    my old z carbon filter i bought 22 years ago, the white screw on lid just blew when i was flushing it with the hose... sad times.
    is this the newest filter going?
    glad to see it all stainless.

    Just a helpful tip that isn't covered in this video. The long pipe has a mesh at one end, and there is nothing in the instructions nor marking on the pipe to to say at which end this should go. In fact it should end up at the bottom, just above the tap. The mesh stops the carbon from being flushed out of the long pipe when you open the tap.

      Excellent brother!
      The poor excuse for instructions aren't that helpful.
      The irony is, they emphasize to save the instructions for future reference when the only info documented revolves around the operating procedures not assembly.
      Thank you!

    This filter is out of stock, do you have an estimate time when it will be in stock please.

    Just a quick warning, make sure your door hinges are strong because 2 gallons of liquid, the hopper, wet carbon etc will put a huge strain on your hinges. My ex wrecked every door frame in the house by hanging coats and crap on the doors and slowly, oh so slowly, pulling the hinges away..

    How long can you use the 500grams of activated carbon or how many Lts of spirits can you put through prior to changing the carbon?

    • @Cornz38
      @Cornz38 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Should be good for 100l, then take out, rinse, place in a pressure cooker, cook for 2 hours, drain, dry in HOT oven. Leave to cool, good for another 100l.

      @@Cornz38 have you done this yourself mate?

    • @Cornz38
      @Cornz38 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MaaaatO Yes, It's how i reuse my carbon. Up until me moving house just before lockdown, i had been using the same carbon for about 4 years. It's the pressure cooker that forces the impurities out of the macro pores. Then a good hard 200c cook for an hour or until bone dry.

      @@Cornz38 What temp are you setting the pressure cooker at ?

    • @Cornz38
      @Cornz38 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@juniorblacksmith4931 I cant tell you what temperature but about 30% on my average cooker, the alcohol boils off at 78oC anyway. So i just let it "gently boil" for about 2 to 3 hours. You'll smell the alcohol in the steam at first.

    Can it be 90% proof spirit or does work better if it is diluted to 40-50%?

    • @StillSpirits89
      @StillSpirits89  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Tristan, it can be 90% ABV, however, you'll get a cleaner final product when diluted down to 40-50% ABV as the addition of water helps impurities dissolve and adhere to the carbon. Hope that helps!

    • @Martinwhynot
      @Martinwhynot 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd be inclined to filter at 50% as it would take a while to get 4L of water through it, plus the distillate, so that's a long time.
