in ranked a bunch of times to see effectiveness and application, repeat with other moves.
      I handle learning punishes and matchup/knowledge checks the same now

    This was a good video outlining a nice way to practice the game, but I have a suggestion for similar videos in the future; as much as I love this games OST (seriously it's banger after banger, I even listen to it at the gym), playing it in the background of a educational video that is just you talking is quite distracting. The Customization music would suit it better :)

    Why paris stage theme has magic of matching to any footage
    Btw 4:50 that's pretty "simple" to say that match up knowledge is not a mechanical skill
    I mean in fighting game every thing is a mechanical skill, its not that strict on a beginner level though but u still need to practice for example how to punish certain gimmicky moves, but ig on starting level even knowledge can decide who gonna win the match
    Just felt that i need to be "that guy"
    Another thing about character usage
    There is an official (or just very accurate data) on character usage on all ranks please look it up
    And at the moment of me writing this comment the most popular characters are reina/dragu/victor
    Tierlists(with all respect to tmm) mean different thing
    So id say that its more viable at the moment to study those 3 characters
    But i really like ur approach of learning tekken, i cant Play game actively rn because yk live and stuff, but id do absolutely the same thing, very exact training routine on each vital aspect of the game with maybe an addition of having a training partner so we could practice/share knowledge/and spare together
    Also one thing about shadowboxing thats a really good idea when u don't have a training partner but id suggest of playing with ur own ghost instead of easy cpu(but u can actually combine this two)
    Ghosts are just a good way to look at ur own gameplay and getting good in mirror matches
    Especially if u maining one of the popular characters (as i mentioned above reina/victor/dragu) so its both practicing and gaining more match knowledge
    I think personally tekken 8 in this regard did everything to make training as efficient as possible (at least rn) there are so many features that really help learn the game in ur own pace thats how make fighting games more accessible
    By making good training features

      @EnjinFGC  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hook fist is his strongest move but it has a complicated frame perfect imput so it’s important for me to practice. Shadowing is just me playing against the AI and imagining its a real battle in order to get comfortable moving around. And wavedash refers to the mishima characters crouch dash, for jin I believe its called breaking step in the move list. Wave dashing is just crouch dashing over and over, It can be useful on higher ranks so I wanna practice it now (also it looks cool)

When i KBD from neutral it's always perfect (◀️ ◀️↙️◀️ ◀️↙️⬅️ etc...) but when i do it immediately after dashing forward i start getting random down inputs when i know i'm not hitting down. @@EnjinFGCdont forget its also good to hit back after a sidewalk (double tap sidewalk), if the enemy is doing a long string, they will kind of shift back into the frame and possibly still hit you, i got this from a PhiDX video i think? Defo makes punishing a sidestep whiff harder though, but i guess its better to learn it the right way asap

    I understand where you're coming from with the setting realistic expectations in the amount of practice you're doing per day, especially practicing SO many different things, as long as you do it EVERY day that's the important part, more so than the length at once, etc etc. But still, 10-20mins of kbd thinking that's enough to actually hurt your arm? "Forcing" yourself to just practice 15 mins max against a character you want to learn against?? I feel like even for a 'healthy' mindset you're undercutting a bit here, almost to the point of sending the wrong message -- like sure, doing all this every day is fantastic practice, but it's really not gonna *hurt* to practcie more/longer, if you have the time, especially for the character matchups. I feel like there's a healthy balance between overly-obsessive 20-hours-a-day mad grinding and this ultra-conservative amount if you're really serious about something.

  • @StupidSexyCyborg
    @StupidSexyCyborg 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I would recommend replacing shadowboxing the AI, or any of the steps involving AI, with the Ghosts from Super Ghost Battle. They can be downloaded from the leaderboards, replays, or just the developer ones. In my experience the AI is better than 7 but can still be very stupid. Ghosts will at least follow a semblance of logic when it comes to knowledge of their own character (and possibly yours depending on how often they fight your character), as well as being the closest thing to a real match you can get without any stakes. Plus, you can download many different ghosts of players with the same character for variety and perspective on how differently the character can be used. It may also reinforce the character's strongest or most common moves among different players in your mind and teach you how to deal with them quicker.
