Being a fan of one version of the story before you have experienced the original version doesnt make you a fake fan, just a different version of a fan than one that had experienced it in a different order - theres enough room in the fandom for all
I think having watched the movies first is actually the perfect way round, as you learn more about the world that you've already invested in, rather than the other way around where you'll get frustrated that most of the content gets cut and the characters changed 😂
@DevilboyScooby I`m not sure I agree with you. I read the books before the movies came out, and even before all the books came out. My imagination was far more magical than the movies, and so I experienced the HP magic twice :) After watching the movies, I read the books again, and it was great to hear all the voices from the movies. But the visions I`ve created in my mind are still with me. I call that a win win win situation :)
This is why order of the pheonix has been my favourite read so far because so much of the story, emotion, character and themes were stripped. The movie failed to understand the source material although it made some excellent changes in various areas. I think because this book was so big it gave me the room to re write it into my own adaptation in my head as I read along which helped me feel so much more immersed especially only seeing the movies first so I got to blend them in together and really experience my original view of the series in a bigger way. I love how in this book you could also tell that JK started to feel inspired by the movie format in her writing by how she pieced together scenes within chapters which I think the movie version of OoTP completely overlooked and undervalued.
I read the books as they were being released originally and I fell in love with them! It’s so funny how we all have different favorites, because OOTP is actually one of my favorite books in the series.
one thing about reading the books before watching the movies is the Sirius and Lupin in my head are much younger and truer to the book descriptions. also, Harry in my mind is totally different than Daniel Radliffe. his unkempt, crazy hair and green eyes are burned into my mind's inner eye lol
I’m gonna start reading them for the first time too, recently found our families collection of the series (dating before some of the movies came out). Really worn out which I like. Always liked the movies and have read so many book series and it’s always been a guilty admission that I’ve never even read Harry Potter lol. Side note: also find it jarring hearing the American name for the first book (and movie). To me it’s always been philosopher’s so when I hear sorcerer’s it throws me off lol
I agree that "Order of the Phoenix" is a tedious read, "The Goblet of Fire" is really long and hard to read, but OOTP makes book four look like a child book in comparison, it's mentally heavy as well.
Great video. I'm impressed with the commitment with reading the books, i am a big HP fan and its taken me more than 3 years to finish the series and i am still only half way into the last book
0:56/5:40 your kids? I thought you were a teenager lol You kinda look like Grace Long now that I think about it Also, love the cat. Will you also be doing a LotR readthrough?
My adopted dad asked if I wanted to watch a Harry Potter movie but I said no not until I read the book I wouldn’t ever watch the movie before reading the books nobody should watch the Harry Potter movie’s before reading the Harry Potter books because the books have a lot of things that the movies didn’t have at all
I love the cat in the beginning ❤

I am so excited for the Harry Potter TV series that HBO MAX is doing, hopefully we will get more details that the movies missed.

Order of the phoenix has always been my favorite book ahahahaha
Yes, mine too. Harry's sarcasm and him being done and annoyed with all thats going on will always be so funny 😄
Mine too! I can't believe anyone thinking it boring
Love this! Im binging everyone’s readathons as I’m reading them myself too atm 😂
I agree with your take on the books. Half Blood Prince is my favorite of the series. Too bad it's also the worst of all the movie adaptations.
Goblet of fire is worse imo (and it’s my favorite book)
Great video. I'm impressed with the commitment with reading the books, i am a big HP fan and its taken me more than 3 years to finish the series and i am still only half way into the last book
