This review almost put me off buying an 1199, 4 years later I'm still in love and haven't thought of replacing it except maybe for a v4. Some valid points tho
in fairness, yes, it didnt come out as a good everyday bike, but as something that makes you feel alive and special in the sunshine, its bang on. Which is what its designed for i suppose.
Ducati is the Ferrari of motorcycles. The way you described the 1199, you could describe a 458. They're not the best cars, but they are exciting. Same with the 1199.
Enjoyed your review. Entertaining. I use a Panigale for my daily commute. 99% of the time, wouldnt change it. Other bikes feel boring by comparison. However, when the traffic is so heavy and tight when you cant lane split, I long for my honda - the panigale is painful. When I go down to the garage in the morning and look at my honda with the panigale next to it, even after a year, I choose the panigale every time. The honda is clinically perfect. The Panigale is raw, but that is what puts a smile of my face every day.
yes, and the buyer already know it's a flawed machine but the emotional return outweigh the negatives so owners have to live with the compromise but still laughing like silly everytime they ride it.....
indeed. and harley is probably the best at that. they don't actually sell bikes at the dealer, they sell you 'the lifestyle', and the bike comes free. and people eat that shit up too.
i have a 1098s with full termis and ducati race ecu. just for the fun of it. also i have the all mighty super commuter er5 with an r1 as a daily or whatever ride. yes the ducs clutch is a pain yes the position is more awkawrd than anything else and the ohlins really needs a lot of tune to be called softer than wood. pegs are slippery and the person that made the position of em was drunk. mirrors are just a decorarion and rear brake non existant when you ride it after a long time. also the bike on stock gearing hates going anything less than 40km. yes sometimes she wont start for no reason and she will absolutely stall on a regular basis. but those bad points make absolutely or the sense of the world once you twist the throttle the pegs are low because they want you to be full tuct fully engage and one with the bike. The clutch becomes alive and gear changes smoother than anything else uve ever riden after 70km and all the weird flaws become a big plus under that tiny windshield . You cant commute on a duc but she is the best bike youll ever own. the superbikes series of ducati have a fucking soul. but if someones want a duc superbike for commuting . Why the hell not just change the stock gearing. or get a bloody 250 naked and stop crying
5:09 - how I imagine this looks from the other point of view: Stranded motorcyclist thinks: "This sucks, stranded on the motorway... oh look another motorcyclist, maybe he'll stop and help. ... "He's on a duc, maybe he'll have roadside assistance. ... Fucker just gave me a thumbs up as he rode away on his expensive bike! Prick."
11.05 sec. The only reason that people who have no clue bout bikes have heard of Ducati because they are one of if not the best builders of bikes since time began. And it pretty much is one of the best bike brands. I bet if you went round and asked riders, what the most iconic bikes made them fall in love with bikes in general a large group will say Ducati. People buy different bikes for different reasons may it be (price, looks, feel, features, type of riding too many to list), Ducati's are excellent they wouldn't be where they are today if they didn't make such good products. The thing with the throttle which he hates, is that the reason why its so responsive is that it how it should be, end of day your riding a superbike which is for racing and for racing you want instant power. If you don't like quickness go to a standard sport bike or go back to the lesser S1000. The BMW is how he put it so clinical is because its german and german products are that way, same with BMW cars, Porsche, Merc etc they are so perfect its boring. Where as Italian made things are meant to be dangerous, same with Lamborghini,Maserati, Ferrari, Ducati, Aprilla etc, there is a sense of when driving or riding something that yes its powerful and (words from Jeremy Clarkson) if you put a foot out of line, or make a mistake it will bite your head off. Italian = Consequences/Fun/Laid Back(Likes to have a laugh, German= Safe,Boring, Very Serious( Just like the german people). So in a shorter answer is if you want to be bored and show no emotion get a BMW, If you want to have fun and live life with adventure and emotion get a Ducati. A quote I live by with my car (just in process of finding new bike) is that if you don't turn round and stop, to look that the beauty when walking away from Car or Bike you have bought the wrong one. A quote everyone should live by.
Ducati's are built as luxury bikes and sold as luxury bikes. It's quite good to see an honest opinion but I can justify buying one just as much as I can justify buying an S1000RR or a cruiser of the same value. It's the passion of riding that does it for me.
Every panigale owner here is butthurt. The video discussed "is the bike good for commuting/everydayriding or not". Not about track riding or what. Im sure if he would to make a video about "is panigale 1199 good for track". He's view will change. So chill people. Some people just wants to know is it good for both track and commuting. Or maybe some people wants to buy a bike just to commute but wants an agressive looking bike like this panigale. Thats not a problem at all.
thebugs141 i have a 2012 1199 and i know it has its flaws, luckily I was able to buy my uncles for a steal. It's really uncomfortable for me especially how far back the foot controls are compared to other bikes, i also live in CT and the potholes and salt/sand from winter make me hesitant to ride alot
I find myself coming back to this video a lot just for the aesthetic points of the Ducati. The Ducati v BMW war is exactly like a Ferrari v Audi war, lets be honest the Italians have more passion and seem to give their machines more soul, but the germans will try to make the perfect car in every aspect, not just the looks and speed. Never ending war it seems.
+Marta 1st, ducati isn't known for it's long lasting life, the main point of ducati is getting to point A to B... while shitting your pants trying to. 2nd, bmws is known for it's long lasting life and all those digital jargons, just look at s1000rr and all those riding mode, they try to make the perfect bike while ducati try to make the fastest bike
You can thank japan for perfect bikes. Proven and tested to stand hard accelerations all day long for over 100k miles. As for how fast the RR is dont forget it was created in an era of major financial changes and restrictions over japanese and italian bikes oh and the philosophy of the RR is based on the k5 k6 gixxer If you are poor like me then you are gonna be happy with my k61000 80k miles have it for 9yrs. A purist riders machine without the fancy. As for ducati. Is like a sex instructor but with technical difficulties some days yet on the good days is a wet dream all sweaty and moist
I've just started riding an 1199 which is great if embarrassingly (but wonderfully) loud. I'm still running it in so no real idea of what it can do yet but I'm relieved to know that I'm not the only person to get frustrated by the indicator cancel/menu issue. I habitually mash the cancel button on every bike I ride so it's a hard habit to break. And it's quite a stretch for your thumb.... but it's essentially a race bike so I guess who cares! No complaints but I hear you! Keep up the good work.
I rather call myself a motorcycle enthusiast than a cafe builder because I'm building them for fun and for me only. The following story is describing quite well the Italians and their products. I was turning a 1979 Honda CB750kz into a cafe and I was looking for some very classy levers. Well, I've found them in Italy; polished brass, slick, elegant, retro, absolutely beautiful ...but pricy! I've paid 500 Euro for them and as soon they've arrived in my shop I took a look at them and I threw them in a drawer for later for when my cafe will be ready. When the time was right I took my beautiful and pricy levers out of their sealed plastic pack and exactly at that moment I've discovered that both my levers had some sort of a Harley ring mounting system instead of the European nipples for both cables (clutch and brake) at both ends, and no clutch or brake switch mounting holes... I was shocked! I called immediately the Italians and I told them that their levers are quite unpractical and that they lied about how their levers will fit my Honda perfectly with no necessary mods and their answer fell on me like a thunder: "Yes, signore, ma quelle leve sono belle, no?" (Yes mister, but those levers are beautiful, no?)... They were spot on right. Their levers were beautiful. And so is Panigale.
It does seem like a very attitude filled, temperamental bike but when you let it do what it wants to, say on a track or summer highway... just blows your mind. And not to mention that sound! Wow.. This is by no means an everyday bike but when you have it on the right day... Absolute perfection!
I have to disagree with this review, I have just bought this bike, and it is AWESOME! The bike has chracter and you feel like you are riding a real bike, the finish and look is unparalled. I have never found myself wanting less power in a bike, you don't need to use it but its great to have it there. It is like getting a 600cc bike in weight 164kg dry and frame and a 195hp 1000cc power, which is amazing. I think the Baron made a mistake getting the 899 as I bet he got use to the power quickly and wanted more, this bike you wont feel like you need more power as you have more than enough. Just ride it yourself and youll see that the minor negs are nothing compared to the sum of the parts and the joy you get.
As a Ducati owner, I agree with what he says in this video. My Hyperstrada has many of the same flaws... Sorry, characteristics. My RSV4 isn't S1000/CBR1000 smooth, but it's a much better in city bike than the 1199S I've ridden. The sad thing is, even a mapped 1199 with a full Termi system is shit to ride around town.
I have this bike for 2 years now, and still love it.. I am a bit smaller, and yes, I do not use it as a daily driver.. But you are right, she makes me feel like being alive.. But she is a little diva, that is for sure!!
how many ducati forum members will be along for another slagging match about someone not seeing through the usual rose tinted glasses.the slippy footpegs are as standard on all new dukes, had a few close calls myself with the feet coming off the pegs.havent rode the panigale but the 848 made for a better sound the town bike than the 1098.thinking maybe an 899 next...but I will have to learn not to click bomb the indicator which a lot of pani owners have said is a pain in the arse.keep up the good work sir.
My heart was beating fast as you were describing the urgency of the throttle while going through city traffic. Reminded me of my first few days with my first bike the CBR600rr. I had ridden only smaller (100 - 220 cc ~20 bhp) commuter bikes before. Nothing could prepare me for the sensory onslaught when I would just twist the throttle by nano degrees.
Loving the channel, genuinely funny stuff. My tuppence worth on this vlog, I commute on my 1198SP in SW London to Heathrow and it was easier on my previous 05 ZX10R, but not massively so (both are hilariously fast and ill suited to half the journey). I've mucked about with it a bit to help the town work, so it works with a less snappy on/off throttle at low revs(bit of ECU magic worked), dropped a tooth off of the front sprocket and have epically loud cans to warn drivers of my approach. The 1199 must have similar DNA, as slippy pegs and trapped fingers on full lock are fitted as standard on the 1198. The only other serious issue with commuting is the clutch, a dry slipper that is so crap(and maintenance intensive) it is laughable. Once it's rolling, things are good though! The best thing about it is the that, not unlike your experience with the 1199, is that it is not just a performance bike, but it gives a performance every time out. Makes a great noise and is pretty well put together, nothing falls off and with a bit FS365 and regular washing, it winters pretty well! Quickshifter is cool, traction control is helpful at times. ABS would have been good as well, cold, slippy roads and Supercorsas (Rosso corsas this winter) aren't the best mix. Got a quick action throttle for chrimbo and a set carbon fibre clip ons, so looking forward to wet and frozen fingers fitting them in time for the return to work. So you can everyday commute on one, just have to put up with the niggles. I have an older R1 as well, but it rarely gets used as the Ducati is just that bit more fun, whatever the ride.
I'm in total agreement with what your saying in this video.....before my S1000RR I had an 1198.... It always felt scary with little feedback! Get on the S1KRR and it makes you feel quick. That said the Ducati's are a thing of beauty and in the hands of troy Bayliss or foggy they are incredible. But for the average rider, the Beemer is more user friendly.....
I've always been told that owning a Ducati is an "experience" which seems to fit this review. I've always enjoyed looking at their bikes but living with the bike is certainly the most important question. Great video post!
***** yeah my boss has the 1199s :) its is to die for! the sound is like being at a moto gp race and he says you can't race it on the streets because the bike draws so much attention.
Sound great, The Vtwin sounds fantastic, currently saving for an 899/959 possibly one of these. The noise literally, makes my hair stand on end. And in reality the noise aroses me lol
ibsabur I think it just has to to with my size. I'm 6'8" and just feel a lot more comfortable on my S1k than the Panigale.. I do love everything about the Panigale though. It's an awesome machine!
Londoners are driving in a quite civilized manner and yet the on-board drive seemed quite daunting to me (haven't ridden a bike in years). I can't imagine what it must be like to commute on a bike through Rome, where every driver is a crazy person.
You could compare Ducati to lamborghini, They want it to feel like a savage beast, more fun to run. If they refined it too much it would be boring to ride. Just like people complain about lamborghini now a days they get too clinical, too driver friendly. I've got an 848 and yeah I agree it feels more dangerous than other new bikes but that's just how I like it:D
I was using a 22 year old Ducati Super Sport 900 as a daily bike last year. The difference is that I live in rural Lincolnshire, I very rarely need to felter, which is fantastic, and I dont live or work in an urban area. Just 20 miles in each direction of fantastic countryside. I'd love to have a go an a new Panigale, and compaire between new and old.
Haha! Love your commentary Von Grumble. I too, 'spam' my indicator button, so I'd definitely have the same frustrations. Also have the same tendency to ramble on to myself...! By the way, you sound a lot like David Williams of Little Britain fame ;) hehe!
When I see people say "this bike is best" or "that bike is a piece of shit" Yes there are some bikes that suck donkey balls, however I very much believe that there is no best bike by true definition. It's more the whole 'beauty in the eye of the beholder' bullshit, I have a cbf125, people say it is a pile of shit but I love it. It gets me around for now until i pass my numerous and tedious motorcycle tests and it gets me around well enough and with some perseverance it can go just about 80MPH so it's a fun little bike. I wouldn't trade it for a cbr 125 or a ktm 125. It is my bike. Ive made my little mods and it is like no other. No matter the bike (within reason) They are all good to the rider they suit.
i think its more of a 'ride by wire' issue tbh. All the different ECU modes and such just complicate it all. This is not an issue limited to Ducati, its pretty much across the bike world - heard the new Yamaha MT09 has the same issues after reading MCN...
second video of yours ive watched , both interesting ,,, but , its no good giving off at car drivers for pulling out when your closing the gaps at the speed of a missile , car drivers dont realize how fast bikes cover distance ,
+tom thompson Yeah, notice a lot of TH-cam bikers have quite an aggressive attitude to other road users. Not really doing themself or other riders any favours and just increasing the negative views toward riders. I ride fast when the times right and sensible when needed. And its why i am still in one piece.
Look at all the fangirls getting mad...seriously take the rose glasses off they are good track bikes but are crap for road use. Personally i have a gixxer 750 and an old RF 900 for winter use. Either of these makes for a better everyday bike in my opinion. Comfort power delivery and easy of use beats outright performance for a road machine.
Ok, updating this.... i now have a 97 CBR 900 RRV and it is by far the best road bike i have owned. sure the gixxer will be faster on the track but im 100% positive this lil beauty will be my daily driver from now on.
ratbike rider Im personally a Ducati Monster fan for everyday. I live in the San Fran, so city riding is very different. Its nice to have a bike I can ride up right instead of pulled over the tank like the 1199. Im currently riding the 2013 Monster 796 ABS Urban legend.
Yeah the monsters are good around town but they run out of steam to fast for my liking . i wanted something that works well on open roads aswell :) . For me these older fireblades are spot on
What riding mode were you in while filming this? If you were in race or even sport, that would explain the abrupt throttle response at low rpm. Also, in addressing whether or not the 1199 is usable as an every-day bike, it should be noted that not all people's daily commute entails city riding. Some people who have a mostly highway commute with light to moderate traffic might find the pani more palatable as a daily driver. I enjoyed the vid and look forward to others by you, but about all the information we can glean from this is that the 1199 is not a fun bike to ride through an urban area, which is not what it is designed for. Interesting review none the less. Ride safe!
I had a Ducati super sport 750. I could not stand the noise at the engine, it sounds like it's full of loose nuts and bolts clinging around. on the other end the exhaust was the most beautiful sound my ears have had the pleasure of hearing.
Just a quick question, are the majority of ducatis made shit? I have 2 friends with these and both their bikes have spent more time in the shop than on the road. I also noticed the bike starts like pos.
Never ridden the S1000. Been on quite a few other BMWs but I didn't like the experience at all as I am not in my 50s... Been on a lot of Ducatis. I did not like the 1199 as an every day bike. When I want to get a bit of training I go to the gym! The throttle issue though is just what you are used to? After a couple of months your brain understands the connection of the Ducati throttle to the rear tyre and you can go quite fast very safely. Prefer the v2 over any other engine.
BMW1000rr so ugly, just goes very fast with no soul, boring.... 1199 not the fastest but but the most exciting and the most beautiful bike ever made. End of.
I rode a Monster 1200S yesterday and I can agree with some of your points about Ducatis. If you are in sport mode and don't switch to urban when you get into a town then the throttle is way too twitchy, but then that's the whole point of having the Urban mode I suppose, even if it's a bit of a faff having to switch modes constantly. The Monster is the first high performance twin I've ridden and it took me a while to get used to the engine characteristics after riding a triple. I agree with you that they feel really muddy low in the revs and it's a bit of a chore riding them in town - it bloody motors on the open road though! The vibration and noise would probably become annoying over long distances too. Unless I had money to burn, I'd never buy a Ducati - based on my test ride. I use my bike practically every day, and it's most definitely not an everyday bike (in my opinion)
When you mentioned the throttle temper on this, don't forget it's a fuel injected V-Twin. Any V-twin feels more temperamental just because of the big bang firing order. A fuel injected four cylinder like your S1000RR will always have a smoother throttle progression. In my eyes you cannot objectively fault a V-twin bike for having an aggressive throttle. Thanks though, great review nevertheless!
look at all the fan boys getting butt hurt. Trying to defend a bike that is way too over priced and even on the track gets out performed by almost all the other liter bikes. Only thing this bike has going for it is looks. Which is why people buy it, for attention. Alright fan boys, go ahead, give it your best.
Rene Heins Ducatis are around on par with inline fours on the track. Pricey? Yes. Overpriced? Maybe. But then again, you do get a lot of high quality material to save weight. Whether or not 160kg vs 180kg is worth 10000€ is up to debate. And of course you are buying into one of the sexiest brands in the motorcycle world. They really are the ferraris of the motorcycle world. Because you just can't pick up chicks saying you ride a Honda or Suzuki. Edit: Just checked, the base models of Ducati and BMW are 3000€ apart and you save a whopping 15kg with the Panigale over the S1000RR. So just because you can spend 30000€+ on a Ducati does not mean you have to. Definitely not as overpriced as people make them out to be.
I know what you mean about the throttle! My Hypermotard 1100S is the same way, just likes to run wide open. It can be a handful in heavy stop and go traffic with a bike that doesn't like to run smooth below 40mph. Now that I've had it for almost a year, I have grown to love her. So much personality!
My 1999 Honda Blackbird has a very high torque low end and sensitive throttle. But I like it like that! And I am glad I got this bike, the one I wanted from the get go instead of buying selling and losing money while I trade up. By the way, I love how you tell the pedestrians to look out at 19:16 -- hilarious!
they do sound good even the 899 with stock exhausts sounds beastly! just the mic inside barons helmet doesn't do it justice. he talks about this in one of his 899 videos
Id agree with you on this. I come from a Triumph 675 and my friend got this model Ducati and after driving his Ducati Im happy when my 675 is back in my hands again. The feel in Ducati driving it feels for me not good at all I prefer the Triumph 675 anyday but Ducati looks in looks is 10/10 but driving feel 2/10 by me Thanks
I notice a lot of people complaining about the uncomfortable position on Panigale! If you are 186cm high you weigh 110kg and you are not able to support your own weight in your joints means that you are not yet properly built to ride a Ducati Panigale motorcycle, which is also called supersport. The weight of your body is distributed, however, in other areas not only in the hands. In other words, the motorcycle is built supersport and you are not! Like !
YET AGAIN ANOTHER VIDEO TRASHING THE 1199 AND PRAISING BMW'S APPLIANCE-LIKE S1000. I'VE RIDDEN BOTH EXTENSIVELY AND COULDN'T DISAGREE MORE. THE S1000 FEELS MORE SOUL-LESS AND UNINSPIRING THAN AN EMPTY BLENDER...OR LIKE THE ZX1000 DESIGN IT WAS PIRATED FROM. YES THE SEAT IT HOT AS HELL. YES YOU CAN HIT THE HIGH BEAM SWITCH EASILY. BUT THE DUCATI FUELING IS VERY EASY TO MODULATE, THE POWER DOESN'T COME-ON UNTIL 7K SO THERE'S PLENTY OF BUFFER FOR CRUISING, THE BRAKING IS A 100 TIMES MORE REFINED THAN THE S1000, AND THE ENGINE HAS SOME F#CKING CHARACTER. IT'S NOT A BLENDER CYCLE. IT'S A MOTOR CYCLE. ANECDOTAL NOTE: MY BUDDY WHO'S AN AVID BMW RIDER WENT WITH ME ON A TEST RIDE WITH A STREET TRIPLE AND AN S1000. I STARTED OUT ON THE BMW. WHEN WE REACHED THE HALFWAY POINT WE TRADED BIKES. HE RODE THE S1000 ABOUT A MILE AND PULLED-OVER. "THIS THING SUCKS. I'LL TAKE THE TRIPLE BACK."
TYPING IN CAPS DOESNT MAKE YOUR POINT ANY BETTER. And if you actually watch the entire video again with an open mind and no preconceptions of what you think i'l say, you will probably enjoy it more. I dare you, i double bloody dare you ;)
+Eggly Bagelface Is there much in it these days? Both super-reliable, both great all-rounders, similar features. Hard to see a clear distinction other than via brand loyalty...
You make me laugh so much. I live fairly local to some of the early footage and I thoroughly enjoyed this. Currently ride an 06 R6 and love her but have my eyes on the 899 Panigale. This was very useful information. Keep making videos. Subbed
Speaking of Ducati they answered my sign up for the V4 test ride. I cant wait. Baron a V4 around West Croydon way I think... that will be crap, hope they take it to a small test area maybe a small track.
All fair points. It IS hard work getting used to the throttle initially, but eventually your mind shuts off once you've exerted enough effort, and the bike becomes predictable lol. The bike gets very hot too. But man it just sounds so good and feels incredibly light and compact. It handles any corner with finesse. And the looks... My goodness. It's easily forgivable.
7 years ago but still thanks for the hints and tips. I would probably buy a BMW, but I hate the old design. The new 2020 (or 2021 i don't know) modell looks sick af. But it costs way more...
Just found this video, BaronVonGrumble is a non PC guy and I f@@king loved it. I have a 1199 Panigale S and the review is so accurate. It is beautiful but it overheats, hurts your wrists, doesn't like the town traffic but my god it goes and it's gorgeous! I wouldn't swap it for the world. (good job I have a commuter bike as well!)
I had a registered 2 stroke Aprilia for a while (with power valve). Talk about not an everyday bike. No one would insure me either. When I asked why they replied with "its a GP bike with headlights! we are not insuring you". Really fun bike though and the sound was amazing. Got that little RS125 up to 180kph on a downhill run one day.
My whole family rides Ducati, My first bike is a Monster 600 (classic model) My Father uses to say: "If you´re able to ride a Ducati, you can ride everything" So i will say it´s a Woman that needs a lot of love but once you give it to her she´ll be yours forever.
I thought it would be quite bad to ride, but my god that sound is so beautiful. I would buy a ducati just because of the sound and I'd just keep it in my garage and start it every other day.
Sounds lovely though. Totally impractical for myself. I own a Honda Deauville 650, which has a v-twin engine. It is really nice, even if it does only have a fraction of the Panigale power :)
I'm looking at moving further out, i.e. 1.5 hours out, and commuting on something like this "might" make it bearable. Re the vid - absolutely love the commentary!! You have verbalised so many thoughts I've had in the past...! I'm on a monster right now and that is a fun commute when you're out of peak time but if I was doing 1.5 hours every day then getting either a decent Ducati or BMW might be the ticket..
As expected, a bloody brilliant review. Cheers for that. I really appreciated the differentiation 'twixt a weekend ride and a commuter. It made for a very clear picture of what the 1199s has to offer (or not). Sorry to hear about your knob snapping off.
That bike only sounds nice when you get on the power on open roads, around town it sounded to me from my PC, like a 250cc scrambler or something similar, am sure it must have sounded better in person, it did look hard work getting smooth throttle control too around town, not good, but agree it does look sexy for sure. Cheers, Paul.
2 videos in 2 days from Baron Von Bloodcock? Man my week has been made haha, I think there are too many negatives for this bike although it looks amazing. Sounds like my old quad too which i just don't think it should.
This review almost put me off buying an 1199, 4 years later I'm still in love and haven't thought of replacing it except maybe for a v4. Some valid points tho
do you still own the 1199?
?
Getting one tomorrow. Super nervous 😬
@@Gx60067did u get it? I’m about to get one too

No video can't capture the raw sound of a Ducati none. In person it rumbles your heart. Fact!!!
Ducati is the Ferrari of motorcycles. The way you described the 1199, you could describe a 458. They're not the best cars, but they are exciting. Same with the 1199.
And ZX14 ?
Lamborghini*** ;)
Fuck Ducati... ferrari is ok :)
Davis A Santos kawasaki could be a GT-R
It's a Lambo love to look at it but hate to ride it
It's nice to know that I'm not the only rider who constantly opens my visor at lights.

You cant commute on a duc but she is the best bike youll ever own. the superbikes series of ducati have a fucking soul.
but if someones want a duc superbike for commuting . Why the hell not just change the stock gearing.
or get a bloody 250 naked and stop crying
5:09 - how I imagine this looks from the other point of view:
Stranded motorcyclist thinks: "This sucks, stranded on the motorway... oh look another motorcyclist, maybe he'll stop and help.
...
"He's on a duc, maybe he'll have roadside assistance.
...
Fucker just gave me a thumbs up as he rode away on his expensive bike! Prick."
Seriously consider buying this.
Thats not a problem at all.
thebugs141 yeah, we all know this isn't a commuter bike but to praise the s1000rr for the same reasons is pretty dumb.
+Florent N s1000rr is a good commuter bike, I use one everyday snow whatever. If I had a panigale id love it too much and never use it
thebugs141 i have a 2012 1199 and i know it has its flaws, luckily I was able to buy my uncles for a steal.
+Marta Labunska well funny you mention Audi, because Audi owns Ducati...
That's a bit obvious is it not? Ducati's seem to be annoying 99% of the time but that 1% is where the price tag is worth it
You can thank japan for perfect bikes.
Ferrari vs. Audi?
Audi?
Seriously...Audi?
And so is Panigale.
the reason your wrists hurt is because your riding position is bad, you have to lean back, and support your legs on the tank
***** i sure do, thanks for noticing.
+BaronVonGrumble You're a lanky fuck, that's why your wrists hurt.
+Pugzilla69 He prefers the term "slightly elongated".
+BaronVonGrumble hahahahahaha
if you put it in wet mode that supposed to make the throttle much easier to manage and reduces the urgency that you would want in sport/track mode.
It does seem like a very attitude filled, temperamental bike but when you let it do what it wants to, say on a track or summer highway... just blows your mind. And not to mention that sound! Wow.. This is by no means an everyday bike but when you have it on the right day... Absolute perfection!
If I pay 20k plus I'm gonna ride it everyday
Yea if I bought a ducati I would ride it to my male box in the morning haha
redneckon2wheels That's very graphic...
?
redneckon2wheels
"male box" Too much information...
:)
This is my poor attempt at humour.
I meant mail box haha I didn't notice I typed male box
Ahhhh a classic BVG video. As a 1299 S owner I occasionally come back to this.
you're 6 foot 4? ...
6foot4Grumble
I own a Panigale R and HP4 and I have an awesome comparison video coming soon. The Panigale R is just as fast as the HP4!!!
I agree with you 100% . Miss my S1000RR. I now ride a 1199S Panigale. 😢
I've always been told that owning a Ducati is an "experience" which seems to fit this review. I've always enjoyed looking at their bikes but living with the bike is certainly the most important question. Great video post!
I seriously don't like the exhaust note. :/
***** yeah my boss has the 1199s :) its is to die for! the sound is like being at a moto gp race and he says you can't race it on the streets because the bike draws so much attention.
They sound the same in person to me.
The HeartBrokenBiker - me too mate : 100% Agreed bro😎👌🏼
@@jmx46 They sound completely different in the flesh than from a recording.
Sound great, The Vtwin sounds fantastic, currently saving for an 899/959 possibly one of these. The noise literally, makes my hair stand on end. And in reality the noise aroses me lol
Test rode a Panigale 2 days ago and it made me appreciate my S1000RR that much more. They are stunningly beautiful though!
What didn't you like about the Panigale?
ibsabur I think it just has to to with my size. I'm 6'8" and just feel a lot more comfortable on my S1k than the Panigale.. I do love everything about the Panigale though. It's an awesome machine!
Request: A similar video on the 899!
I've got an 848 and yeah I agree it feels more dangerous than other new bikes but that's just how I like it:D
apparently its much better - just read Performance Bikes review of it and the issues of the 1199 are banished.
Nothing worse than snapping your knob off....
For me is nice bike but too expensive to look after, and I dont like the sound
This is not an issue limited to Ducati, its pretty much across the bike world - heard the new Yamaha MT09 has the same issues after reading MCN...
second video of yours ive watched , both interesting ,,, but , its no good giving off at car drivers for pulling out when your closing the gaps at the speed of a missile , car drivers dont realize how fast bikes cover distance ,
+tom thompson
Yeah, notice a lot of TH-cam bikers have quite an aggressive attitude to other road users.
Not really doing themself or other riders any favours and just increasing the negative views toward riders.
I ride fast when the times right and sensible when needed.
And its why i am still in one piece.
good to hear ,,, theres a time and place for speed.
Clutch control and practice is one way of resolving the snatchy throttle problem. Have a similar situation on my Superduke.
For me these older fireblades are spot on
Your use of expletives is excellent - subbed.
Why does it sound like a tractor?
Just on video not in real life
Dry clutch, clutch plate vibration, desmodromic valves. Engineering masterpiece.
Ride safe!
Dude I agree with EVERYTHING you said about the bike. Love to look at it / hate to ride it... 10% ride it and 90% look at it is about right!!
+Stilianos Vidalis vtwin is quite heavy though
Haha so much butthurt in the comments. Your vids are classic mate, never boring. So many moto vloggers talk so much shit. Peace.
+Rene Heins Can't argue with that, tbh. On paper there's nothing to sell it over other bikes. But goddamn, those looks.
+Rene Heins You can buy Mitchubishi EVO or Lamborghini - they bouth make same cornering speed... Just one thing Lambo has caracter evo doesn't,..
+Rene Heins The Ducati makes you feel special. Put a price on that.
hit the nail on the head.
Get a Multistrada. I ride every day.
+eagleeye929 That's why it's called Ducati bike with caracter
My 1999 Honda Blackbird has a very high torque low end and sensitive throttle. But I like it like that! And I am glad I got this bike, the one I wanted from the get go instead of buying selling and losing money while I trade up. By the way, I love how you tell the pedestrians to look out at 19:16 -- hilarious!
I love it....
This guy is entertaining, he is not bitching like the comments are saying, it's a review, and if there's negative points then you'll just express them
What the hell i thought ducati's sounded good?!?! This sounds like a sewing machine!! my firestorm sounds way better than this
they do sound good even the 899 with stock exhausts sounds beastly! just the mic inside barons helmet doesn't do it justice. he talks about this in one of his 899 videos
Robert Warner Hey says it in his 899 Collection video
Id agree with you on this. I come from a Triumph 675 and my friend got this model Ducati and after driving his Ducati Im happy when my 675 is back in my hands again. The feel in Ducati driving it feels for me not good at all I prefer the Triumph 675 anyday but Ducati looks in looks is 10/10 but driving feel 2/10 by me Thanks
I have a 1199 S being delivered next week. I’m part exchanging my 675 Daytona 🙈 I love my Daytona.
The Sound so anoying man -,-a verry verry anoying
I dare you, i double bloody dare you ;)
I couldn't agree with you more Mr. Fluffymellons! Please review my comparison video and let me know what you think.
straight to the point i like it aha
The Bmw was made 2 years earlier u idiot....
Well bugger! I am going to look at an 1199 this weekend. I'll look out for the snatchy throttle.
Or just torch the piece of shit BMW and buy a CBR1000RR.
Honda fanboy vs BMW fanboy, fite me m8.
+Eggly Bagelface Is there much in it these days? Both super-reliable, both great all-rounders, similar features. Hard to see a clear distinction other than via brand loyalty...
+Eggly Bagelface Baron has a CBR lol, he uses it as a track bike now
Brandon Scales Winner winner, chicken dinner. Eat my pantalones.
***** Lmao I couldn't predict the future ;D Think he's using the r1m for track tho and hp4 for road
Can't we all get along. We all band of superbike brothers. There is no fanboy in my book.
This test is actually better than any of the pro magazines have done. GREAT VID
The Panigale is the kind of bike where you can just look at it and forgive it for all of its shortcomings
That abrupt on/off throttle is something that I get on my Street Triple as well. my slack is adjusted properly and everyhing.
Great review sir, I'm hoping it sounds better in the flesh though, sounds more like a dopey old quad bike in the video!
7 years ago but still thanks for the hints and tips. I would probably buy a BMW, but I hate the old design. The new 2020 (or 2021 i don't know) modell looks sick af. But it costs way more...
That was the best Panigale review ever. I wish you could review a heck of a lot more bikes out there
Just found this video, BaronVonGrumble is a non PC guy and I f@@king loved it. I have a 1199 Panigale S and the review is so accurate. It is beautiful but it overheats, hurts your wrists, doesn't like the town traffic but my god it goes and it's gorgeous! I wouldn't swap it for the world. (good job I have a commuter bike as well!)
Michelin Pilot Road 3's - THE best tyre on the market by far
Love the honesty of the review when most other riders would just rejoice in the name. Ride Safe.
did you even watch past the first 6-10 seconds?
Sounds lovely though. Totally impractical for myself. I own a Honda Deauville 650, which has a v-twin engine. It is really nice, even if it does only have a fraction of the Panigale power :)
Nice to hear your thoughts on it Baron :) Maybe the new 899 will be a bit easier to live with!
Throttle spacers helped with the snatchy throttle around town.
Don't usually watch these but that was awesome, funny as F000K and very entertaining, keep up the good work
I'm looking at moving further out, i.e.
Boss, you made me start doing the constant indicator check. So easy to forget...
Sounds completely different in person, they always sound shit on camera.
Hey, I spam the indicator too, its kind of comforting :)
I'm really not a fan of bikes, yet can't stop watching these videos, ha. Keep up the good work, very entertaining
2 videos in 2 days from Baron Von Bloodcock? Man my week has been made haha, I think there are too many negatives for this bike although it looks amazing. Sounds like my old quad too which i just don't think it should.
Riding at 86 on a 70mph motorway! This is why I love his videos
Good review and hilarious commentary! Not to mention beautiful location!
Just test rode a 2014 BMW S1000rr and a 2013 1199s and bought the 1199s, I much prefer the Ducati and it feels a lot faster.
Good choice brah👍👍👍👍
it doesn't produce 195hp - a common comment on this video... thats going on the description too...
